A F$&%in’ Masterpiece. Word on the street has long praised this place for made in-house dumplings and chow mein, and I got to see that firsthand. It’s not uncommon to see three dumpling makers, um, three sorcerers, at a time in the kitchen conjuring up acts of beauty for consumption. There’s a magic inside each dumpling in terms of stewed ingredients that gets me humming — each bite tingles. I suppose I lived in a time when I didn’t know what SHANGHAIDUMPLINGS were. It’s not a time that I want to go back to. If you don’t know what they are, well, they’re little bombs of joy. See, there’s a sweltering soup inside that dumpling. Legend has it, the Tibetan monks eat these soup dumplings in order to live past 100. You order anything and everything else you can while you’re at the King of Kings, err, «King of Dumplings.» You stuff your mouth and fill yourself until your love handles collapse past your knees, you hear me? The Tibetan monks will pray for you. The waving kitten on the wall says it’s OK to take a cat nap when you get home from grubbin’. I do stumblin’ for dumplings. Hey, last thing, you know what else is powerful? The THREEFLAVORDUMPLINGS, twenty of those will give you sixty body tingles. Yeah, yeah. Loving this place is gonna get dangerous. #foodslut

As you chew right into it the dumpling, the juices explore out, so need to be careful not to burn your mouth. The flavor is fresh and seasoned well. They have different fillings in the dumpling The popular one is «the three rainbow» which has shrimp, pork, and chives. If you are vegetarian or lamb eaters, they can accommodate you as well. Dishes portion — moderate,

Come here if you’re ready to eat some carbs! We came here for brunch on a friend’s recommendation. They got hand-pulled noodles that’s made fresh in the restaurant, and amazing dumplings. We got pan fried tianjing baos(if you’re getting this and want it pan fried, remember to specify it, otherwise it may come steamed), some regular dumplings, jajiangmien, beef noodle soup, and eggs wrapped with onion pancake. Everything was super delicious. The beef noodle soup here was pretty great, especially with the hand pulled noodle. The Jajiangmien got great bean paste sauce, which I rarely come by something that try to be authentic(this is different from the Korean version which is quite sweet). I’m definitely a fan!

Came here to eat some xiao long bao’s after reading all the good reviews. I ordered the pork xiao long bao, green onion pancake with egg, and chicken dumplings. I really enjoyed that there is a chinese chef that makes the noodles. I like watching him carefully separate all the noodles. The noodles do taste fresh and dougy. I also like the skin on the dumplings, so chewy and good. They have a variety of different types of dumplings from pork, chicken to vegetarian. I wanted to explore other items on the menu but did not have room this time. They also have a lot of frozen buns, and dumplings that some of their customers came in and ordered to go. Price point is also reasonable. It is around $ 8 per dish. I enjoyed it and will be back for more dumplings, noodles and xiao long bao.

3.5* Upon entering, you’ll notice it’s not the cutest place. Definitely a simple eatery that seems like it was a tapioca express in its past life. I saw frozen dumplings they sell too. I dined here twice and I noticed a mixed crowd, as in ethnicities, which is nice. Xiao long bau– prob spelled it wrong but it was my least favorite. It came w 6 per order, freshly steamed. There was little filling that deflated quickly and lacked juiciness the good ones have. I’d pass on this. 2/5* Onion pancake– crisp outside with soft layers in between. It was laced with chopped green onions and yes its fried and darn tasty treat. Not the best but good. 4/5* Pine nut fish– another fried guilty pleasure. The sauce is almost like sweet and sour but without the sour. The sauce is a bit thick and sprinkled with frozen peas(yuck I pick them out… they’re firm in middle), carrots and wood ear fungus(?). For $ 12 you get two large freshly fried fillet of white fish. I ordered this twice and was cooked perfectly each time. The fried crust is crunchy enough to withstand the thick sweetened sauce. So I actually like it sitting in sauce for few minutes prior to eating. 4/5* Dumpling with pork, shrimp and chive– 12 per order for about $ 7. So I haven’t eaten that many dumplings so this is more about taste than authenticity. The skin is fairly thin to medium. It’s not paper thin. The filling is perfect amount. Decent flavor. 4/5* Hand pulled noodles– had it as chow mein. I felt the noodles lost the chewiness that hand pulled noodles are known for. Prob boiled then stir fried? I’d pass on this. I actually prefer premade noodles which can withstand the stir fry and soak up more of the soy sauce while cooking. 2/5* Overall decent spot but some things are good yet others lacking. Pick and choose wisely!

