Services could be better. The food was eatable. Next time I would spend more time looking around for something else

This place has been here forever, or at least since 2001, when I first started working in the area. Good, quality food at fair(for Manhattan) prices. I’m surprised it’s still here, since it’s located in a stand alone two story building in midtown Manhattan, a mere block from an entrance to Penn Station. Real estate prospectors, start your bidding…

I really like this place a lot. They are convienently quick, and their food is really good. The price point for Manhattan is definitely fair and the menu selection is quite large. Only issue I have with these guys is that some of the employees are not the friendliest people. There was one time I called in and the man who answered was quite rude and the women at the register can be kind of nasty. That said, most of the guys doing the food and taking the sandwich orders are really cool, funny and nice. Overall, Al’s deli is a really good spot for a quick bite to eat. 4⁄5 for the good tasting food, large menu selection and fast service.

Went here for breakfast — while very fast paced(as expected at an nyc deli on a Saturday morning), still a very friendly atmosphere. I enjoyed a very fresh tasting egg sandwich. Next time I’m looking forward to trying the daily specials. Definitely recommended for a quick affordable breakfast.

I was hungry for something hot and savory for breakfast on this chilly morning and saw this busy place and their daily specials. The previous reviewers are right, fast, friendly(in an efficient New York City sort of way, not like grandma) and lots of regular customers so they must be doing something right. And it is amazing how the guy taking the orders can juggle so many different orders and remember who ordered what. Mornings are like controlled chaos but this is exactly what I expected from a NY deli — except the prices — which were very reasonable! I can’t see how things can get any better given the speed, price and location; so five stars! I’ll definitely make Al’s part of my NYC routine!

I love this place. Every time I go into the city I stop here for lunch before heading up to the park. The grilled cheese and the tuna are my two favorites, and I’m a wicked picky eater! I always save half my sandwich and chips to finish later on in the day because they give such huge portions. My friend always gets a steak and cheese grinder, which he says is the best in the immediate area. The prices are great! I don’t know anywhere else you can get a sandwich, chips, and drink for under $ 10 that isn’t Subway! Would be 5 stars if the bathroom was cleaner!

This is a great deli. I come here every morning on the way into the office from Penn Station to get breakfast, and it’s always good. They are very friendly(they remember your name and what you order after you visit a few times), and are very, VERY fast. I have never seen a deli pump out food this quickly. The pricing is also great; you can get 2 eggs, meat(bacon, ham or sausage) on a roll for 2.95 + tax. For anywhere, that’s pretty cheap; for NYC, that’s absurdly cheap. Everything is fresh and cooked to order. Beware though, if you go between 9−10am or 12−1pm, be prepared for a LONG line; this place packs them in. Your food should still come out relatively fast though, but just be ready to wait 5 – 10 minutes

Great at what they do. Very friendly staff. I work in the area and take a trip almost every day to Al’s. To me, this is their winning trait: UNLIMITEDTOPPINGS on their salad station that is OPENUNTIL10 A late night salad bar in midtown is SO hard to find. As far as all the other food goes, they’ve always hit the nail on the head for me.

I get breakfast in less than 10 minutes at 8:50a when a million people are trying to do the same thing. I can’t complain. Also the staff is super friendly.

Nothing special. A good deli. Fresh salads. Wish they had grilled Brussels sprouts or something special to add to my salad.

I’m not sure why this place has such a low rating but I live this place. I’ve been eating here almost every day for the past month(I work in the area). Yes, the lines are intimidating but the service is very fast. Even the cashiers are fast and they will get an attitude if you can’t keep up or decide between iced or hot coffee within 2 seconds but it’s worth it. The food is delicious. Try the #3 for breakfast. For lunch try the burger(most popular) or the chicken cutlet(my favorite). People at my job seem to love the grilled cheese. Anyways the people that work here have a bad attitude early in the morning which is the only bad thing but toughen up. IT’S NEWYORK! the prices aren’t expensive like other restaurants and delis in the area, and the food is delicious. Enjoy.

It’s always between Al’s and Dali’s for me. Sometimes if I’m too lazy to walk across the street to Dali’s, I’ll come to Al’s. I have to admit, I ALWAYS come to Al’s for breakfast. My usual order is a sausage, egg and cheese on a roll. They make it quick and its super affordable, I believe its around $ 3.00 When you order sandwiches for lunch, PAYUPFRONT! They give you a free bag of Lays chips. I love the chicken fajita wrap! The salads are good here!(Cheaper than Dali’s and you get unlimited toppings) Sometimes when you go during the lunch rush hour, its a blood bath!!! But be patient! Don’t be a prestigious jerk who is complaining and yelling at the workers. Remember that they have tons of orders to fill. You can wait 5 minutes for your sandwich. The staff are always pleasant, which is a bonus! Oh yea! I tried their smoothie once… meh. I wouldn’t recommend those. Next time I should just take that walk to Penn Station to Jamba Juice.

The food is pretty bad tastes very stale. The service was also extremely slow despite having a bunch of staff that are standing around doing nothing.

This is the spot… It’s hectic, its crowded but the food is great and the prices are the best in the city. You can have a egg sandwich, coffee breakfast, have a grilled cheese with bacon, potato chips, pickle and soup for $ 10 bucks. The guys behind the counter are friendly. Hands down this is the spot if you work in the 34th street area.

I come here everyday but not for me, for someone else, full disclosure here. Als isn’t a place that you come across town for. I would imagine that everyone that comes here works no more than three blocks away. It’s a place of convenience. I cringe when I see people making specific requests of the guys behind the grill. This place runs like a machine and these guys thrive on efficiency. Don’t slow these guys down with your requests to get butter on both sides of your sandwich.

This place moves like a smooth running machine. I got my order of scrambled eggs, hash browns and bacon in less than 2 minutes. The cheery petite woman at the end of the store behind a satellite register is happy to get your coffee in licitly split with a huge smile and ring you up. For breakfast I highly recommend this place. Food was as good as it gets for breakfast food.

This is Al’s — it’s a deli across the street. What i REALLYREALLYREALLY like here are the burritos. They’re very genuine and IMHO(in my humble opinion) better than the other chain burrito places(not going to name names, but you know who i’m talking about). The burrito is filled quite well and they toss salsa and cheese on top and give you rice on the side as well. The Flavors work well with each other — but it’s also a Deli — they have a TON of food you’d find just about everywhere in NY — but they do it pretty good. Grilled Cheese with bacon and a pickle is always good — philly cheese steak isn’t bad and their salads are pretty enormous. Prices will range from 4 bucks to around 10 depending on how much you get. It’s not a bad deli. You can order practically whatever you want. It’s always busy too — so that should tell you it’s not a bad place! As far as i know it’s been here for years and seems like it’ll stay for a while. Go To Al’s!

Quick and affordable breakfast. Some seating is available. Things can get disorganized. It’s usually busy in the mornings. Employees are quick. Their bagels aren’t the best I have ever tasted but still quite good. They have a variety of breakfast sandwiches as well. The bread is fresh and soft. I appreciate that the eggs are fluffy and seasoned well. If you’re looking for a no frills breakfast joint that won’t hurt your wallet, Al’s is your place.
