First time here. Awesome food & great service. I loved this place. Atmosphere was great. Friendly staff & owner. Will definitely be back for the experience.

I had the Hawaiian schnitzel. Good meal, good serving size I split this plate with my daughter I chose potatoes and she chose the bacon wrapped green beans which I can assume we’re delicious because I didn’t even get a bite. The Bartender was very helpful with their great beer selection. I can’t wait to go back I heard they have live music on the weekends.

I LOVE this place! It is a quaint little German restaurant and that’s exactly the feel you get when you walk in. The staff is friendly and the food is AMAZEBALLS! I’ve tried many items on the menu and I’m very pleased EVERYTIME! I think it’s the Texas schnitzel that I love most(traditional schnitzel with jalapeños OMGYAAASSSSSPLEASE). Portions are large and prices are resonable! Hands down favorite place in NB! I live in SA and used to love going to the Old Heidelberg when it was still open. The Friesenhaus had very big shoes to fill as its replacement in my heart and they do JUST that every single time!

The place is nice and clean but really needs to invest in a new air conditioner because that made my experience really miserable… It’s 95 degrees outside so when I come to pay for good food I want to feel cool and comfortable while eating… it was way too hot in the place

All the food was good. 4 people shared 2 dishes and an appetizer. Prices were a little high but reasonable for quality.

I came here back in the day because my friend chose this place. I was excited to try new food, but I was not expecting this. There was nothing special about the food and frankly I just didn’t like it at all. The flavors didn’t sit well with me. Usually I’m willing to branch out and eat different things, but I just couldn’t eat this. The flavor was off and the food was dry. The sauerkraut was the only thing that had much flavor. Other than that, everything else was bland or seasoned in such a way that I couldn’t eat it. The service was friendly, but nothing special. The restaurant itself looked old and run down. i won’t be coming back here.

Very disappointed. I had been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally stopped in for lunch. I should have gone somewhere else! Good service is the only reason I give them 2 stars. I had the sausage sampler plate and nothing was very good. The smoked knack wurst was not very flavorful and barely warm. The weisswurst was tasty but cold. The smoked brat was hot but VERY salty. Cabbage was ok and the sauerkraut was also ok but had pineapple in it. I didn’t care for that and to be honest, I don’t know if that is authentically German or not. Prices are high and certainly not reflective of the food. Lunch cost me $ 20 and as I said before, I should’ve gone and gotten a burger for half the price. Probably won’t be back.

The waitress was lovely. The food inedible. I ordered the meatballs and they came smothered in sauce and capers. At first bite I gagged, it was like a punch in the face. My potato salad was good, but again drowning in sauce. Cucumber salad was fine. My fiancé ordered an entrée that was essentially beef covered in gravy. We both ordered soups. My beer and potato soup was just beef broth with potatoes, and his pea soup was good but the ham looked«fake» or processed, not home-cooked. We barely ate any of it, and had to pay like $ 60. We should have walked out when they served us kid-snack pretzels in lieu of bread while we waited for our order. If anyone that works there reads this, just serve one hot pretzel for the table to share, it is so lazy to empty a bag of pretzels on a plate for your customers.

Location — Terrible parking on a busy main thoroughfare. Lot floods and constantly has standing water. This building has been numerous failed businesses, and very little was done to make it look less«Texas Country Hippie» than the previous establishment. Definitely NOT a historical Texas German building. Attitude — Rude, gruff, and seemingly inconvenienced by customer existence. Don’t really understand the attitude, but there is very little that you can ask for that will not be frowned upon. Visible tattoos, sleeveless shirts, and unkempt look among the waitstaff(and yes, it was a woman). Food — Simply awful and not authentic German, unless canned peas and carrots, cheap condiments, and up-charges for everything(German mustard??) is considered authentic German. Cold, bland, and disappointing. Beer — Excellent selection, but with a lecture about all that is wrong with the United States from the Owner’s perspective of how superior Germany and South America are. Really? Why are you here? One star for the Beer(but bring your earplugs).

Mediocre German food. Lunch cost $ 100 for Four adults… Up charges were suggested by the waitress, however she failed to inform us that I am a little bit of mustard cost $.90 each. It was approximately 1 tablespoon of mustard. We got the sweet and spicy and eat she was $.90 and hardly enough for one serving. Waitress suggested gravy for the kids spätzle, it cost $ 2.50… Lastly, she suggested ice cream for the apple strudel, and again failed to let us know that it was $ 2.50 for what was less than a child’s scoop at Baskin-Robbins… we are not opposed to at sailing, however tell the customer when you upsell that it’s going to cost extra…

Authentic fresh German cuisine by a family from Friesland Germany. The food was so good and fresh tasting. I’ve never had such fresh tasting sausage — I especially loved the herbal sausage. Excellent place to come especially if you want good vegetables to go with your main course! Moderately priced considering today’s economy!

