The drinks here are great, and the servers are fantastic, but the food is just sub par. I had the fish and chips and I had to drown the fish in vinegar and salt to get any flavor. The fries were a bit soggy and stale. My boyfriend got the shepherd’s pie which was again a bit flavorless and underwhelming. For the price we paid I’m sure we could find something more flavorful elsewhere.

Great location next to Fashion Island mall. Décor is a warm & cozy Irish Pub style! Nice pub to hangout and had a live band! Staffs are freindly & services was ok Weekend it’s packed but it was nice and quiet on a weekday. Plenty of beer selection was good. Great light Goddess Salad, Smoked Salmon & Herbed Flat Bread. The hearty Irish Stew & Sheperd’s Pie were excellent for St. Patrick’s day The berry trifle quite ridiculously! Corned Beef Sandwich. The flavors were good but the meat was so tough! The huge Mint chip mudd pie great pair with dark chocolate sauce… Will try the happy hour next time!

Muldoon’s was an okay place to go. The Fish and Chips were fresh. The beer selection was good. Fries had gone bad and were brown. The overall ambience of the restaurant, bar and live band area left something to be desired. Not what I had expected from a restaurant live band scene.

This place was an awesome hangout and had a live band. Drinks were delicious. The food looked good, but I didn’t try any which is why I’m only providing 4 stars until I return.

Warm, inviting and friendly staff. Atmosphere with beautiful wood paneling and seating, fireplace and lovely décor reminiscent of an Irish pub. You enter into an outdoor dining which is a bit different and then enter where the bar is small and packed. Entertainment on some nights. I loved the feel of this place and the burger sliders were just ok. The bread with raisins and butter was tasty. Some food items looked quite delicious but definitely not on the healthy side. What should I expect from an Irish pub anyways! I would come back to try an Irish treat. The Guinness had a delicious full bodied flavor. Romantic feel in the dining area and energy in the bar area.

My friends and I came here for St. Patricks Day where they had a celebration. The pub was crowded, and it looked nice on the inside, it was reminiscent of a kind of open plaza market area and some places to eat and drink on the side. It was however a little bit boring after while, as the entertainment was so-so and when the band/music or whatever stopped the place kind of just felt a little slow. It was a cool place to check out and see, but probably not something I would enjoy in the future for St Patty’s Day.

I only really come here during St. Patrick’s Day… but if there’s anywhere you should go on that holiday this is the place. For about the past three years I’ve come to this restaurant/pub and I’ve had a blast every time. On one side they have a restaurant on the other side a pub and in between an outdoor courtyard, which if the weather if favorable(it almost always is in Orange County) makes for a beautiful day. They always have live music here on St. Patrick’s Day… usually a band in the courtyard playing cover songs, traditional Irish ballads and drinking songs which makes the vibe here outstanding(dust off your dancing shoes). I’ve never actually eaten at the restaurant but they do have… on one side of the bar… a cater-esque area where you can get a couple of limited food options(I’ll have to get down here one of these days and try the actual food because the Bangers and Mash plate looked amazing!). I usually opt for the Banger Bites which is essentially two sausages cut up that comes with a side of… I think… house made sweet mustard that’s really delicious. The prices can be a bit more than I feel is reasonable but it’s really worth it coming here for the atmosphere and all around fun I have celebrating the holiday. Pros: This is a great place with a really fun vibe for St. Patrick’s Day. Live music. Good location. Cons: Food seems pricy for what it is(again this is not a review on the restaurant itself). Can get crowded, and of course the dreaded portable toilets!

I LOVE this place! Always a great hang out with happy bartenders who are very attentive throughout the night. Location is directly across from Fig and Olive near Fashion Island. Décor inside is a warm Irish Pub style while their al fresco patio is quaint with cobblestone flooring. They have live music Thursday nights through Sunday nights which is always a pleasant surprise when I forget it. Their food ranges from a light Goddess Salad, Smoked Salmon on Herbed Flat Bread to a hearty Irish Stew or Sheperd’s Pie… great choices to satisfy and crowd. — Both bartenders, Crystal and Corbin, thank you for always making our experience a delight !

