I love anejo, so when I heard about abajo I was ecstatic. I think we missed the boat because the server said that abajo no longer has a separate drink menu. It basically serves exact same food /drinks as anejo. So you’re just sitting in the basement of anejo with same food. The space does look like a great intimate spot to host private parties. I love anejo, so I’m giving 4 stars(5 minus 1 for no special drinks/food unique to abajo)

Love it. They have fried guacamole, great choices of mezcals and good music. The vibe is really cool and you feel like you are hidden away under the streets of NYC where only the cool people can find you. The music on Friday night was on the money.

Low brow establishment in Tribeca. This is the bar below Anejo. On Saturday June 27th there was some party with lots of dudes with air jordons and attitudes. We showed up at around 10pm and this group still thought their party was going on but it had ended and the hostess upstairs was allowing people to go to the bar, this group took exception and was asking people to leave. What joke. Tiny room with no class all around. Avoid.

Big fan of anejo so I had to try abajo. These guys happened to nail the speak easy vibe without being douches in the process. Cool DJ, great drinks And food. The drinks are flavorful with fun names that fit their character. The Abajo burger is holy shit amazing(grass fed beef, jalapeño Tabasco mayo, bacon –tomatillo jam) $ 16 and totally worth it. Looking forward to many more visits especially before everybody learns of it.

What Abajo lacks in its cocktail offerings, it makes up exceedingly so in friendly and prompt service, a great DJ and a lack of attitude. For a town notorious for its door policies, Abajo has none. Located in the basement of Anejo, you enter the restaurant and enter just to the right through a staircase. Once down, there’s a snug box of interspersed tables and a DJ booth opposite the bar. Being a relatively new spot, there was just enough of a crowd — 3 separate birthday parties to be exact — and sufficient circulation that airflow was not an issue. The DJ played mostly top 40 from the last 2 decades, which were comprised of plenty crowdpleasers, as revelers sang along, danced, and got merry. The docking of 2 stars go to the surprisingly subpar cocktails — our party tried the Tranny, the Haas, the S6X Train, among others — in the end, we all had beers bc the drinks were not doing it and were $ 12-$ 15 a pop at that. That aside, we made friends with our server who indulged us with pictures and met us at a bar after Abajo closed. Overall, great place to dance and have a small group to celebrate. WILLBEBACK!!!

Awesome place. Staff is friendly but seems like they’re working out the kinks. Love El Tranny cocktail! Fried guacamole delish!
