Well, the good news is, the food here is amazing. The burger was a perfect medium, juicy, and thoroughly delicious. The fries were so good that I had eaten ¾ of them before I even realized there was ketchup on the table. And the milkshakes are great — the strawberry shortcake milkshake even had pieces of shortcake in it! The bad news is, we went on the last weekend they were open before they close for the summer. So now that we’ve found this great place, we can’t go again until the fall! Bummer!

Awesome burgers. They’re huge and juicy.(And no, that’s not what she said.) Their fries are pretty good, too, but nothing to write home about. They have home-made ketchup that’s a little bit spicy, the perfect kick. Make sure you don’t eat lunch before you get there because it will fill you up fast. Everyone talks about their milkshakes. Unless you LOVE chocolate, don’t go for the chocolate shake because it’s HEAVY on the chocolate. I’m talking real heavy. The vanilla shake, however, is super awesome and delicious. I think if they mixed half the vanilla with half chocolate, it would make the perfect chocolate shake. If you do like I say and don’t eat lunch before hand, make sure you get there about 10 minutes til 5pm so you can be in the front of the line and you won’t have to wait outside in the heat!

To be honest, I’ve had better burgers elsewhere, including in my own kitchen, and while I like MVB, there are some issues(undoubtedly stemming from the fact that being open one day a week doesn’t give you a lot of time to work on things) that have consistently left me a bit disappointed. The burgers and cheeseburgers are made from top-quality meat, are well-priced, and are always cooked medium-rare to medium, even if you try to order further up the scale. I know MVB is working on this and will soon get it right. The specialty burgers are quite a bit more expensive and generally suffer from the same problem of being undercooked. I should clarify that I love a good medium-well burger with a good crust/a bit of char, and these burgers are extremely super-juicy and even a bit crumbly as a result. It may be your thing more than it is mine, so don’t let that prevent you from trying one. The fries are horribly inconsistent, but when served hot and crispy, are excellent. You may have to ask for a new batch of fries, which the wait staff will be happy to bring you. Of course, soggy fries probably shouldn’t be served, but I appreciate the willingness to make things right. I’ve had many of the shakes and am crazy about the wonderful flavors they offer, but am a little sad that they come out more on the melty side of things. I’d recommend giving MVB a couple tries so that you can experience the best of each aspect of the restaurant, as well as to try the different burger and shake specials offered each week. Bring cash(and double-check your bill; it gets crazy busy in there sometimes and mistakes do happen) and get there early to be seated in a reasonable amount of time.

I have to say that I love the pop-up restaurant concept. I got there after they had opened at about 5:15 and there was already a line so I had to wait about 15 – 20 minutes to get in. I had both the special burger of the week and a cheeseburger both cooked medium. The special this week was the Caprese Burger with slow roasted tomatoes, burrata, and arugula pesto and it was quite simply the BEST burger I’ve had in New Orleans. The regular cheese burger was also pretty good, but I think I made the mistake of eating the Caprese burger first so really it didn’t compare. I have to agree with some of the other reviews here that said the fries are so-so. Unfortunately I didn’t try one of the shakes since I thought 2 burgers and fries was already pushing it. But I think I’m gonna hit MVB up next week and save some room for a shake. Notes: CASH only and BYOB!

I was browsing on the internet, looking for a great burger in New Orleans. I recently found this pop up restaurant on Unilocal that supposedly serves really good burgers and only opens on Sunday evenings. I figured they must be good so I wanted to give it a try. I ordered a special burger with their special larkin’s sauce, chili, cheese, pickles and fried onion rings on top. I was a little disappointed with the French fries. They came out a bit soggy and bland. So I was hoping the burgers were going to be better. First bite into the burger: I couldn’t taste the special larkin’s sauce(a mixture of mayo and their special mustard if I remember correctly) because it was also a bit bland. The fried onion rings were good, but not together on the burger. They would have been better on the side. The chili barely had any flavor. So I didn’t get a good feel for the burger. The meat from the burger was cooked just the way I liked it though(medium), and it was very juicy. The ratio of the meat, onion rings and chili did not compliment the beef patty. Maybe I should have ordered a regular burger. I think a chili burger would be better if you don’t have all of the same toppings you would put on a regular burger. Perhaps some carmelized onions would have been good. I would definitely want to try their special fois gras burger whenever they do serve it, though. Other than that I don’t know if I would come back. So I’m giving this burger joint 3 Stars.

