The easy going staff here is what makes for a great experience. The food is always correct and hot. Our glasses also are never empty.

Best Nicoise salad I’ve ever had! Fast and friendly service. We were quickly seated in a lovely area in the back… an open converted garage setting with lively ambience and A/C! My friend who lives in NOLA will definitely return with other friends now that she’s discovered it!

BLUF:(Lunch/Dinner review) I hate to give it such a bad rating when we have heard such good things but we really did have bad food. Uninteresting menu and just not very good. Maybe we just ordered their worst(pizza and fish)? Try a sandwich. Being on Magazine and owned by Rum House(I think) we had high expectations. Walking in the place is awesome. Deceptively large with a cool atmosphere and art work. Nice staff. Interesting wine selection and the wine that I got was amazing(flavor of figs and black olives). The lunch/dinner menu was pretty weak in my opinion(hence my review). Nothing popped off the menu as particularly interesting. Lots to choose from just nothing special. I was torn between the Reuben(fav sandwich) or a pizza. I got a pizza(for a single person). I got the sausage and pepper pizza. It was not very good. It was burnt and the sausage/pepper/sauce combo just tasted way too sweet. It was not very good. I wish I had gotten the Reuben. My wife got the salmon with brussle sprouts and carrots. The salmon was«glazed» and covered with some type of purée or something. It was waaay to sweet. She had to scrape off the top of the fish to be able to eat it all. She left over half of the carrots and brussles too. She didnt like her meal at all. With an uninteresting menu and not being too happy with what we ordered we will likely not go back with so many other better places in this stretch of Magazine. In all fairness we thought this place was primarily for breakfast; however, I doubt we give it a shot.

Good food, great atmosphere, and wine that comes in kegs? Heck yes.

I’m a little late to the game on reviewing Red Dog, but I can assure you it was during its first few weeks after its opening I frequented the establishment. Product: A wide selection of different styles that could probably be best described as «American Fusion», I suppose. I’ve tried a few plates at this restaurant, and they were all good. Portions were on the heavy side, especially outside breakfest/brunch. 2 can easily share an entrée. 4 stars Service: Excellent, fast, and friendly. Full sit-down service. 4 stars Facilities: This building has been through a lot over the past 10 years. There was a child’s clothing store here, then a very-short-lived«froyo» place, but it’s been completely revamped for this restaurant. It’s a little tight inside, but there is seating both in front and behind the kitchen. Everything is nice, fresh, and new. There is a front and back bar as well. Parking is on Magazine(tolled) or in the neighborhood nearby. I suggest taxiing to the place if you can. 4 stars Overall: I’ve been a few times, I liked it a lot, and I would go again. I suggest others try the fare as well. You likely won’t be disappointed. 4 stars

I’ve been going to this place for the past 10 months. My experience has never been… bad, per se, but it’s always been like, «oh ok. I’m here». I have had their hash eggs benedict(AWESOME). I have had the beet pizza(NOTGOOD). I have had the crab dip(PRETTYDECENT). The arugula pizza is a shining star on their menu. Drink prices are pretty high. The reuben I ordered two weeks ago was completely different than the reuben I received two nights ago. I had to send it back. The waitress explained that they were now toasting the inside of the bread instead of the outside. That makes… no. damn. sense. Got the turkey club instead. Still just… meh. I can get a better sandwich at Subway for half of the price. So, yeah. The food here is so underwhelming. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone coming in from out of town for sure. The atmosphere is fun and lively, yet also sort of quiet, which is nice. The one thing that Red Dog does do, probably the best in the Irish Channel is their customer service. I have never, ever had a bad experience with any of the servers. They are quick, polite and usually down to have a fun conversation about whatever the hell you feel like talking about. This is not a review to say not to go there, by any means. Just a review to say, don’t go there if you want really good food.

Absolutely delicious. Been there twice already for breakfast. Definitely need to go back for dinner. Breakfast is sooooo good! And I really like the staff. Such a cute place! Went there for dinner tonight and it did not disappoint! I got the herb crusted lamb chops!!! Soooooooooo good! With Brussels sprouts and carrots! They give you quite a large portion, too which goes well with the price. Everyone got different stuff so I got to try the chicken, salmon, drum and prime rib sandwich. Everything was delicious. Then we tried every dessert on the menu because it was my moms birthday. The banana cream pie was by far my favorite, even though I could have eaten all the desserts by myself. Olivia, our waitress, is amazing and adorable! Ask for her if you go!