Came here for the Restaurant week special $ 20 lunch. Tried the Split Pea Soup, Fish and chips, and Berry Trifle. The Irish Soda Bread is good! The Split Pea Soup was yummy! It’s not something I would normally order but it was surprisingly good. Fish and Chips: the fish is the best I’ve ever had! It’s light and not too greasy. I wasn’t a fan of the fries though. They did nothing for me. Kinda just tasted stale. The berry trifle was ridiculously good! I could have licked the plate clean! My bf tried the Corned Beef Sandwich. The flavors were good but the meat was so tough! You could hardly bite into it. His Guinness on Nitro was the best I’ve ever had. It was so creamy! Like drinking butter. Overall, the food was good. The normal prices are exorbitant though. There’s no way I would normally get the appetizer and dessert even though they tasted very good. I’m a poor graduate student and can’t afford these prices!

This place is amazing. Seriously amazing! It’s some of the best, heartiest food I’ve ever had. The prices aren’t exorbitant and the décor is incredible. It seriously feels like you’re in Ireland!.There’s a whole beautiful outdoor area with lots of trees and lanterns and occasionally live music, and a warm, spacious indoor area with fireplaces, private booths, antique-looking windows, charming wallpaper and fresh flowers on the tables. The fish and chips are the meal to get, although I also enjoy the New York steak. It comes with onion rings which are battered in the same stuff as the fish. Everything I have ever ordered there has been great! They have Guinness on tap as well as several other beers. Although I’ve always been too full to sample it, I hear the desserts are excellent as well. If you’re in Newport Beach, you’ll probably end up at Fashion Island. And when you do, please feel free to take a lunch break at Muldoon’s.

Very authentic Irish pub! When I went late on Thursday after a mixer event I had next door at the the Civic Center, it was fairly empty minus a couple of groups and dates enjoying live music and the nice, outdoor patio area. There were two main rooms with bars, but for some reason one side of the room was closed and though there were people inside, the bar was closed. So we naturally went to the bar where the live music was playing, grabbed our drinks, and went outside to the patio. Initially there was no wait service and we needed to order at the bar but subsequently, we were helped while seated and were able to order drinks with the waitress. I tried the hoppy poppy IPA on tap, which was pretty good. However, it being an Irish pub at all, we moved on to try the Irish whisky sampler(4 samples of Bushmill and Black bush aged), along with the red breast whisky. All was hunky dory and we stayed pretty late until we left. I can’t imagine coming here on a Friday when it’s packed but it was nice and quiet on a weekday. It has an odd, quaint feel, almost like a murderer would be lurking in the shadows. Okayy maybe that’s a bit much and rude(sorry, yall) but once I got past that initial discomfort, I got lost in my own conversation. Large groups would be welcome here since it’s spacious, but casual date works too.

I wanted to like Muldoon’s Irish Pub but… Just kidding, I would never throw that in a review. Muldoon’s is the mother of all 3 star reviews. Nice, if not great, ambiance coupled with a fantastic layout makes it a great first impression and if you are there just to drink, 4 stars is in the making. Long and clean bars are seemingly everywhere and the bartenders almost act as if they want to serve you. The music is loud, the people are pretty and the area is safe. The douche factor is nearly zero, unheard of this deep into Newport Beach. By bar standards alone Muldoon’s Irish Pub’s game is really strong. The cuisine however is simply wretched. Perhaps the worst in the area. From the greasy«Banger Bites» to the disgusting Shepard’s Pie you really cannot go right at Muldoon’s. Even the Burgers suffer thanks to all of them arriving medium-well regardless what temperature you order. I cannot decide if the kitchen just doesn’t care or gave up once Red O and Fig and Olive opened doors across the street but the food is all kinds of awful. Come fed. 1 star food and close to 5 star drinking gives Muldoon’s Irish Pub an aggregate of 3 stars. And I rounded up(Good god that food is bad).

Such fun getting to spend time here. The accuracy of pub culture, dining, music is fantastic. Their outdoor seating, with the tree in the middle is so simply beautiful. When they bring you out the Irish Soda Bread, it sure doesn’t look like much. It looks like a lump of hard bread. Oh my goodness, it was delicious! I’m not a huge butter and rolls before a meal type of person, but I certainly had more than one helping of it. I was boring and had their chicken chopped salad– and was surprised by how tasty it was. For a pub to do a salad well says a lot. I have heard from many people how delicious their fish & chips or bangers & mash are. No doubt, this is the place to get your pub food and culture. Cheers!

