Do not let the fact that this is inside of a Walmart deter you from going here! First time visiting this VooDoo BBQ location was today, and it was great. The manager and staff were extremely friendly. The food had good portions and it was delicious. I had a pulled pork sandwich on the white bun, and mac&cheese. This location has a lot more menu choices than the location on Loyola in Kenner. I will definitely be returning to this place!

This place is inside walmart. I was in a hurry to get back to Dallas so I took my chance. Brisket is a good as anything in Texas. Surprising. I think the owner works here which explains the great quality. In Walmart haha !

Being a Texas girl, I appreciate good BBQ out of the regular setting! This was my go to place in the NOLA area! The stuffed baked potato was my FAV!!! But get there early enough, because they go fast! Great sides and options! Eat up… no other local BBQ place compares!

I recently got some work at a warehouse about 3 mins away from the Wally Wally World this place is located in. A few of my coworkers told me to come try this place but I’ve resisted until just recently.(Mainly because of my disdain for Wal-Mart) But one day I found myself inside trying on some«boi shors». After waiting in the checkout line forever behind a lady using dat Weeziana purchase card, I was in danger of running late returning to work, so I decided to finally try VooDoo BBQ. The staff there was very nice and friendly when I walked in, and I was pleased to find the place clean and well kept, starkly contrasting to the Wally World atmosphere in which this island was located. After the girl gave me a number at the checkout line(I ordered a Smokey Burger and a drink) I sat down and waited patiently for the food. It wasn’t too quick coming out though, which was an annoyance since I didn’t have much time to eat. It was just me and one other guy waiting(who ordered after me, but somehow got his food first… I can’t figure that out). When she did call dat number and I got the burger and fries everything was good quality, although there wasn’t much of a smokey BBQ flavor to my patty. Still tasted good though. My personal amusement was their hot sauce… it tasted a little suspiciously like Weeziana Hot Sauce that you can buy when you making groceries. Not that its a bad thing, since I go through bottles of that sauce like water. Ooohhh baby it so fine. Ill go back several more times while I’m working around the corner for sure and try a few other things from their menu.

This is my first and only experience with Voo Doo BBQ. Sometimes my boyfriend will take me out on what he calls an exciting«date night» to Wal-Mart to stock up on essentials.(Nothing says«I love you» quite like a 36-roll pack of Charmin and buggy full of cleaning supplies.) We almost always go to the Wal-Mart in Harahan because, well, I really don’t know why just usually do. We recently went on a Saturday afternoon and decided to have some BBQ before venturing into the store. He works in Harahan, so he and his co-workers eat here from time to time. I was pretty skeptical. I don’t buy perishable food while shopping at Wal-Mart, so why would I eat in a restaurant inside of a Wal-Mart? I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. First was the staff. They were all so nice and so friendly. They really seemed to enjoy their job, which is a pretty sharp contrast to the employees of the Wal-Mart in which they’re located. I had a combo platter of brisket and pulled pork with mac and cheese and cole slaw. It was all really tasty. The brisket was pretty amazing and definitely the highlight. I tried all the different sauces and they were all okay, some better than others. However, none were really necessary because the meat stood on it’s own, which, to me, is the definitive sign of good BBQ. The sides were decent. Nothing special, but still good. Admittedly I’m a bit of a mac and cheese snob, so my standards are pretty high. The cole slaw was good, it just had more dressing than I care for. But, I’m kind of weird and like my slaw on the more dry side. Did I mention that the meal came with Texas toast? I saved it for last and savored every, last, buttery bite. We only go to Wal-Mart a few times a year because I prefer not to sell too much of my soul too often. But, next time we go, I plan to make sure the visit includes a trip back to Voo Doo. I guess I could even venture out and try one of their other locations, too.

So I have been on a quest for a «go-to-BBQ» place in a city that is not really known for being a hotbed of BBQ. Needless to say I keep searching and Voodoo is still my go-to place! This location is the Voodoo BBQ Express and it’s in the Wal-Mart at the foot of the Huey P. Long bridge in Harahan. This location is handy on my way home from work or if I’m out in Elmwood to grab something quick. The worse part of this place is getting in and out since it’s at a damn Wal-Mart. The food is always solid. I really like the BBQ Salad, I feel like I’m getting some salad in me and I usually go with the sliced brisket on top. It’s a huge salad, I have seen them put an entire head of romaine into that salad. I recently had the burgers twice, the first time it was outstanding, cooked to perfection with a nice soft bun. The second time the burger was overcooked and not nearly as exciting as the first time. I also love their overstuffed baked potatoes with your choice of meat on top of a loaded back potato. On my last trip I noticed the menu on the wall had changed. The manager told me that the prices went up and the portions got larger. I hadn’t really noticed and don’t really know how much the price increase was. Another thing about this location is there are usually only two employees that I see when I have been in there. Usually it looks like a manager type at the register taking the orders and a worker bee making the meals. The managers have always been super friendly and willing to make any substitutions and even offering them. I like Voodoo better than the other BBQ joints because it’s not as smokey as all the others. I don’t mind some smokey taste but I’d like to taste a little meat and not just smoke-smoke and more smoke. Also outstanding are the corn pudding, mac & cheese, potato salad and fries are pretty good. I’m not a fan of the baked beans there. Voodoo remains my personal«BBQ king of the hill» in a city where we really don’t have too many hills.
