Block Island has lots of stores that sells trinkets, crummy t-​shirts, hats, mugs and the usual tourist stuff. However it also has some cool stores that sell more interesting and creative items. Block island Trading Company is one of those stores.
Block Island Trading Company a relatively new addition to the line of stores on Water Street and has a impressive collection of different types of art and island oriented gifts and items. Some fascinating jewelry, sculptures, clocks, glass, games and even clothing, frequently with a nautical or island theme.
They also have some of the usual and not so usual beach stuff but their emphasis is definitely the more artistic and hand made type of work. We saw some very cool hand embroidered pillows that look like they took forever to make. My artsy wife and her friends had a great time looking and buying gifts for others and themselves.
The friendly and talkative woman working there told us that like most of the island they close for off season, but they do have a web site that can be perused and used during the cold months when the need to spend some money hits.
The prices reflect the higher and creative nature of the work and this is an easy place to burn through a lot of money really quickly. But if you are looking for something other than the usual t-​shirts and trinkets and want to see some cool and different type of souvenirs or art, Block Island Trading Company will certainly satisfy.
