Black Horse Tavern and Grill

I bought a Groupon and thought to give this place a try. If Unilocal had a ½ star increment, I would give it 3.5 stars.
First of all, this place isn’t too far from me in terms of distance, but we had to take 91 (then to 15N) and its always traffic on 91, so we took 71N and drove a big circle, instead of stuck in traffic. So the drive over took longer than we anticipated. Of course this isn’t the fault of the restaurant, but plays into my ultimate decision.
We went there on Saturday night, was a little crowded, we were told about 10−15min wait, but waited for about 20min, no major issue, but were hungry due to the longer drive. We couldn’t use Groupon for the Saturday special. So we ordered ribs and prime rib. The food was ok, I suppose, though not spectacular. Service was decent, our waitress was somewhat friendly. With Groupon, the price was certainly good.
Ultimately, this restaurant has ok food and service, and good prices with Groupon, but nothing really got a hold of me. Then combine that with a longer drive, I think that was our first and last time. Put it differently, if they have no Groupon but is located 2 minutes from me, I wouldn’t go because in my opinion regular prices are high for the ok quality of food there.

Great service, delicious food. Refreshing beer, what more can you ask for, I love this place.
It’s so good I’m on a mission to try everything on the menu, I’ve visited about 6 times tried something different and have yet to be disappointed.
Hit it up, you wont regret it.

I was told 15 – 20 min wait it took 45 – 60 min to get seated then when we where being seated they gave our booth to a drunk couple that had already been at the bar seated. and the old manager lady working was rude to me and my girlfriend. way to go on the good workers Jonas

I’m giving this restaurant 4 stars for their one of a kind hanger steak. That specialty is definitely a must try when you go here.

The food was amazing and service was excellent. The hanger steak and Croquettes did not disappoint. Great atmosphere can’t wait to go back!

Was really disappointed with the service & food. Went in Sunday February 14^th ordered around 7ish and was pleasantly surprised it wasn’t too busy and we were seated in about 10 minutes.
The problem was that we ordered our food and it was only appetizers, dinner salad and baked potato.
The food took 45 minutes from the time we ordered till it came out. The waitress didn’t ask me if I would like my dinner salad before the appetizers came out. The worst part is the food was cold!!! The server didn’t come to our table to check on us for about 10 minutes after we got everything. The baked potato was dry and cold. I was seriously disappointed, not sure if I will return

The food was ok. Best local place if you have a craving for steak and potatoes. We had a great waitress names Trinity. She was nice, professional, accommodating and friendly. Kudos to her service!

It’s OK
Very much the bar scene here. Even for Breakfast. All day Sunday Happy Hour has a lot to do with it when I was there recently. Lots of folks ordering 20oz Drafts pretty early in the day.
Breakfast was just OK and service was a bit slow.
Didn’t really do it for me.

I’m pretty sure this is my 2^nd review, dont know what happened to the 1^st one.
We had dinner here last night, thursday night is «Hangar» Steak night and let me tell you, Dang well worth it. We started with the happy hour appetizers, potato skins and boneless wings, both very tasty. Ordered 2 big beers that come in a frosty mug, delicious. And for the entrée’s we went with the special, Hangar steak, baked potato and veggies, ordered the steak well and it came well. Wait staff is always on point and always friendly. Love this place. Really need to come back and check out their breakfast. Thank you Black Horse for another great evening. We will be returning.

Service was great. We were seated promptly and greeted by our waitress. She answered all our questions about the menu and was very helpful. ⁵⁄₅
The layout and size of the restaurant was extremely cramped. I could hear all of the other tables’ conversations. My kids and I had to walk in between tables sideways and we are pretty small. My husband had to dodge so many elbows and the backs of people’s head and constantly say «excuse me». Restaurant overall was clean and neat. ³⁄₅.
Food was mediocre. We had the Fish Fry, which came with coleslaw, fries, fried shrimp and cod; the country fried chicken which came with steamed veggies, mashed potatoes and gravy, and cornbread; two pounds of their hot wings; and the kid’s spaghetti dinner with fruit. The presentation was great! But overall, all the dishes lacked major seasoning. The cornbread was inedible, it tasted like weird chemicals. The hot wings were the best dish, but you can get those anywhere. ³⁄₅
Unfortunately we had high expectations of this place because of all the positive reviews. We’ve driven past it many times and never thought to try it. The place was packed as well. It wasn’t a stand out meal, we probably won’t be back again. Overall 3.5÷5.

Great taco Tuesday spot! Carnitas is awesome, blackened fish is pretty good, and chicken is 3^rd favorite. I didn’t like the carne asada very much though.
Monday’s build your own burger special is also another good day to go. Lots of options for your burger with very good quality meat.