In my never-ending quest for the best Taiwanese style beef noodle soup, I headed to King of Dumplings to check out its version. The broth had a better depth than most, with a slight sesame oil finish, and the handpulled noodles and tender beef were great. The dish has baby bok choy instead of the more traditional chopped, slightly sour mustard green. Also had the soup dumplings, which weren’t standout, but no complaints. Like everyone else, I am making do until Din Tai Fung finally opens at Valley Fair. Then I took home two bags of the shrimp, pork, and chive dumplings, which were also quite tasty pan-fried. Still prefer Thousand Tasty’s version of this dumpling, but these were a great deal at $ 8 for 25. Friendly, efficient service in a casual environment.

My purpose here was for the Shanghai dumpling. Know what you want, order those dumpling ahead of time. They took forever to make. The dumplings was not the best to me. They were thick skin, not much meat, some had soups, some didn’t, and the skin was chewy. I’m not the type to complain about it. It is because I had really good Shanghai dumplings. If you look at the picture of the dumplings I post, look at the top of the tip. It is dried, some hard, and we end up biting the tips off. No, you don’t get red vinegar or ginger. They only have dark vinegar. Also ordered the beef noodle soup spicy. That was pretty good. It was not spicy at all, just had a kick to it. Service was ok, they forgot about us. It wasn’t busy until we left. Would I come back? No thank you.

Eh, it was fine I guess. We were trying out this place as opposed to our standard OK Noodle to compare the hand pulled noodles. I didn’t mind the noodles here but I didn’t like them nearly as much as OK’s. The texture is fine and the sauces okay. The dumplings were not particularly to my liking… skins a little too thick. As with most of the Southeast Asian cuisine around here, everything is very affordable and the portions generous. Not a bad place to go but with so many options I prefer other places around here.

Been here a few times with both my Chinese and non-Chinese friends and everyone loved their dumplings! That says a lot! Their dumplings are big; I can never finish the entire plate. It’s better to come with friends so that you can order a few different flavors and share the dishes. Depending on how hungry you are, you might even have some leftover dumplings to take home for the next meal! They hand roll their dumpling skin and noodles; you can see the chef busy kneading the dough through the glass window inside the kitchen. The first time I went a year ago, their dumplings flavors were a little bland. Now, that’s not necessarily a bad thing as that would mean to me that they didn’t add MSG in their meat. You can always add chili or soy sauce, which are readily available on each table. However, I would have enjoyed it better if they can season the meat a little better(not with MSG though). The following few times I went, I did notice that the flavors of their dumplings were improved, although still sort of light in flavor. I guess I can never compare these dumplings with my mom’s home made dumplings, which always took a lot of work for her to make the fillings. Given what we have here, their dumplings are pretty good and the service is usually prompt and good. Their beef noodle soup was huge too and beef was cooked very well too. In terms of menu they have a lot more selection than, say, Ding Ding Dumplings in Fremont. Best part is they have pictures on the wall, which is helpful in picking the dishes to order. They also have frozen dumplings you can purchase by bag, which are fairly inexpensive as well. I would definitely bring my friends here when they are hungry for dumplings and hearty Chinese noodles soup.

So I’ve been here twice already. The inside still looks like a Quicklys. I love the glass windows so you can see the workers actually making the dumplings and hand pulling all the noodles. Kudos to them, I’m amazed they don’t have arthritis from doing that every single day. The first time I came, we got the pig ears, pickled cucumbers, and onion pancake as appetizers then our two plates of dumplings came. The pig ears and cucumbers were good, the onion pancake was on the fluffier side and I can do without that next time. The dumplings were so good I ordered a frozen bag to go, and it’s just as good made at home. Leave them in the freezer and when you’re out of food at home boil up some of those bad boys and you’re good to go. The second time I came I had a change to try the hand pulled noodles and it’s good. Definitely tastes fresh. And we of course got a order of the dumplings as well. I noticed they had the rolled pancake with beef inside that I’ve only seen at Liang’s Kitchen, so I ordered the sesame pancake stuffed with Marinated beef, it was good but not the one I was imagining… I’ll have to ask them next time which one that is.