I’m not typically a sauerkraut kind of person so I don’t branch out and get items like the Ruben off the menu, but when my son ordered it and didn’t eat it, I refused to let it go to waste. The Ruben was amazing! It had perfectly crispy toasted rye bread which was slathered with the most amazing Ruben sandwich sauce, the meat and kraut and sauce were not layered as a typical Ruben but instead they were mixed together in perfect matrimony. The service was great, our waitress was very paired with my 3 young kids ego couldn’t decide on what to eat, she was definitely not German but she waa a good waitress. The prices of the goods were slightly higher than anticipated, with the average non-lunch-hour meal choosing in the range of 13.50−17.70. But the probs were large enough on the lunch menu that we were able to get our fill. Would definitely eat here again. Would love too be able to try out their bar area next time.

Stopped in this evening to try out this«authentic» German restaurant. Our server was nice, but the food could use some improvement. I ordered the jägerschnitzel with mixed vegetables and bratkartoffeln. My wife ordered a similar schnitzel(I forget which one) which mixed vegetables and tomato salad. We both noticed that the mixed vegetables were canned. Not cool. Taste and texture-wise, there was nothing good about the vegetables. The schnitzels were also overcooked and over-sized. They were more like a chicken fried steak as opposed to a true schnitzel. See my photos from this visit and you’ll get the idea. Traditional schnitzel should be about ¼″ thick when pounded out prior to cooking. The bratkartoffeln was good. My wife did not care for the tomato salad. We also had appetizers in the form of beer and potato soup and potato pancakes. Both were tasty. Here’s the problem. This place charges $ 16.80 per plate for the schnitzels, which include two sides. If you’re going to charge $ 16.80 for an entrée, then don’t serve canned mixed veggies consisting of corn, carrots, and peas. Between appetizers and our main course, we were at $ 64(before tip), and we didn’t have any alcoholic beverages. Just soda and water. TLDR: If you are looking for a nice German meal prepared in an authentic German fashion, skip this place. There are better German restaurants out there.

There may be some confusion with Friesenhaus as they had another location in town that has either closed or moved to South Sequin and I-35 which is where we dined after discovering it driving by. New Braunfels is very German so schnitzel became a must-try for us. And Friesenhaus didn’t disappoint. The Lumberjack pork schnitzel comes topped with fried onions and mushrooms plus two sides. Mine were sauerkraut and potato salad. Lisa’s were cucumber salad and German potatoes. The chicken schnitzel is also available. The portions were a good size, particularly the sides. The schnitzel was covered with a crisp breading which while reasonably tasty benefitted from the addition of the toppings and the sauerkraut. There’s also a version of the dish that comes with a mushroom gravy, which is also available separately. I might try that next time. The sauerkraut interestingly contained bits of pineapple and the potato salad similarly contained bits of apple. Interesting additions that I liked. For desert we had the apple strudel with ice cream. Delicious but with more raisins than I would have liked(which would have been none). The service was excellent. Our server seemed as though she was sincerely interested in the enjoyment of our selections which was nice. Prices were a little high with each entry coming in at $ 16.99. The small scoop of ice cream add-on was $ 2.50. Not show stoppers but worth noting. We recommend Friesenhaus for good authentic German cuisine when in the New Braunfels area.

I must say, the new location doesn’t have the same German feel as the old place. The menu seems to be half of what it was and a lot of it is Americanized. I feel the German food part is small. The tap beer selection seemed to also be cut in half which was very disappointing. Also, their German potato salad tasted like something from HEB… definitely not German, and I love German potato salad. The food was delicious and the portions were huge! You definitely got your money’s worth and the server was very friendly.

Coworker and I ate lunch. Waitress was very pleasant and helpful. We both had the lunch specials. He got the cod, with bacon wrapped green beans and fried mashed potato log. He enjoyed his meal. I got the sausage plate which only had 1 smoked brat which was disappointing. Dry and tough. Red cabbage had for me too much cinnamon and clove. The best part of my meal was the German fried potatoes. Meals were $ 9.00 which I felt was rather high. Do not plan on a return visit. Giving 3 stars for his meal and good service.

