The office does not answer their phone and it is not possible to leave a VM because all the mailboxes are full. Pretty incredible that they do not seem to want to talk to their patients.

This place deserves the bad reputation that it has on Unilocal.They charged me for an exam that was supposed to be covered by my insurance(and they charged me more than the exam actually was supposed to cost) and conveniently misplaced my reimbursement check each of the 5 times I tried to inquire about it, until they finally admitted that the office manager Brad never acknowledged my complaint. At this point, I’m going to dispute with my credit card company. I also have to pay for a new eye exam because they lost the vision test I needed to renew my drivers license. I already tried the Better Business Bureau but this is not even a BBB-accredited business. I’m researching the best way to notify the police and medical review boards of this fraud.

I’ve been buying and wearing glasses for more than 40 years, this is the single most unprofessional and difficult experience I’ve ever had. I ordered lenses on 12⁄18 they finally arrived on 1⁄6 only after I called and called to get information. Each time I was told that I’d be called back and of course this never happened. When I picked up my new glasses I could barely see! Upon inspection by one of the Doctors?(not questioning his name, wondering is he’s actually a Dr. of Optometry) I was told that the measurements were wrong and his condescending and demeaning attitude implied that this could some how be my fault? Like I changed the size of my head and my pupil distance to screw with him! Another nearly 2 weeks to get new lenses and of course several phone calls. Last straw I spoke to Brad, the manager and he did call back and told me that the glasses would be done the next day 1⁄13. He called the next day to say they were done and that he would personally take care of me. 43 minuets later I go there and of course Brad is no where to be found. I’m handed the glasses and they seem better but was expecting to be checked by a Doctor, but no. I asked the tech to adjust the frame because it was not fitting well and was a bit uncomfortable, she took them and returned 30 seconds later and said«here is case» I asked why she didn’t do what I had asked with regard to adjusting the frame and she said«what» This business is outdated, and it seems as if no one who works there is at all qualified to actually be there? I think my next move is to contact my credit card company and initiate a full refund and start over somewhere else.

They often overbook appointments, so I had to wait over an hour for my eye exam. The receptionists were utterly horrible! They were extremely rude and incompetent; they never apologized for their mistakes. They didn’t check my insurance coverage thorougly, so they asked me to pay much more than what my copay was. I had to ask them to double-check many issues. They even used the wrong name when they mailed me my prescription!!! As a final touch, their office looks just depressing. Stay away!

Stay clear of this place when it comes to Dr. Tisch. Not sure about the other doctors, but he is really arrogant, abrasive and have no bedside manner. My initial experience speaking with the Office Manager was great, but after waiting 50 mins to see him I was gravely disappointed. It was as if I intruded on his time. Didn’t really listen to anything I was saying because his textbook knowledge is all he wanted to insist on sharing with me and my condition. Maybe I was too articulate or I asked too many qualifying questions? Maybe my insistence on NOT wanting him to insist or recommending I wear glasses or me maybe having an issue with wearing glasses was no indication to him that this client isn’t comfortable with his verbal aggressive tone? After all, he is only an Optometrist and that is the way he makes a living. Waste of my time and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Could have goggled what to do.

I recently came here to get a basic contact fitting, since my previous script was out dated. If I would have read the Unilocal reviews before hand, I definitely would have gone somewhere else. Anyway, check in and my appointment were both prompt, however, I noticed a few things. First off, I saw the eye doctor put gum in his mouth and toss the wrapper at the trashcan in the exam room, not making it in. I then saw the wrapper on the floor when I went in for my exam. Additionally, he chewed obnoxiously loudly during my entire appointment which I thought was disgusting and very unprofessional. I also noticed that the eye doctor did not wash his hands before, during, or after my appointment. He even went from patient to patient putting in eye drops in the waiting room without washing his hands…

Update: turns out they also got my prescription wrong. The level of incompetence at this place is incredible. This is not an optometrist’s office. It’s a room with glasses in it and people pretending they work in an optometrist’s office.

I went back to this place close to 5 times in order to get the right prescription for my contact lenses. On my last visit, the doctor said that I would never be able to see perfectly with both eyes, one eye would always be off(blurry). Not acceptable!!!

The doctor was fine and seemed to know what he was doing. But that doesn’t help me much since nearly 3 weeks later I still don’t have the eyeglasses that I paid for. I was promised the glasses would be ready in 7 days. I never received a phone call telling me there was a delay. When I called the store myself I was told that the lenses were there. Just sitting there. No one bothered to put them in a frame. A ridiculously rude employee named Rene simply tossed out yet another date that he thought they might be ready. He didn’t offer me any explanation or even an apology for the delay. When I asked about this he acted like, «Yeah. So what?» It was so bad that I told him that I found his lack of customer service shocking. He still didn’t even try to clean it up and just offered his manager’s name. Maybe it was Rene’s last day. It should have been. It was definitely mine. I was planning on getting 2 more services here, including contacts. But I don’t enjoy being treated like my business isn’t wanted. This is NYC. There are plenty of other options. (After writing this review, I read through the other ones here. It is amazing how consistent all of the complaints are with one another.)