Had a really good brunch at the Red Dog Diner. It is in the Garden District on Magazine street. It was Sunday but we were able to get seated immediately. Ordered the Crab Benedict Sardou it was very good. Plenty of crab and hollandaise was done properly. Eggs poached correctly. Another guest in our party had the Tasso Shrimp and Grits which he said was excellent. The bloody mary ordered by another in the party was tasty with good spice. Also ordered was the sausage and gravy biscuit with egg. This was something I had not seen before but was very good based on my tasting and the guest in our party that ordered it. The ambiance was very pleasant and the service friendly and on point. I would definitely recommend Red Dog for brunch.

My friend is stuck in that loop where he wants to try something new, but he loves the Seared Salmon Sliders so much that he is unable to order anything else. I sampled from his plate, I totally get it. Not generally a cold sandwich fan, I took a risk by ordering the Roasted Turkey Sandwich. It tasted like Thanksgiving between sliced bread and the crispy fries that accompanied this holiday-in-my-mouth were so yummy. If the restaurant fare is described as «fine comfort food» and one bite transports me to, arguably, the best time of the year(because food) then I say«Keep doing what you’re doing, Red Dog!» I later learned that Red Dog Diner is owned by the same people who brought us The Rum House. Like Rum House there are delicious drinks and large portions. Try the orange dreamsicle frozen drink. Not sure if that’s what it’s called, but that’s what it tastes like. The bartender in the back is excellent. He had great stories, great recommendations and was very attentive.

My friends and I went to Red Dog for happy hour and had a great time. They have a full bar and large drink menu– wine, cocktails, draft beer. The cocktails were pretty strong… no complaints here! Happy hour is M-F 3 – 6:30PM. $ 5 wine, mimosas, and specialty cocktails and $ 2 off draft beer. I wish there were food specials! My friend and I split the strip steak and Unilocal convinced me to get the mac and cheese. The endless photos of mac and cheese got me! Who am I kidding, I’m a sucker for carbs! The steak was really good! It was a weird thing to get at a restaurant that regards themselves as a «diner», but it exceeded expectations. It came medium rare, just the way we ordered. The side of mashed potatoes was a great addition. The portions are on the larger side and it was the perfect amount of food for us. Delicious delicious! I can’t wait to go back! It’s going to be hard for me to take the risk and get something other than the steak, but my friends raved about the sausage bolognese and prime rib sandwich!

Envy will get you nowhere… maybe not but I still have envy of this place not existing in Milwaukee! Thank goodness we talked with a shop owner and pointed us away from another place and told us about Red Dog Diner. Any place with a hilarious drink menu gets super points in my book. We didn’t cocktail but next time I visit I will definitely go above caffeine to their boozy treats. The entire place is so quaint I could almost vomit but in a good way :) It has a very rustic chic about it and really makes you feel at home. The service was on point and I watched as a server tried to stop someone(not even a patron) from parking on the street without plugging the meter. A few minutes later the poor person was getting a ticket… always listen to your server! We started with the crab bacon dip which was heavenly. It was very rich but not overpowering. It came with just the right amount of grilled toast points. Everyone else had other entrees including our incredible eggs sardou. The hollandaise was done to perfection along with the eggs. We liked it so much we told our friends who were just emerging from their boozy coma to go there. They too were impressed with the food quality, ambience and service.

I went here today with a friend for lunch. We started off with the berry tea. So refreshing and good. I got the prime rib sandwich was amazing. My friend got the ratatouille and she raved about it. The only negative is the service could have been a little faster especially since we were on our work lunch hour. Looking forward to going back to try their salads.

Stopped here to try the breakfast menu because we had heard so much about it. We were very pleased to learn it was not over hyped. Holly was our server and she was just the best! She went above and beyond to make our meal perfect. Straight away she established the tone for what would become a very memorable experience. The Red Dog Diner itself has a one of kind set up. It’s décor is unique and homely. As we began to order we were happy to find that Red Dog Diner offers an assortment of beverages, even those containing alcohol, all day long. All of the ones we tried were delicious. When we finally settled on what to order for our meals we did not know what to expect as far as meal size. Let me tell you. The meal portions are large. Huge even. You will not leave hungry! This was definitely the best breakfast I’ve had in a while and I hate breakfast.

This is a cute little spot that opened on magazine since I moved from Nola 2 years ago. I love the wooden décor throughout. There are a few outdoor booths to sit and people watch. The service is not overly friendly but good enough. Cozy inside. The menu looks good. My sister and I both had the vegetarian chili. It was very rich; almost like eating pasta sauce for soup. But not too bad. Just different. It comes with 2 corn muffins that didn’t have much taste. Caesar salad was decent. Average and comes with a bread stick that neither of us tried. They have wine on tap here which I love. The white was pretty good. I will be back to try more on the menu.