BESTBEERINTHEWORLD!!! Ok I don’t say that lightly if you want the closest thing to drinking a liter of beer in Bavaria but can’t afford the plane ticket this is the place for you. The food is good too. The new building is nice. The service is more German style if you want something ask for it but don’t expect them to hover over your table a fact which I appreciate a lot. The family that owns it are all German have really put fourth an effort to keep this place authentic.

This place was delicious for traditional American-German fair. We stopped on the fly and when we are back in the area will certainly be back. My boyfriend had the Hawaiian schnitzel and it was«bomb.com». I’m a vegetarian so I had the Ruben without any corned beef and hooooly moly that sauerkraut was perfecto!(And our server was so polite and attentive!)

Food was blegh. I ordered the lumberjack snitzel and it was overly fried almost burnt. My wife ordered the Hawaiian snitzel. It also was burnt and topped canned pineapple. Served with lukewarm fried potatoes. We will not be back. The entire meal was over $ 50 and not worth it.

Was a huge fan of old location. This location not as family friendly. Lg bar crowd. Dance area for kids and adults gone. Still good German music Schnitzel was over cooked. Mixed veg out of can. Red cabbage was way undercooked. Sausage came out just barely warm. We were so disappointed. Was our go to place when we visited here. That has changed

Why do restaurants not understand lighting for dinner. Bright like a breakfast place. Stole any ambiance that the wood floors and simple surrounding provide. Food was ok. Had the bratwurst. Had to ask for GERMAN must and and it is extra charge. Really, less than 1 once of mustard. GERMAN fiord? Service could use some help. Basic but no service style or courtesies. Was like a basic diner service. They can do better.

Really really good! If you like a little spice try the Texas schnitzel. The German potatoes are the best. Will be back for sure as they have many good looking selections on the menu !

Appalled by the behavior of the fellow«patrons» in the establishment and the lude behavior the owners, manager, and waitstaff encouraged in the«bar» area. The food is less then par and the service is to be desired with the bland food. The food, service and atmosphere were a disappointment beyond words.

If you are looking for some outstandingly great German food in the I-35 corridor then give Friesenhaus your attention. They have moved into a new location so you may think as you walk up, «Is this a BBQ place?» but need not worry, there be German food in that there building. My husband is very fluent in German and we eat lots of German food throughout the year; he has eaten lots of traditional German food as well because of his heritage. Given this as a background, we were extremely excited when the waitresses, who were extremely polite and helpful, speak fluent German to us. We met the owner as well who spent a lot of time ensuring our experience was great. My husband said that the friendly service and German language made him feel back in Bavaria, Germany. As for the food: Outstanding. Everything was spiced correctly and cooked to perfection and the beer was good as well. The potato pancakes and curry wurst were GREAT! We were there on a Saturday night and there was live music which added to the atmosphere. Since they just moved into the new building they are still creating the atmosphere to include a beer garden in the back that when finished will be very good. Highly recommend this place!

Superb!!! The Texas Schnitzel is so good– creamy jalapeño gravy. Bacon wrapped green beans — yes! The fried potatoes taste like my grandma’s German potatoes. The Hunter schnitzel has mushroom and onion gravy. Can’t wait to go back and try something else!

We are long time downtown Friesenhaus lovers. We tried the new location tonight and were very disappointed. Staple foods missing from the menu, no German music playing, no German clothing, no German mustard. Our hearts are broken that we lost our favorite restaurant and we won’t be back.

They have reopened at 1050 S Seguin Ave. Menu has changed but the food is still very good! We would like them to bring back the gypsy schnitzel and the sausage and cheese appetizer. Location is really nice and there is lots of parking. They had only been open 3 days at they new location when we ate here so they didn’t have everything available on their menu. We split the Texas Schnitzel with German fried potatoes and cucumber salad. Portions are smaller but it was enough for both of us for lunch. $ 20 plus tip and it included one soda. I almost always get water in restaurants since most restaurants don’t know how to get a good mix on their soda. If you are looking for a good German meal you should try it! We will be back, we will just will give them a chance to work out the kinks.

If you are looking for good German food, find another place. We were excited to try a new German restaurant in a German town. It is clean, and there is live music on the weekend. The jumbo pretzel was the best thing we had, but we were charged extra for the tiny little soufflé cup of mustard. 2 of us ordered schnitzel, and they were both burnt. One had gravy, so it was tolerable. The other was dry, and completely inedible. It was sent back, and the waitress said she would tell the chef. We did not order another entrée to replace it, and it was not taken off our check. We were fully charged for an inedible entrée. The potato soup was greasy, as were the potatoes. The spaetzle was bland. I, personally, had the sausage sampler platter. I was pleased with my entrée, but we will not be back.