Kudos for pulling off the authenticity of an Irish Pub. Lots of food and drink options. I have only been on weekends nights but the place is definitely happening at this time! There is live music, too, which is always great. Would consider this a good place for a birthday celebration or a fun night out for a large group! Loses one star for the crowd… it can be a bit much. And it is a pretty small place. So it can be a little difficult to get service with everyone crowding around the bar. But that’s a pub for ya!

I love this place. Muldoon’s is the ideal place for me to grab a beer. Located across the street from Fashion Island, this cozy little Irish pub has all the style and character of an old world bar without any of the usual dinginess. The open air patio is a great place to hang out on a warm night and the service is as friendly as it gets. I can’t think of any place in the OC that I would rather go to enjoy a tall glass of Guinness or knock back a few black & tans while watching some sports and listening to some good music. Come by on a weeknight to avoid the crowds and I guarantee you will enjoy yourself. Cheers.

IRISHFOR A DAY!!! _____________________________________________ Free parking in the complex. No cover charge. This is a pub style restaurant next to Fashion Island mall. The ivy-covered brick building is established in 1974; Muldoon(taken after the owner’s bulldog name) is definitely stayed strong in the business. Feeling like going back into the past when entering its Tavern dining room: romantic ambiance with fireplace, hand-painted Irish proverbs along the ceilings, darts game, sport on the TVs. Laughter and cheers all over the place. They have 4(four) different rooms with 2(two) pubs(black set, dimmer lights, arts), spacious courtyard. You could hop around as you wish from one room to another. FOODS: #Banger bites(Irish sausages): moist, delicate. #Pub stew: taste of home, loved the flavor, rich beef gravy with potatoes and carrots. DRINKS: beer beer beer, plenty of selection. SERVICE: fast, friendly, all smiley face, beautiful waitresses. THELIVEBAND(celtic rock music genre): THEDROPPERS: @Joe Puccio(vocals/guitar): he has a charisma to live up the crowd’s mood. @Mike Fitzgerald(drummer): insane thumping beats, rolls, crescendos I feel the passion flowing up, all the feet jumping and dancing! The tempo was kicked up and ripping! There were taxis lining up, waiting for passengers in front of the pub, in case you need a ride. There was a police car patrolling as well around the complex. Drink responsibly, peeps!!! _______________________________________________ LONGLIVEPUBCULTURE!!! SLAINTE!!!

The boyfriend’s mom was in town this past weekend and a client of hers had set up a comp dinner for the three of us at Muldoon’s. I warily looked up the Unilocal and was pleasantly surprised to discover a solid 4-start reputation. Phew. God, I’m a total Unilocal snob. I own it. It’s located in the Fashion Island area of Newport and it’s not what I expected ATALL. In a good way. I’ve come to expect cookie-cutter Newport from this area of town(read as: sports cars, cougars, expensive suits). Upon entering Muldoon’s I was bewitched. What an incredibly charming little space! You walk into an open air courtyard with twinkling strand lights and standing heaters throughout. It was a bit chilly(by California standards, the Chicagoan in me chuckled at the heaters) so mom opted to sit indoors. Again, incredibly cute, cozy and decorated tastefully for the holiday. If you enjoy cider-type beers you have to get the Magner’s Irish Cider. Totally different than American-style ciders that lean on the sweet note too often. This cider was crisp and dry and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was the perfect compliment to my fish and chips. Mom ordered the Dublin Dip steak sandwich and we split plates. The fish and chips were perfect(and interestingly snapper, not cod)…nice crispy fried deliciousness. And while I usually find tartar sauces unappealing, this one was obviously homemade and lovely. The steak sandwich was good, but I have incredibly high standards when it comes to dip sandwiches thanks to White Chocolate Grill back home. So I give this sandwich a 3.5/5…I wish the steak were more thinly sliced. I also prefer the horseradish sauce on the side so I can slather that *ish on with the reckless abandon of a drunk streaker at a baseball game. Boyfriend was a little«meh» about his Shepard’s Pie, however I tasted it and it was what I expected. Ground meat, vegetables, mashed potato topping. He was probably just pissed that cheese wasn’t involved, if I’m being completely honest. *wink* I’d go back for the fish and chips if I had occasion to. I wouldn’t go out of my way to dine here without a reason, though.