******************* 1457 ****************** Unilocal did it right again on King of Dumplings. My parents and I came in for lunch. The beautiful and tall waitress speaks Mandarin to me. We were seated promptly at noon on Saturday. The place was half full. King of Dumplings offers Tianning, Changzhou, Jiangsu cuisine from China, near Shanghai. The food is lighter, not oily, cleaner taste, and healthier. While viewing all the photos of the dishes on the wall, my parents and I were ohhh and arrrr on what we saw. However, the best experience for us was watching the people making dumplings and hand pulled noodle fresh. It can’t get any fresher than that. Watching them do their arts, make our lunch so much better. — Hand pulled noodle stir-fried w/beef, shrimp, chicken, and veggies was very tasty. — Xiao Long Bao, with pork dumplings soup was good and flavorful. Perfect ginger aroma and fatty tasty good in the broth. — Boiled Dumplings of pork, shrimp, chive, 12 pieces for only $ 7.95, it was a nice plate to share. — Beef stew w/hand pulled noodle soup and Pok Choy was very nice. The broth got deep flavor. The beef was tender. The noodle texture was perfect. — Pok Choy and mushroom stir fried was nice and light. Service was attentive. They got busier by 1pm and a lot of to go orders. They also ship frozen dumplings to you. For all the dishes we ordered, it was less than $ 50 for 3 of us and plenty of food to take home. King of Dumplings is a great place to bring your family here, good food, cheap eat, and good service.

The hand-pulled noodle restaurant in NYC destroyed my view of all other hand-pulled noodle places and I still yet to find one in the East Bay just like it. I know there are many in the city but I need to find one here! I love freshly made soft hand-pulled dumplings and noodles! I say that this place was rated ok by others but I still had to try it. I guess after trying it here, I was pretty disappointed in this place to supposedly get fresh hand-pulled noodles. Maybe, cuz it was towards the end of the night @6:30pm. The tables only offered three sauces: soy sauce, hot sauce and a vinegar w/soy sauce which was not very good. I was looking for a dumpling sauce already with our dumplings but it didn’t come with it. The place was not very clean. I can tell many local customers do come here though. 0_o We ordered: 1) Onion chives pancake(greasy and needs sauce; not tasty by itself) 2) won ton soup(broth was not good but only ok) 3) Bean paste noodles(noodles was too think n bean paste flavor was ok) 4) special dumplings(pork /shrimp)(this was good but wrapping was too thick & not soft or fresh tasting) 5) Pork dumplings(this was good but wrapping was too thick & not soft or fresh tasting) 6) hot tea(not strong; needed more herbs) They had two service staff ladies, one lady cleaning tables and one guy just grinding some veggies in the back sitting staring at everyone. Not much for friendly good service. Our lady server was always in a rush. She only came to our table once. After we were done, I went to the cashier to pay as no one came to look at us so we can signal to pay. I see that they sell the dumplings frozen after making the noodle dough fresh probably earlier in the day and that is how the noodles tasted, coming from frozen food. I was hoping to buy some after trying it here. I guess back to the drawing board for serviced fresh hand-pulled noodles…

Good dumpling house in the Newark-Fremont area if you’re in the mood! They make well… dumplings of all varieties, though their noodle soups are good also(try the beef noodle soup)! Service is excellent, though this place can be a bit hard to find seeing as the popping restaurants are on the opposite side of this complex. Definitely order some boiled dumplings(beef and carrot are a favorite of mine) and you won’t regret it!

Tried out King of Dumplings in an old Quickly store in Newark, behind the Taco Bell, near Newark High School. I got a few things: xlb — soup dumplings. 6 small dumplings, not very juicy. Potstickers — pretty good, 6pcs nicely pan-fried string beans — came with some strips of fried tofu. Tasted ok. beef noodle soup — noodles were long and delicious, homemade & fresh, beef was tender. Some bok choy in there. Too much soup. Next time I’m getting noodle dish without soup. My bill for those 4 dishes was $ 28 before tip. You can charge it. I will be back to try more dishes!

The hot weather brought my family and I out to try dumpling king. We were attracted to this place because they make their own dumplings and noodles. We were seated immediately when we arrived at 6pm for dinner. However, I can see it getting busy as the store isn’t too big. We ordered 2 of their hand pulled noodle soups with the addition of pork tendon, onion pancake, and beef pancake. Sadly, the noodles were either sitting in the broth for too long or overcooked. Had a soggy texture to it. The broth was light and low on the MSG, which I liked. Only complain is they give you very minimal pieces of meat and vegetables. The pancakes were nothing special, more oily than I wanted it to be. The beef pancake was skimpy on beef which kind of ruined the dish. Pork tendon was tender, but had too much sesame oil for my liking. Overall, an alright place for dinner if you’re lazy. We also ordered some of their handmade dumplings to go in their freezer. Those were pretty good and they give plenty!

