I love Gujarati & Kathiawadi food. So, when I’d heard that Jay Bharat, of the same chain as the one in Artesia had opened up the Bay area, I dashed with my husband and a couple of our friends to check it out. But alas, it was nowhere close to what I had experienced in Artesia. And even when I was growing up in India amongst my Gujju bretheren. Location wise, it’s not difficult at all to find this place. It’s located right next to the Indian store off Cedar Blvd near the Mall. The style of ordering is that you find a table, you walk up to the cashier and place your order. Ideally this place is known for their Thalis, so do check those our first and foremost. My girlfriend and I opted for the Kathiawadi Thali, my husband opted for a Gujju thali and our other friend chose to stick to a plate of kachoris and samosas. We were able to sample a variety of curries across our thalis and the undhiyo definitely stood out as the best. The other sabzi of the day was a bell pepper besan(gram flour) stir fry that was super dry. The dal that came with lacked flavor, it was neither sweet nor spicy. It should be on the sweeter side usually. The masala rice in the Kathiawadi thali was great, but super oily. My husband opted for the roti, which was perfect. My bajra rotla was super dry and difficult to eat. The kachoris were good and the samosa was very nice too. I would recommend their kachoris for sure. The chutneys that came with the samosa and kachori were a sham though. Way too small a quantity for the amount you order. We had to ask for more. Jay Bharat also has an awesome selection of sweets. Infact, they are also known for their sweets. So, definitely grab some on your way out, especially the rasmalai. Overall, our experience was very average. And if you are getting the thali, I would recommend you share it with one other person or starve yourself the night/day before.

On more than one occasion, the food served here was not hot. Not even warm actually. In agreement with all of the other reviews here that talk about how the owner/lady throws around her«I-dont-care» attitude. I just dont feel welcome at this place, and would not go here even if this were the only restaurant that was left on earth.

Great service, good food. Clean facility and for a change, clean restrooms in an Indian restaurant!

Nothing great about this, food is below average, very expensive compared to other Indian restaurants in Fremont and the quantity is baby food. Has good parking lots, service is sub standard and poor ambiance.

This place could be better if run the American way and not the indian sleazy way. The owner manager is cheap but understands the money lingo really well. Service is shotty. Food is average and nothing to brag about. This place lacks class. I would go back if they change their attitude.

Its between a 3 or 4 star. Pros: + Good location with decent amt of parking slots + Good taste + price on the menu looks attractive. But qty you get is awfully little. + plenty of options to choose from + quesadilla options are very refreshing to see in an Indian restaurant. Cons. — very little qty n you end up buying more items. — chutney n other sauce on the side they provide is Very little.

I’m a big fan of Gujarati food. Although they serve decent Gujarati food. Its not up to Bay Area standards compared with other Gujarati food you get in South Bay

Authentic Gujarati food that is always fresh, made on site and tasty. The large thalis are exceptionally good value, although they are very heavy. The chaats(my favourite is Papdi Chaat) is one of the best I have tasted in the area and service is quick. Chaats are delivered as soon as they are made, so papa’s are crisp. The Kulfi is top-notch. The only thing I did not like was the patras that I thought were a little dry. The only reason for the 4 stars is the weird opening hours and in busy hours, you can wait a while to get a seat. Nonetheless, I would wait just to eat there.

There’s a little bit of everything here: chaat, dosa, thali, samosas and a bunch of other things. I would say they’re all okay but you can definitely get better versions of those items at places that specialize in them(there are plenty in the tri-city). But if you’re in the area and want to a place that has it all, Jay Bharat suffices and the people are friendly there as well. My favorite item was the cheese dosa. It wasn’t the best I’ve had but this one had sharp cheddar in it so it’s like an Indian grilled cheese, and who doesn’t like grilled cheese? I wasn’t a fan of the two dips and the sambar was room temperature. My favorite place for dosas is still Ganesh Bhavan which is only a couple miles away.