Stopped in here the Red Dog Diner on a whim walking down Magazine St. and boy oh boy am I glad that I did. There was so many things on the menu I saw that I wanted and I’ll have to back and try more. Ended up starting out with the smoky mac and cheese which was pretty good. There could have been a bit more cheese for me but the flavor was good. It had a deep homey flavor; not too smokey but just enough to make it stand out from other mac and cheeses that I have had. I had the Chicken & Gravy sandwich and damn it was good! It was like the best slow cooked southern chicken and gravy put on a sandwich. The bread that it was served on was very good for it. It had a nice crunch on the outside and the inside was good and soft to soak up all of that amazing gravy. I really like the ambience of the diner. It’s kinda old barn style, which is right up my ally. No white table cloths and no fancy dinner where here.

Awesome little place! We went today for brunch and enjoyed every bit of it. I had a Bloody Mary, which was awesome, along with the blueberry pancakes– absolutely delicious! Three thin pancakes come in an order. You can choose blueberry or maple syrup. They were nice and crispy on the outside and fluffy in the inside. My husband had the corn beef hash, and it was also delicious. We can’t wait to return because there are many interesting menu items that we want to try. Even though it was very crowded, the food still came out quickly. Our server was very attentive and friendly.

Whoa. I stopped in here on Mardi Gras and BINGO! we have a winner. For starters, I was so delighted that this place decided to stay open for Mardi Gras. We stopped in for a very late lunch(after 3) and the place was packed, Lucky for us, there was an empty spot so we were immediately seated. We were STARVING, so we knew that we were going to order a few things. We started with the crawfish and tasso cheesecake and the duck waffles. Oh yeah. The cheesecake came with some bread rounds on the side, so that you could spread it and WOW was it good. There was a nice size serving and it was buttery and rich and full of flavor. The duck waffles were amazing. Delicious flaked duck came topped on thick waffles which were then topped with syrup. It was a like a delightful breakfast treat in the afternoon. For my entrée I got the chicken salad sandwich with a side of smoky mac and cheese. I thought I was just going to get a run of the mill chicken salad sandwich, but I was totally wrong. What I got was a PILE of chicken salad on delicious bread. The chicken salad was nice and cold and I just loved it. It came with a little fruit salad on the side as well as some thinly cut pomme frites. The mac and cheese was on point! After a less than stellar mac and cheese experience at McClure’s, I was craving some good mac and cheese and Red Dog delivered! It had a ton of flavor and a ton of cheese. I was a happy camper. My date got the lamb and brussels sprouts. He was kind enough to let me grab a bite and that dish was delicious as well. He was so excited that I suggested this place and I was so excited that I found this spot on Unilocal. I will absolutely return to Red Dog Diner: the restaurant that is so much more than a diner.

If this place could get 4.5 stars it would. I’ve never been here and sat outside, but was in a weird spot so it took them a second to see me. They proceeded to totally rock. My waitress was not only a total sweetheart but super fast and helped me get several beverages to cure my hangover. Their mimosas, while a tough drink to mess up– are so delicious. I don’t know if it’s the champagne they use or what. They have stevia at the table, which I always forget to bring with me– a natural sugar substitute and scored points for me. I read in previous reviews that the salads were small, but I ordered the farmhouse(with extra beets) and it was awesome-sized. I do wish the beets were larger and not slivers, but I am a beat addict so there’s that. It’s a little hipstery/gimmicky, but the food is obviously awesome and fresh and delicious. You can sit outside with your dog. No brainer.

I had a great Sunday lunch last weekend! The space is small, so be mindful of peak times and waits if you’re in any kind of hurry. On the brighter side, the great Magazine St. location means if you do need to wait, you can check out some local shops and kill some time. My party of two was able to sit right away at the counter, which I highly recommend. We had a blast watching the food come up from the kitchen to the prep area. I had an omelet(in case you’re wondering what a Humpty Dumpty is, it’s an omelet), which was great, but after watching some really beautiful sandwiches come up, I think I’ll give that a try next time.

PATTYMELT&TAPWATER: $ 17.50 after tax and a 20% tip. Ouch, these are not diner prices! While many local elites begrudge nearby Martin’s as over priced, with most sandwiches averaging $ 11 or less**, at Red Dog the median is about $ 13. Moreover, at Red Dog with tip you are out another $ 3. At Martin’s it’s counter service and tipping isn’t allowed. Further, a similar meal at propinquant Please-U would be about $ 12 after tax and tip**. DISINTERESTEDSERVICE I prefer to sit at the bar to get the local gossip. Bar tenders are usually chatty and often the owner hovers nearby. Not so Red Dog. A softball comment regarding the recent Les Miles/Joe Alleva controversy fell on flaccid ears. Ears that were more willing to chat with 3 or 4 other dallying servers while my water glass sat empty. I SAYTEAROUTTHEWALLANDEXPANDRUMHOUSE It’s owned by the same people but has a more competitively viable concept. **pricing based on 12⁄2015 published menus
