Let me start by saying: I know we’ve all been there. You go to a fast food place and the person who waits on you is: disinterested, rude, distracted, or just plain doesn’t want to be there, some snarky high schooler with a chip on their shoulder and just doesn’t listen. You all knew the type I mean. That was NOT the case here; Bruce was the only person in my memory(recent or long term) of fast food workers who WAS(not seemed) actually happy. He had a smile on his face the entire time I was there, so much so that I said something about it. He responded that another employee(her name escapes me now) was even happier than he was. My response, in total sarcasm, was«Is she medicated?». He said«no I don’t think so, but I’ve never asked»(clearly in on the joke). I honestly have to say that I left feeling happier than when I arrived. I guess happiness is contagious and I thank him for passing it on. I have worked in the service industry many years; I know what fake happy looks like, this wasn’t it. On to the food: I decided to order the $ 20 Family fill up(8 pieces 2 orders mashed potatoes, 4 biscuits and coleslaw.) Original Recipe of course. It was delicious and I think an excellent value. There was definitely enough for 4, but tonight it was just 2, so yeah leftovers. Lunch tomorrow cold fried chicken and coleslaw. Tomorrow’s diner will include there rest of the mashed potatoes. I know that some people are down on fast food, for a multitude of reasons; I won’t debate that here, but if you have a taste for fried chicken(do you know how much time and effort it takes to make at home?) KFC hits the spot. If you are in North Kingstown go there, if Bruce is any indication of their other employees attitudes, I’m sure you too will leave feeling happier. Why not 5 stars: With the food being delicious, really filling that craving I had, and the truly uplifting attitude of the young man that waited on me; what could I find wrong? Well those who know me, know I could find fault with a saint, if I put my mind to it. My order was to go, I intended that, though I never would eat in their very small and I’m sorry to say, ugly dinning room. I also need to take issue with the menu. Please spell things out! The $ 20 Family meal I ordered came with 8 pieces of chicken, but no where does it say what they are. This is consistent on all the meals even when you can choose your pieces. Ordering chicken shouldn’t be complicated and a poorly designed menu board doesn’t help. The Family meal is new and strangely the sign on the menu board was next to a menu item that was the same thing only $ 1.49 more expensive, go figure.

The inside is small, but clean. The drive-through staff tend to be short and rude. What’s worse, they’ve gotten our drive-through order wrong in one way or another at least 50% of the time! The only reason we keep going there is that(as NK-ers know) it’s one of two fast food places in town, and on busy weeks chicken sounds pretty good. The food itself is pretty good(except for one time when my popcorn chicken was under-cooked — BLECH!) If you buy food from here expect rude service and your order to get messed up.

A little KFC located conveniently right on the Post Road. It’s very easy to drive in and out and has a drive through as well as a pretty large parking lot. It has the usual KFC stuff and the food is consistent if nothing else, which is a plus in a place like this. Nothing special but at least no unpleasant surprises. The staff is competent and fairly quick if not especially friendly. The inside is small and cramped but clean. Because of the small size it is better to just use the drive through and not even bother to go in. One cool thing about the inside is the life size figure of the Colonel that they have sitting in one of the seats. At first glance he looks like some old bum crashed out on one of the seats. Adds a little ambiance to the joint.
