So it is to my understanding that you must have a reservation at this cellar aside from Thanksgiving weekend where they open to the public. Man… well they make the visit during Thanksgiving weekend worth it and it was PACKED!!! To start… question how many wines you will be tasting. My husband and I both go our own when we should have split. For $ 25 we tasted 14 different wines, all Pinot Noirs!!! Can you say«Holy Cow?!!» We definitely left the place a little«tipsy.» Plus their wines are really good here, I think we left with 4 bottles.(Also, some very good moderately priced bottles here! They have some expensive reserve bottles but I don’t agree with the 3 $ here on Unilocal. We paid about $ 200 for 4 bottles and 2 tastings. Good Oregon Pinot usually starts around $ 50 and tastings are usually $ 15 for 6 – 7 wines.) Anyways, they made stations on all sides on the barrel room. It’s kind of a garage area where they leave the doors open so be sure so dress weather appropriate. They had 3 tables of wine with a HUGE spread of cheese, meats, crackers and fruit. It was so busy that unfortunately we probably didn’t get to talk to the people pouring as much as we would have liked but it was fun to mingle among all other wine-os! If you have time and can get a reservation here, I would suggest it.(Also, seemed to be dog friendly!)

Had a couple of glasses of a Pinot Noir at a local restaurant while visiting Newport, Oregon. Very good wine. I really like wines that, as I call it, melt in my mouth. This one did just that. I will be trying to find this at my local grocery store.

Our first stop on our wine weekend, and Patricia Green did not disappoint. Lot’s of great wine and Carolyn was very informative and attentive. Always one of our favorites.

Had an EXCELLENT time sampling the wines here! All of the employees were very down-to-earth, friendly, and knowledgable-exactly what you want, but don’t always get! And the cheese & cracker spread was on point [i.e., perfect selection of cheeses, ranging from mild to strong; the best crackers(those really thin, plain ones); and lox!). Would love to go back & explore the vineyard next time.

I LOVE Patty Green wines! She makes several Pinot Noirs. Some I like better than others, but really they are all good! If someone offered me any Patricia Green wine I would not turn it down! Yes, please! My faves are both of the Balcombes, Notorious, Freedom Hill(all of them), and the etzel. I am not a white wine kind of girl, but I love her Sauvignon Blanc. There are not many wine makers that make Sauvignon Blanc here in Oregon. Hers is the best. Really good paired with oysters. There is not a tasting room and they are only open a few weekends a year, which makes it all the more special. Although I believe you may be able to call and set up an appointment. We go every Memorial Day weekend and taste and then order futures to pick up in November. People that work there, Mattie, Connie and others are super nice and friendly. This is one of the Best in Oregon. If you get a chance to go to one of the events you totally should. You will be hooked!

Patricia Green cellars was perhaps the best winery visit that we made while in the valley. The winery produces a wide variety of pinos all with great depth. We purchased way too much wine there and will order more once w ereturn home.

