We were hungry after some playtime at the park today. We happened to be near the Firehouse on 20th Bar & Grill in NKC, so I thought I’d try their famous tenderloin sandwich & some rings. My son had the chicken fingers & tots. Everything was very good. I decided to cut the tenderloin in half, & take the other half home for lunch tomorrow. Woo hoo. Two meals in one. I liked this place. It’s a nice little dive, in a good away. I love dives. A few high tops. A couple couple of booths. A pool table. Some TV’s, including a large projected screen. Cute girl behind the bar. Mostly guys, &2 – 3 couples… all mostly retirement age(+/-10 yrs).

The patio area is really cozy and sweet if you enjoy hanging out outside and the food is excellent. The service is a little slow and you kinda have to ask for stuff but everyone is real nice and as long as you are not in a rush come on out and enjoy!

Tenderloin is definitely the biggest in town, though very good it isn’t the most flavorful. Very reasonably priced. It’s so big it leads me to believe it is pork loin not pork tenderloin they are different cuts of meat from different parts of pig. A true tenderloin is much smaller and if you pound it that big it would be paper thin these are not. You can add a 2nd bun and garden condiments for $ 1 and easily split with someone. They had s $ 5 lunch special menu my dad ordered sloppy joe and came with chips. It was piled high and tasty. Sub fries for $ 1. Had their tacos priced at $ 1.50 each. Nice sized and tasty, definitely tex mex but I really liked them. We will definitely go back.

After reading a tenderloin review in the Star decided to check out Christine’s. The monstrous tenderloin met/exceeded my expectations as one of the best I’ve ever had. Perfect breading, just the right thickness, very tender and flavorful. Horseradish sauce was among the best I’ve tasted, strong enough to stimulate your sinuses without tears. Tater tots were perfectly crispy. Service was very friendly and efficient, a place I wish I lived close enough to to become a regular.

Looking back, it seems my only criteria for a 1-star review is not getting served. As in, being completely ignored. The Chiefs had just blown out the Texans in their first playoff win in forever, and the Kyle Sexton Band was warming up; the place was packed. I get that. But when we found an open spot at the bar to holler out a drink order, and stood there eyeballing two bartenders and were never even acknowledged, we left. I guess it was a bad sign when the guy at the door said they’d waived the cover charge and wished us «good luck». The sax player I wanted to see was nowhere to be seen, so with no money invested, it was easy to just leave.

Came here randomly as I waited for CVS to fill my prescription. I was a little taken aback at the divey interior but settled in nicely once I was warmly greeted by a server. There were several screens playing NCAA hoops so I slide into a booth facing the largest one. The menu is mostly bar food with a seemingly Mexican flare. There are $ 1 tacos on Tuesday, burritos, quesadillas and nachos too. I asked the friendly server what the most popular dish was and without hesitation she said the pork cutlet. I ordered that, and the cutlet ended up being the size of the plate itself. I love how they put this giant fried flying saucer of meat on an unassuming normal-sized bun with all the fixins(lettuce, tomato, onion etc.) It came with three flavors of horseradish(Ugh, yum, and YUM on the horse heat scale) and a choice of potato(curly fries for me). Look at the Unilocal thumbnail for this place… You can easily see how absurd(and delicious) this pork cutlet is. I’ll be back.

Great food & nice food, but clearly understaffed! Had 1 beer and food and never saw our waitress again. Staff didn’t seem very welcoming to new customers.

They have the BESTTENDERLOIN and the atmosphere was great! Plus the prices are great since they are not trying to rob you for a drink!

Ok, ok, ok, now that’s a tenderloin. Did you see the size of that thing? As you know one of callings is locating the best tenderloins wherever I may roam and The Firehouse offers one that is so good they give you two. Aside from the size, this is traditionally breaded without any type of overwhelming seasoning beyond salt and pepper. They offer horseradish, pickles, mustard, lettuce and tomato on a bun that looks like Gilligan wrestling Fat Albert. The bar itself has a number of seats, booths and high tops with plenty of televisions to watch the game. The bar staff was very friendly and even the customers are always chatty. This is a friendly local place with good food. Worth your effort!

Walked in at noon with my grandparents and waited a split second for a table to be cleaned, friendly staff & awesome service from the beginning. We ordered pulled pork nachos, the Famous tenderloin &5 tacos since they are a buck on Thursdays. ALL of the food was amazing! Total dive bar but with great bar food. I’ll be back!

Went solely on the recommendation of the tenderloin. This is the epitome of a neighborhood bar and grill. The tenderloin was stupidly huge. At $ 7.99 it comes with a side and for $ 1.00 extra you get a bun and garden to make 2 sandwiches. The only way to accomplish finishing this beast. Quantity did not supercede quality either, it was lightly coated and very tender. With the price, quality, quantity, and friendly waitress I would go back again.

Our, extremely rude waitress shut the bar down very early and snatched our drinks we just paid for and poured them out. She physically shoved us out the door as we were leaving and cursed at us when we asked why we were being harassed. We did nothing to antagonize her and we had kept to ourselves while we were there. After all of this, she locked the front door and allowed a few regulars to stay. Nobody that was in our group will ever return to this bar, as long as that woman continues to be employed there. I understand everybody has their bad days but that was ridiculous. Nobody should ever be treated like that. EVER. It’s really unfortunate that one person could possibly be the cause of a business to shut down.

Great service. Great atmosphere. $ 1 draws on Tuesday/Thursday. The bartender was awesome and gave us the TV remote to find the hockey game we were looking for. First time ever coming here and we felt like we had been coming here for years. Make is a pit stop when in NKC.

I’m still mad about what happened. I’ve cooled down enough to write my review, though. It was Snake Saturday, a fun day in North Kansas City to celebrate St. Patty’s. My husband and I walked in the parade(and then everywhere else) and decided to stop in at this place with the awesome sounding band. We walked in, bought drinks, found a seat and really enjoyed the music. We planned on staying quite a while. We were sitting near the bathrooms where it seemed people were going in and out like normal. I got up to use it and the door was locked with a sign that said the bathrooms were outside. So, I walked outside. I didn’t see any restrooms so I just decided to hold it and figure it out. That’s when I see a woman walk up with a key and let several ladies in the restroom. I went up and nicely asked if I could use it. She said in a nasty tone, ‘the restrooms are out back, the ones inside are for employees.’ I told her I walked out back and didn’t see them. She says I would need to walk further. Mind you, it wasn’t just employees using the restroom. Hubby gets involved and asks very politely where and she pretty much shouted about them being out back and how she didn’t see me walk outside. The very rude woman went on with the hubby for a minute and we walked out with several paying customers following. Which sucked because the place seemed like it was going to be cool for us to hang out at. It’s unfortunate that this woman has no concept of how to treat customers and is in an obvious position of authority at this bar.

Went here for lunch the other day. And it ended up being taco Tuesday, they have 6 inch tacos fully loaded for a dollar and they are amazing. They actually make their taco shells in house they are fresh and crispy. The taco meat is very fine and seasoned to perfection, the tomatoes and lettuce are also nicely diced and they have a great salsa. Since it was lunchtime and we had to go back to work we stuck with sodas and lemonade. They have a great lemonade. Wait staff was very professional and seem to know a lot of the locals by name, very fast and efficient and kept our glasses full asked if we needed anything else and brought us extra napkins. They had a very large menu for a bar with quite a bit of variety and we will definitely be back to try other items on the menu.