This is a fantastic place where even the locals come to eat. The Hanger Steak is their signature meal and it’s fantastic. They marinate the meat and it comes so tender and flavorful. Thursday night is their Hanger Steak special night but they also use the Hanger Steak in other menu items like Carne Asada tacos and the Hanger Steak Sandwich.
Definitely go to their Taco Tuesday!!! The Asada tacos are made from the Hanger Steak, they also have chicken, carnita’s, shredded beef and both grilled and baja style deep fried fish tacos with the taco bar that has all the fixings.
The BLT/​Avocado is probably the best BLTA that I have ever had, a heaping portion of bacon on an insane toasted parmesan bread. It comes with sprouts on the menu but they have no problem subbing in lettuce for you.
The Happy Hour menu has some good appetizers and a good selection of beers to accompany them. They have a big wrap around bar with lots of seating. If you come for Taco Tuesday or Hanger Steak Thursday, come early because they fill up fast and it gets crowded.
The Black Horse Tavern sits in a simple strip mall but the inside is very nice. The staff is courteous and they try their best to keep up with the crowds. I definitely would recommend giving this a try, you won’t be dissapointed.

Hanger steak is delicious and great value for money. Generous portions on everything.

To start the night the hostest told us ¹⁰⁄₁₅ min wait it took them 35 – 40 mins to seat 2 (and a half).
Our waitress was very nice and prompt but the reason i gave them only 2 stars is because the food was not good.
I got the south west turkey wrap and it was dry, the turkey tasted old. The only thing good on that wrap was the avacado. I feel like i would drench it in ranch and it was still dry!!!
My husband got the texas burger. He said the buns were very soggy the burger was cold like it had been sitting for too long, He also said the flavor was bland.
We also both ordered the garlic sweet potato fries. And honestly there was WAY too much garlic.

Good service, GREAT FOOD and happy hour is spot on! I Come here alot on Thursdays for «steak night date night» (titled that myself). 12oz hangar steak, 2 sides for 10.99… it’s big enough to share! Great deal and the steak is always perfectly seasoned, however it is sometimes slightly overcooked so now I order «medium» to achieve «medium well». Took my mom here once and she loves it now! Tons of options on happy hour menu, and ALL the food is great. (Ps, the ranch is homemade so don’t forget to order a garden salad with ranch). Referred so many friends and family here for steak night and ALL love it! It gets super busy after 5pm so try and come early as the special Is all day (no reservations).

As of this moment I’m in a holiday inn express bathroom (second stop thus far), the first emergency stop was at the costco where I almost didn’t make it to the restroom as well.
Let’s Tarantino this and go back to the beginning;
Came here because of a Groupon, ordered the hangar steak; waited a long time, got my meal and it was barely warm borderline cold food.
Asked the manager for a hot meal (medium with the outside charred) she brought back a rare steak, sent it back only to get more of the same, only this time I got a massive surprise from the kitchen: diarrhea! Although I didn’t know it yet.
Left a 12 dollar tip and left the restaurant, before I could make my first turn I felt the onset of diarrhea, bubble guts! Raced to Costco almost didn’t make it, made my way home afterwards and thought the worst of it was behind me. Felt stomach pains again and stopped at the holiday inn express, still on the toilet writing this.

Came upon this lil gem, in… wait for it… Norco! Yes, of all places. Quite a pleasant surprise. Was looking for a new place to try, one that served steaks was a plus. Unilocal reviews were enough to convince us to check it out. (I really liked the name of the restaurant as well).
Everything was as the reviews stated. For appetizers, we ordered the main mahi tacos & spicy potato croquettes. For entrées, we ordered the Hanger Steak with 2 sides, veggies & rice pilaf; Angus Prime Rib Roast with 2 sides, veggies & fries. I almost forgot, French Onion & Potato Cheese Soups, which come with your dinner. Everything was cooked & seasoned to perfection! (See photos) Didn’t have room for dessert this time. We will be back!

Chili Soup is the best!!!
The lunch is very affordable!
I always order «½ sandwiches with Soup» $ 8!
The sandwich is fresh and tasty.
The soup is huge and has a lot of beef and the taste is so great! I can easy to figure out this doesn’t use can soup.
Dinner time, I recommend «Ahi Taco» from the appetizer. It’s amazing!!!
But unfortunately I didn’t like steak so much.
But the others are great.
The price is good, the service is great!
Every servers are always friendly and very kind.

Sister picked out the spot for Father’s days breakfast. Met up here and would never think this restaurant would be in this kind of plaza.
But anyways the food was delicious with large portions, most of us order steak and eggs and no complaints. The service here was amazing and our server was great dealing with my parents always changing their orders.
Will be coming here again if ever in the are for sure. Highly recommended from me.

This place continues to be excellent.
Went in for a very late (2PM, Sunday) lunch today. They were obviously still cleaning up after the real lunch, and were still pretty busy. But we got seated immediately, and drink and appetizer orders showed up quickly.
Keep in mind that Sunday, the «Happy Hour» lasts all day, with both a drink and a small eating menu. Bloody Mary’s are $ 4, Long Island’s are $ 5, wings are $ 4, etc. And they are ALL good!
We then ordered the fried chicken breast (boneless) and the chicken fried steak. Both came with mashed potatoes (with skins) and gravy. Licked the plate! Will definitely have again.
We have always had good service here, but today was exceptional. In addition to the hostess and two waitresses that kept coming by, our favorite was actually the busboy. He was extremely courteous, and always asked how we liked things. The last time he said: «Next time you come by, ask me, and I’ll tell you what the best stuff is on the menu». Couldn’t help but smile.
So before leaving, I asked to speak to the manager because I had a complaint. She showed up immediately, and I complained that there was not another location closer to my home and that they should open a place it Menifee.
Yes, we will be back.