I’ve been again since my first review. Some updates: We went after 6PM this time and still waited about 20 minutes. I’m not sure what the ideal time to go is, but we did see people turned away after we were seated, and they were out of the B.o.B. burger and the special shake(Our waiter said, «Sorry, I guess we’re not special anymore.» Ha.). Luckily I didn’t want those options anyway. I ordered my burger WELLDONE this time, and it was still pink inside, but it stayed in one piece, so that was preferable. Next time I will ask to hold the Larkin sauce. not sure I like that. Still love that shake and those fries. Next time I’ll accompany the boy and just order those, hold the burger.

As awesome as everyone says it is. Very affordable too. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was their homemade ketchup — but I asked for a side of the special sauce they use on the burgers(it’s mayo-based) and that went perfectly with the fries. Even if you aren’t into Twitter, follow their page to see what this week’s specials are. Also if you don’t want to wait in line ahead of time, they will usually tweet a few times during the evening to let the stragglers know that there are still burgers and no line.

MVB is exactly what the doctor ordered for your Sunday evening, if of course your doctor condones the excessive eating of delicious greasy burgers and fries and gelato milkshakes. And who in their right mind wouldn’t want such a meal, especially if their burger has a fried egg on it with hollandaise sauce(the Burger Benedict: special for January 23, 2011). Operating out of Slim Goodie’s during the off hours, MVB makes it’s appearance on Sundays at 5PM as one of New Orleans’ most successful pop-up restaurants. People line up outside(rain or shine) in order to get their hands on these burgers, so you know they’re good. Every week, there is a different special burger for you to sink your teeth in. Each one could be considered gourmet from the ingredients used. They’re made to order, but make sure you get there early, or they’ll run out! The coolest part about this(in my opinion)? They run all their advertising through Twitter(@MVBurger). I nearly start drooling every time I read their tweet for the next special burger and milkshake of the week. MVB is definitely my Most Valuable Burger to start my week.

It seems like there is a huge debate in NOLA about who has the best burgers. Sorry to all the other burger joints in town, MVB has blown you out of the water! My girlfriend and I went to MVB last night and stood in line before they opened to get our paws on some of their delicious grub! We were sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen and those cooks have making burgers down to an art form. We both ordered a cheese burger and fries and split a milk shake. This is what I thought about our meal: Cheese Burger — Made from a combination of beef and brisket and some salt and pepper for seasoning. That it! The quality of the burger alone is amazing. Top it with one of my favorite cheeses… gruyère and I am sold! This quite possibly was the best burger I have ever eaten! French Fries — Hand cut, hot, and crispy! With a side what I would call homemade apple ketchup. Milk Shake — Salted Carmel… need I say more? Okay, I’ll say more. They get the ingredients from Sucre! Whoa! Taste bud over load! I think you get the point that this place is killer! If you are a local you should be there next Sunday at 4:30 to wait in line. You will not be disappointed! If you are, check to make sure you still have taste buds. Oh and its BYOB!