I had a great experience with Penn Optical group — I’ll admit, my appt was for 1230, and i wasn’t seen until 1, but you have to expect that from a doctors office, especially when you go at lunch time. The Dr was efficient and friendly, asked a lot more questions than i’ve ever been asked. He really seemed concerned with my concerns, when all previous eye Dr’s had written them off as un-helpable. I picked out frames while i was waiting for my exam, so once the exam was over, i just had to sign and i was out. Maybe 45 minutes start to finish! I got my glasses before the estimated 7 – 10 business days. I agree with some reviewers below that the office itself was a little dated, but we are going to see a DR, not going to see an interior decorator. I honestly don’t think that is worth mentioning in reviews… It wasn’t dirty or broken, just a few years old; it didnt take away from the vision/dry-eye help i was looking for. I have already highly recommended this spot to many of my coworkers, and would continue to do so.

I know I’m at fault, I should have checked their Unilocal rating before I came here. But under last minute circumstances needed to find an optometrist near my work place to use my benefits before end of the year. Came here for an eye exam on Dec 30th. The facilities itself were dated and dirty. The staff moves extremely slowly, if you’re looking for professional service I wouldn’t advise to come here. I thought I would get my contacts in 1 – 1.5 weeks as the staff advised, but I didn’t receive them for over 2.5 weeks so i was worried and gave them a call to follow up. STRIKEONE: Why would a customer have to follow up on a delay? Normal practice, being proactive and seeking out the customer to let them know there has been a delay due to such and such. NOPE, not here! You have to go out of your way to ask questions. So I wait another 2 weeks, still nothing, at this point I’m furious, and they probably figured it out offered a free box on the house as they are sorry something is wrong with their orders. When I got my order it was incomplete, they told me they’re sorry the person that placed your order must have placed it wrong. So here I am, almost 2 months later, still haven’t had my order completed. Moral of the story: DON“T COMEHERETERRIBLE, TERRIBLESERVICE!!! Would not wish this experience on any one else. If there were 0 stars as an option, they’d get it!

This place is horrible! Don’t go here!!! What a WASTE of time! Thankfully while waiting over an hour JUST for them to make a phone call to my insurance provider about billing(which all the info is on my insurance card) I decided they were not even close to competent and left. But while I was there, I was absolutely APPALLED by their lack of service, knowledge and attitude. The frames options are from the 90s too by the way. NO patients were there in the entire time I was-which made me question it too. The doctor office reeked of homeless BO and nacho cheese. I felt like throwing up the entire wait period.

Completely agree with the 1 stars below — I’ve never wished for a ZERO star option more. The staff is ruder and less helpful than ANY business I’ve encountered in New York City. Definitely an accomplishment in itself. Ordering contact lenses from them is a surreal experience — simple questions like«When will they arrive?» and«Has the doctor ordered them?» are met with apathy and confusion — I’ve often had to wait OVER A MONTHAND A HALF before my contacts arrive — I’ve learned from other places that it usually takes one week. I have had my glasses for 5 years and it wasn’t until this Tuesday that I realized I have been using zoom more and more on my computer. I mentioned to a co-worker that I need new glasses. She recommended Penn Optical. I went online at 10:30 pm and was able to make an 11:30 am appointment for the next day(Wednesday). I got to my appointment a few minutes early and presented them with a voucher that needed to be filled out for my union to reimburse me a portion of the cost of the glasses. I was seen promptly and then the assistant helped me pick my new glasses. We laughed over the ones that looked awful on me and she helped me narrow things down til I found the perfect pair. She then wrote me out an itemized bill for the voucher(something I hadn’t thought to ask for) and told me that my glasses would be ready in 7 to 10 business days. I received a call the NEXT day(Thursday) telling me that my glasses were ready! I picked them up today and I love them! Great service and as soon as I walked in, one of my co-workers complimented me on my glasses! :)

1 star is generous. I went to this place also because it was close to work… my first experience was not too pleasant. First, the people at the front desk were unprofessional, talking about their life dramas, etc. But the worst part about it was that I was there for OVER two hours when I had made an appointment(HI– lunch is only one hour long). Once they finally took me, my appointment was quick. Horrible scheduling on their part. Not for nothing, this place also looks like they just moved in. Fast forward a few months and they still looked like they just moved in. The place is unkept and dusty… but whatever, I could deal with that if the people were cool. I called over the phone to ask a question and they were nice enough. but when I got there and asked just a few simple questions, they were RUDE like I was inconveniencing them! And I know you guys probably work on commission, but if the person who I spoke to first(I guess who is now my salesperson) and he is busy… the other people sitting around can answer a simple question. I’d also like to add when I give you my price range(which was pretty high up there) don’t be a snot about that too. Guess what, you lost a sale and a customer. PEACE

I wish I could give negative stars. This place is THE absolute worst. Anyone writing otherwise must be family members of the staff. I only went here because this was the closest place to my work that took my insurance, and I can honestly say I would have been better off going elsewhere and paying full price. The staff is totally unprofessional. The exam for my contacts was mediocre. The facility is grimey and gross. The contacts that were ordered were of a wrong prescription(180 instead of 80!). It has now taken them over TWOMONTHS to get the right prescription. I used to call once a week to be on hold for an hour and then speak to the apathetic receptionist, who insisted they will call me when the prescription arrived. 2 months later, and still no call. I should have never ordered through them. Needless to say I would never return and I strongly advise you stay the hell away. Update: Finally received the remaining contacts, but they all came in individual yellow sample packs, not the full pack which they were supposed to reorder. Super shady.

WOW! I got my glasses next day! My appointment was on Monday at 12:30PM and there I was on Tuesday afternoon at 4:40PM receiving a phone call notifying me that my glasses were ready for pickup.
