What a little gem of a gallery! This part of Magazine is lined with little boutiques and galleries tucked away on the first floor of old southern houses, sharing porches set back from the street by low iron gates. It’s a truly idyllic shopping experience. The Esom gallery features mostly large painted work that looks like the way I remember dreams: murky figures with a haze of emotional clarity or serene atmospheric color collages. I love the aesthetic, and the artist himself makes everyone feel completely at home just taking a look while chatting you up about local color. I totally wish I could be taking a piece from here home as my penultimate NOLA souvenir but(sigh) maybe next time.