Tonight’s burger was THESHIT! OMG, the spiciness of the traditional New Orleans hot sausage mixed with the delicious beef made for a true party in my mouth. I immediately said, out loud, «Holy Shit, that is f’n awesome!», to which one of the cooks laughed, then thanked me. My brother and I decided to split the burger yesterday, since we assumed that it would be a burger with a hot sausage patty on top, then topped with the pimento cheese. We were very sad that we had only brought enough cash to split one, as once we polished off the last bite of our halved burger, we could see the sadness in each others eyes that we hadn’t ordered our own burger to devour. Sharing is stupid when it comes to a MV Burger! I can’t wait until next Sunday night. We will go earlier though, as we missed the Salted Caramel Milkshake. Last weeks burger was an Eggs Benedict Burger. I ordered it, as everything is better with a fried egg on top. I do wish my over easy egg was turned over on the grill, but I sucked it up and enjoyed the hell out of it. Nom! Nom! The week prior, their burger was the Keep Austin Weird burger, which was topped with New Mexico green chile. I lived in Albuquerque for 4 years, so the opportunity to have some green chile in my live s always welcome. I picked up two burgers to go this time and we inhaled them, I believe, too quickly, as I had somewhere to be. I wish I could have had more time to thoroughly enjoy and relish each bite. The week prior, my very first week to enjoy MV Burger, the specialty burger was the Carolina Burger, which had the burger patty, pulled pork, and slaw. My brother selected that one and I, the regular cheeseburger. He polished it off. Sorry for the non-detail, it was a while ago. Now, my brother’s girlfriend, I’m sad to admit… You should probably sit down… She is a vegetarian. She had on our first visit the grilled cheese. She hasn’t had one since, as it was just okay. She understands that MVB isn’t designed for the«lettuce-nibblers», but for some reason, we expected a veggie-burger option. Now, she just eats the fries and downs the shakes. We missed the shake tonight because it was prematurely sold out, so we had one very, very sad vegetarian tonight. The pimento cheese fries did add some delight to her evening though.

I like meat. No… scratch that. I LOVEMEAT! Pork, Lamb and, of course, BEEF! Ribs, Steaks… you name it, I’ll probably eat it. I’ve even enjoyed a braised beef tongue sandwich(don’t knock it til you try it). But my all time favorite use of beef has to be a nice juicy cheeseburger. And you best believe… I am a burger snob. Oh yeah, I’ll eat almost any burger, but I will most definitely be judging said burger. Harshly. I’ve had cburgers at MVB a few times. The first couple of times I wasn’t all that impressed with the regular cheeseburger. High quality meats and cheeses, yes… cooked perfectly, yes… but the burger itself lacked any true flavor. And then, I had the best burger I’ve ever had in my entire life. A burger topped with braised beef and portebello mushrooms(and I believe there was some sort of cheese on there too). BEST. BURGER. EVER. After that visit, I realized, the traditional burgers are not the way to go. For adventurous tastebuds such as mine, a burger that pushes the envelope is what is needed. So now, I go for whatever the special burger is of the week. People go crazy over the shakes… meh. I’m not that into them really. Good. But, how can you mess up a chocolate shake. Fries… okay. Fresh, hand-cut… all that good stuff, but still… they’re just fries to me. I never order them. Especially, when I know I can just steal a few from everyone else at the table. I’m not a weekly visitor. I’ve gone all of four times, I think. But I definitely appreciate a good burger, and MVB’s burgers are definitely approved by this burger snob.