This place can be pretty intimidating to non-Chinese speakers/readers because… –the restaurant sign is in Chinese –the windows are covered in Chinese specials. But once you get over that and walk inside, you’ll see how inviting it is. It’s an open-kitchen but not in that trendy way. I think they just want you to see that they are in fact hand stretching the noodles and hand making the dumpling skins. Even if you didn’t see it, you can tell when you eat the food. Beef noodle soup had a very clean, herbal-y, and non-greasy broth. Noodles were so fresh. Beef chunks weren’t abundant but the star of the show is really the noodles anyway. I also like the bean paste noodles, dumplings and veggies with shiitake mushrooms. Everything was not overly heavy – an attribute I appreciate much when eating out now. Garlicky hot sauce is just like House of Dumplings’ in Union City. I can see this being a go-to spot for dinner because it’s just really good, homemade-like Chinese food.

When it comes to being the true king of the Bay Area dumpling throne, King of Dumplings still has some catching up to do. At a family gathering a few weeks ago, my cousin’s wife told my mom about King of Dumplings. It just so happened that we were in the Newark area last night and we decided to give them a try. We entered the restaurant at 7:00pm and were greeted by the servers immediately. We were seated at one of the window tables and the server brought us hot tea and menus. As I looked around, I noticed an old Quickly menu still hung on the wall. The old counter area was remodeled into a noodle and dumpling prep area. Chinese New Year decorations(fai chun) were all over the place. The spaciousness of the restaurant made me feel very comfortable. Their menu offers a wide array of options such as dumplings, hand-pulled noodles, northern Chinese dim sum, regular dishes etc. Since we were too hungry, we decided against ordering regular dishes. Here’s what we got: — Pork Elbow(#6): thinly sliced marinated pork hock served cold. The fat melted away during the cooking process, leaving only the skin and meat. Great to get as an appetizer. 4 stars out of 5. — Spicy Beef Tendon(#15): thinly shaved beef tendon mixed with chili oil and topped with chopped cilantro. Personally, I’d like more cilantro in the dish. It was decent, but not the best I’ve had. 3 stars out of 5. — Pork and Napa Cabbage Dumplings(#18, 12 in an order): dumpling skins were at the right thickness. The filling was seasoned very well. 4 stars out of 5. — Xiao Long Bao(#32, 6 in an order): the pork filling was adequately juicy, but the skins were too thick. I also found one with torn skin in our order. Improvement needed. 2.5 stars out of 5 — Multi-Layer Onion Pancake(#35, aka cong yu bing): it was nicely done. Crispy on the outside and I could see the layers on the inside. The chef did a great job controlling the burner fire. Personally I’d like just a little bit more salt in it. 4 stars out of 5. — Chao Ma Mian: the hand-pulled noodles were chewy, but everything else in this dish failed big time. The soup tasted like Shin Ramyun soup base. I counted four pieces of beef and three tiny pieces of squid-like object in the dish. They had no taste to them. Epic failure! 1 star out of 5. — Stir-fried Hand-Pulled Noodles with Chicken, Beef, and Shrimp: again, the noodles were well made. They were stir-fried with chicken, beef, shrimp, and julienned vegetables. Everything tasted great. 5 stars out of 5. The service we got was good. Servers were very polite and friendly. My mom struck up a conversation with one of them and they had a grand olé time chatting about beef tendon of all things. One of them did forget to bring us water that we had requested. She later realized she had forgotten about it and apologized to us. That’s fine with me. No harm done. The entire meal was about $ 55(with T/T). Pretty inexpensive meal. Overall, this place gets 3 stars from me. Despite certain dishes not meeting my expectations, I’d still go back just for the dumplings. If you want to give this place a try, just stay away from the Chao Ma Mian and you will be fine. TIPS: — They have frozen dumplings for sale. 25 dumplings cost about $ 8-$ 9 — There is no English sign on the outside. Look for the Quickly sign — Tons of parking on site

Mom and pop kinda shop. Everything is made in-house. You literally see them kneading, wrapping, etc etc while you’re eating. They offer frozen dumplings that you can steam yourself if you’re not looking to dine there. It’s okay though, the wrappers were a little too thick for my liking and what I’m used to. Pork/chives/shrimp and pork/cabbage dumplings were moist and juicy on the inside, but the wrappers just didn’t do it for me.

These guys excel at busting out delicious dumplings and xiao long baos. I remembered my bf and I ordered 3 – 4 rounds of dumplings/xiao long baos and ate ALLOFIT in one sitting. Yes they were that good. The prices are incredibly reasonable for the portion and taste you’ll be getting. The foods tasted authentic and homemade without being located in a dirty hole in the wall location. The hot sauce on the table was AMAZING, spicy, chunky, and flavorful. I drenched my dumplings and xiao long baos with them. The service was absolutely fantastic, the ladies were attentive and fast. I have no complaints about this place. This place by far has the best dumplings and xiao long baos in the area. We will be back here more often! They also sell frozen dumplings to bring home, which I will probably end up purchasing in the near future!