We all have favorites. Whether relatives or friends or pets. You know how it is; you love them all but some hold a more soft place in your heart than others. So it is with Patricia Green Cellars for us and Oregon wineries. There are many great wine makers and wineries, but Patricia Green Cellars occupies that special place for us because of the wines, the wine maker and the winery hospitality at events. WINES Both my husband and I are fans of Patricia Green Pinot Noir, but his hands down favorite of all Pinot Noir is her Notorious bottling.(Yes, you’re right, if you’re read my Unilocal Profile that is also the name of my favorite movie. One is not connected to the other in this case.) But all of the Patricia Green Pinots are noteworthy and all make great food companions. Patricia Green also bottles wonderful Sauvignon Blanc. Maybe the Rodney Dangerfield of white varietals in the Willamette Valley, I think only Patty Green and one other winemaker are bottling SV these days and the acres planted to this varietal from which they can harvest continues to dwindle. Sadly, because this is a great wine. Every year we look forward to the early Summer release(just about now) of Patricia Green’s Sauvignon Blanc and every year it is more difficult to find given more limited production. In everything is connected mode, I time the posting of this Unilocal review now having just learned the new Sauvignon Blanc release should be available for purchase at the winery during both the weekend before Memorial Day(an open to newsletter subscribers event but I’m sure all walk ins to buy are welcome) and Memorial Day. WINEMAKER Part of our affection for Patricia Green wines has to do with the winemaker herself. We’ve had a chance to meet her at a couple of winery events and she has a personality, smile and laugh that lights up a space. Ultra approachable, a walking font of information about wine making, and with an infectiously(in the best use of the word) passionate quality that makes a wine drinker want to drink more and know more about what’s in the bottle. Not to mention that she produces one of the very best newsletters in the Willamette Valley. Always informative, it is also sometimes poignant and downright heart-tugging. WINERYEVENTS Patricia Green Cellars does not have a tasting room and is only open a couple of weekends a year for events. The standard Memorial Day weekend in the Willamette Valley, as example. That is coming up, so that makes this a good time to post this review. For newsletter subscribers, there is also the weekend before Memorial Day event, but this year that seems mostly a come in and buy opportunity, as opposed to the full blown open house of Memorial Day. And hands down one of the most fun of all winery events we’ve ever attended in the Willamette Valley was a weekend before Thanksgiving Event a couple of years ago held in the old barn on the Patricia Green property. Great wine was poured to taste, along with nibbles, of every bottling available for purchase. Patty Green and the winery team circulated to talk to happy fans of the winery. We bumped into wino friends from far and near.(In everything is connected mode, we all know enough to subscribe to the Patricia Green newsletter and drink her wine.) We drank wine, we laughed with other wine drinkers and we purchased wine to share with still other wine drinkers at another time. TIPS: 1) This year Patricia Green Cellars is releasing a new white, Muscat Ottenel. Is there anything more fun for a wine lover than discovering a new varietal?(Rhetorical question.) I associate Muscat varietals with sweet wines. But apparently in Alsace, and now in Oregon, this particular varietal is also produced as a dry white wine. It will only be available at the winery during events, outside of a couple of restaurants which will have it on menu. So heads up to Yeeps and other peeps who love to try new wines this is another reason to visit Patrica Green Cellars during the upcoming Memorial Day event. 2) There should be a wacky Patricia Green Sauvignon Blanc tasting party about mid July. This year it is going to be held at the J. Christopher winery(also making good SV) and not at the Patricia Green Cellars barn. Check with the winery for details then go taste and buy some of this great white wine for summer drinking.

Me too! I’ve haven’t had the chance to make it up to Oregon to visit her winery, but I’m a big fan of Patricia Green. The 2009 vintage Pinot Noir is like velvet. It will run you about $ 35.00, but it’s well worth it. If you can get a hold of the Sauvignon Blanc it’s outstanding. Not your typical SB. It’s very clean and fresh. No grassy notes or overdone citrus and oak. A really refreshing wine. Yes, they have a limited production, so be sure to stock up if you see it.

Make an appointment, taste the wines, buy the wines… this place makes some of the best Pinots in Oregon, and they don’t show the attitude that normally follows such praise.

I waited all year to go to taste Patty Green’s wines. The suspense was killing me, since I don’t seem to find her wines in any stores and her winery in Newberg is only open on the day after Thanksgiving. She seems to have established a good reputation for herself according to the Oregonian Winepress. Well, I paid my $ 20 to get in, I don’t think her wines are bad at all, they all smell pretty«inky» and taste inky, which is not bad, but they all tasted somewhat«watered down»(Pinots are supposed to be delicate but not watered down), also they were lacking in length and the tartaric acid was very prominent in all of them but the«Notorious 07 Pinot Noir» and the«Eason 07 Pinot Noir» which I guess were ok, but not worth my year’s anticipation. I would probably have these wines with food, but I don’t think I would like to purchase and drink a whole bottle. As for«Women taste better», I guess it depends which team you are«batting for» ;).

I have yet to visit the winery itself but I am a big fan of Patricia Green and her team. I had the pleasure of meeting her at a winemaker dinner at Soif in Santa Cruz a couple years ago and not only are her wines spectacular but she is really laid back and funny. I mean, they have schwag with the tagline«Women Taste Better.» You gotta love that. Very limited production wines and worth every penny. I almost hate to do a review because they’re so hard to get anyway… but I liked her too much to not let the world know. Open only by appointment, with a couple of exceptions for holidays.