«Line 50 people deep! Gack! Worth it.» –me. last sunday night. Let’s get this straight. I’m not really a wait-around-to-eat kinda girl. I get hungry and then I get cranky and, well, according to my mother I’ve been that way since the ripe old age of 2 years. I will never change. Except come Sunday nights. A good friend introduced me to MVB several weeks ago and since then I’ve been torn between promoting what is dern-near the best burger(well, burger & accoutrements, because where would it be without them?) in the city these days, and desperately trying to keep my mouth shut because I’m hideously selfish. To be totally honest, at least 12% of the buzz about this place is the sheer novelty, the genius play on supply and demand. Sundays only? Innovative burger design? We New Orleanians eat it all up(literally, figuratively, whatever). But truly, the burgers are delicious. Clearly they use a high-quality beef(and high-fat content!), but I can’t imagine the patties are any more complex than a perfect balance of salt, pepper and onion or garlic powder. Then, your patty is elevated to Cloud 9 with topping like Bourgignon or BBQ pulled pork or Benedict(of the Eggs & Hollandaise variety). Slide it all onto a bun(from an Uptown bakery… here’s to the Locavores!) and it’s magic on a paper plate! And I haven’t even gotten to the fries! Or the milkshakes! The deep friers are in constant circulation, which results in crisp, hot, salty fries all night long(they were even kind enough to pass several orders up and down the line while we waited to get in). I haven’t ventured into the realm of cheese fries or chili-cheese fries, but I have full confidence in their greasy deliciousness. Milkshakes? Spot-on. Brilliant flavor(i.e. chocolate tastes like chocolate, not Hershey’s syrup; strawberry cheesecake’s only downfall is getting cheesecake stuck on your straw) and not all air bubbles! Bottom line: I guess you could go maybe once, but try to coordinate when I’m out of the country. Or holed up in the hospital(because I work there, not because of the heart attack I’ll be having in the next few months). P. S. Be prepared. It’s BYO(and in NOLA, this means BYO while you’re waiting in line too!) and cash only($ 18 + tax for special burger, fries & milkshake).

I’ll start with the bad: Although I understand their business model, I am not a fan of it. Why’s that? They are only open on Sunday evenings, and I have a tradition in my family that Sunday evenings are for family dinner. If their one night a week open were on Friday, I would be a regular… no. I would be a fixture. Now the mediocre: the shake. I ordered a chocolate shake. It wasn’t bad at all, but it tasted like I was handed a cup of softened chocolate ice cream. Its not that I don’t like chocolate ice cream, but a shake should be more than that. furthermore straight chocolate ice cream is too intense a flavor for a shake. I’ve always felt that a chocolate shake should contain vanilla ice cream with either chocolate ice cream or chocolate syrup or cocoa powder(etc.) added to it. And then the good: The burger. I like the sauce(which seemed strikingly like creole mustard mixed with mayo — the 2 condiments I would have added had the sauce not been there). The meat was good. The bun seemed to be a little less substantial then it should have been or looks to be in the photos. Maybe they weren’t using their regular buns that evening. Finally, the missed opportunity: I will admit, this one was my fault. I like chili cheese fries. I order them when I see them, and that evening, I saw them. The problem is that although the chili was very good, and the cheese was very good, the fries were AWESOME, and I was masking AWESOME flavor with more powerful flavors that were merely«good.» If you want a burger on a Sunday evening. come here.

Three stars for effort and the no nonsense burgers, shakes and fries concept. Unfortunately MVB doesn’t live up to the hype. The burger wasn’t cooked right, the shake came out a few minutes after the burger, and I watched my waitress talk to her coworkers for about 10 straight minutes while I waited for the check. I recently had a chance to try out MVB and it definitely was an enjoyable visit. Soon as we walked in the staff was über friendly even the owner/whatever kept talking to us which was cool. I tried the cheeseburger which was absolutely wonderful, it was just right for my taste. The fries were awesome. Although the ketchup didn’t look like it, was they convinced us to try it and of course we loved it! The Milkshake… MMM, That milkshake left me with a smile and definitely had me doing my happy dance that I was able to have such a yummy treat to tempt my tastebuds. I truly enjoyed this place. Note: Try to get there for 4:50pm on Sundays right when they are opening to beat the crowds.