I have not seen a more arrogant manager/owner. After waiting 25 minutes I was told that the sabji I ordered is not available. I asked why they would not tell me when I placed the order. The answer from the lady, «you can cancel the order. « No apologies. All this from a restaurant that sells vegetables and Daals that are rumored to be cooked in LA.

I don’t get it. How has this place won awards and all. We ordered bombay vada pav and it came out as cold vada in a burger bun. Seriously? Felt like the stuff was microwaved as bun was knitted with the vada. Pav bhaji is served with hotdog buns. Do they not know, we can buy real pav too. I was not expecting that as there is a huge difference in a pav and a bun. Very disappointing. The actual bhaji was good but I had to enjoy it with a spoon rather than with an actual pav. Dahi puri came out looking very yummy but upon tasting, the puri’s felt stale. They had a very bad after taste and I felt bad for not able to eat that. The kathiyawadi thali is very good as you get to try out various food items. Shrikhand is really good for dessert. Rich and creamy, as it should be. Just wish they would fix their game. I had a bitter experience overall. Definitely I’ve experienced better.

Updating my review for subsequent visits… the place retains a solid 4 stars. By now, we’ve ordered several more items, including samosas, bhel puri, and katchoris. Everything was actually quite good! The samosas reninded me of a more homemade style — both in the wrapper snd filing. At $ 4.99 for 4 samosas, it was priced much better than many other restaurants. Definitely a thumbs up! The bhel puri was decorated with each ingredient in a spiral fashion requiring a bit of mixing once it gets to your table. Definitely a different presentation, but kudos for doing things a bit out of the ordinary! Again, at $ 4.99, great pricing for the quantity. We got katchoris to-go one day — 2 large pieces for $ 4.99. I thought thr pricing for this item was a bit high, but then again, it’s not everyday that you find a reataurant dishing up this treat! The flavor was great, and the ingredients were neatly and individually packed to assemble once we got home. All in all, the dinner was already great and the snacks are equally so! Definitely a place to continue returning.

Me and some of my friends decided to try Gujarati food at Jay Bharat. I think this is the only restaurant in bay area that presents Gujarati food with such a great detail and authentication as it had separate Gujarati and Kathiawadi thali. Food Quality: Maybe we went with too much expectation but most of us didn’t much like the food quality as it tasted dry. Specifically all the curries were dry(Bhindi and Undhiu) that we got. Also, their Rotlas(pearl millet grain bread) were very dry and we had hard time finishing. Maybe the curries should have some extra oil or gravy. Food Variety: As briefly mentioned above, they have really great food variety. You will find most of the authentic Gujarati food here in different variations(mini thali or individual platter or full thali) Price: The price is very reasonable and I think it’s atleast 10−15% lower than most other restaurants. Must Try: Jeera Chaas(butter milk) and Shrikhand

This is a thankless little place, not because the food is bad. It is thankless because the owners(the gujju lady) have no idea what customer service is all about. They usually have a few variety of vegetables to choose from, but the last time they had fewer and this time they had no choice. And their response is that’s all that’s left. What do u mean left? You just opened for the evening 5 minutes ago!!!(We went at 5:05pm). And the worst part, her attitude was«take it or leave it». I admit your food is great(worth 5 stars) but your customer service is absolute crap. I pay for the food, lady, you don’t give it to me for free.

This is a cool place for Indian snacks and chaats. I was shopping in the nearby Indian grocery store and thought I should check in for the chaats. Price is reasonably good! Ordered the Bhel Puri and Mango Lassi. Bhel puri was good and the quantity was ok. Lassi was good but nothing great. Haven’t tried the other stuff. Will update the review once I do that!

Love this place — took the kids after swimming at the Silliman Center and we ordered a ton of great stuff! The guy behind the counter checked in on us to see what we thought of the meal, then made some recommendations for our next visit. We’ll be back!

This review is for their 15 pack rotis for $ 5. The rotis are so thin and small, that we felt cheated when we opened the aluminium pack. Some rotis were as big as my palm. DONT buy rotis from them. Go to Rasoi Express/Cash ‘n’Carry instead.