«Did you just order a five-dollar shake?» «Sure did.» «A shake? Milk and ice cream?» «Uh-huh.» “It costs five dollars?” «Yep.» “You don’t put bourbon in it or anything?” «Nope.» “Just checking.“ This is the Tarantino conversation that took place in my head upon looking at the menu and just as Vincent agreed after enjoying it, I don’t know if it’s worth $ 5, but it’s pretty fuckin’ good. Really, for the size of the shake(which is the perfect size mind you), about a can of pop’s worth(pop not soda), they should be charging $ 3 to $ 4. I mean what are they blending back there? The ball sweat of Ben and Jerry? But this review ain’t about the shakes my friends, it’s about the meat. And whereas the burgers themselves are usually $ 6, on the day I went they had the mansion pillaging Burger Rossini, topped with tortured duck livers and tree dirt shrooms for a low low price of $ 18. Granted that included fries but still, come on now. I’m here for a tasty burger. What do I look like? I said what do I look like? Do I look like a bitch? So I ordered the standard cheeseburger/fries/shake combo for $ 13 and went home very happy. Everything was excellent and unlike similar complaints my meat was handled perfectly and by nobody named Zed, with nerry a ball gag in sight. I love the promise of this place and how they present a brand new burger every week. I love the idea that I can get a different experience here every single time and I love their Twitter presence(@MVBurger) and how this place is practically down the street from me. If I could afford it, I’d make this a weekly stop, but at these prices, I’ll have to settle for a monthly treat. I just hope they make a Big Kahuna burger so this review can go all meta and shit.

MVB(Most Valuable Burger) is something of an oasis. In a city of amazing and gluttonous eateries, it is rather hard to be surprised by a restaurant. Food quality is important, and these guys can make a very quality burger. However, my attraction to this new pop-up restaurant is… FUN. There is something about the gorilla food scene that makes dining a little more adventurous. While the truth is that the secret about this place is largely out, you still feel a little«in the know» when you walk through the doors. These guys are clearly in it for the love. They aren’t trying to be the most extravagant burger in the city or the next franchise to-be. They are holding true to their mission of bringing a moderately priced quality burger to New Orleans that isn’t produced by a bar.

I had very high expectations for this«pop up» restaurant as one of the few non-bar places to get a burger. However, after being turned away at 7pm the first week we came back a few weeks later to try it out. The strawberry and meyer lemon shake was an average shake with a few chopped up bits of meyer lemon. It was served in a small glass and not worth the $ 5. Although the menu specified that all burgers were cooked medium rare both of our burgers arrived barely seared on the outside, red all the way through, and cold by the time they got to the table. Maybe the cooks really think they were cooked medium rare. We would have said something except our server was MIA after delivering our food. I had the greek burger and my friend had the cheeseburger. The ingredients seemed to be good quality but it was hard to enjoy cold burgers. The best part of the meal was the fries which came with a decent homemade ketchup. Service was slow and we had to wait over 20 minutes for our check. The place was crowded but everyone seemed to be friends or family of the owners. I will be sticking with balcony bar or the bulldog down the street the next time I want a burger close to home.

MVB is @MVBurger a new«pop-up restaurant» on Magazine Street in the Slim Goodies location ONLYONSUNDAYNIGHTS after 5pm. We happened to walk in about 30 minutes into their burger serving history. I think it might be the beginning of something special in the local world of burgers. The menu was super simple and printed on white copy paper: burger, cheeseburger, fries, shakes and cokes. We ordered cheeseburgers, fries and cokes… I don’t think we were asked how we wanted our burgers cooked and maybe it’s my bad to have no offered how I wanted my burger cooked. I’m a medium-well to well kinda guy. My burger was well, rare to medium-rare. It was so good I just kept eating. The burger had some special sauce, two kinds of cheese and fresh lettuce & tomato all on a very fresh bun. The burger was good… I think it would have been very good if it was cooked a little more. What was really amazing were the homemade ketchup and fries. The ketchup was brought to the table in a mason jar with a spoon in it and I’m telling you if I could have made it out the door with this jar of ketchup I would have taken it! On opening night when we were there the place was filled with local chefs and food writers. Matter of fact, the only reason I found out about it was I tweeted fellow foodie Lorin Gaudin and she tweeted me back and let me in on the secret of when & where to find MVB. Here is what Lorin had to say about MVB: Lorin tells us who is behind MVB and gives us a little history on pop-ups too. I hesitate to post this review and let more people in on the secret… maybe we can make a deal, since I found it first, I get to cut the line once the line is waiting outside their Magazine Street door? The MVBurger guys are already tweeting looking for ideas for their next burger creation. Well done guys… that’s also how I might like my burger next time!
