Went to Lake Spaulding July 18, 19, 20, 2015. It was like camping in Wal-Mart Parking lot. Cramped, congested, and people and the camp host are rude. The fishing is poor, trout and Salmon few. One Pike though. The camp host, «Gabor» runs the place like a PG&E concentration camp. The lake and surrounding is beautiful but, we will never go again on a weekend! Never!

We went out to Lake Spaulding to paddleboard in late May. Such a beautiful lake although the wind picked up and made for a tough paddle back! Along the shorelines the water is crystal clear. We were greeted by a nice gentleman named Gabor who helped tell us the best place to launch the paddleboards. There are some nice campsites near the boat launch and a few picnic tables in the parking lot. The lake is great for paddleboarding, kayaking and for small fishing boats but there aren’t that many places along the shore that are beachy. Just a few spots with nice sand near the boat launch. There are a ton of other lakes nearby too.

This was the first time we visited the Lake Spaulding rec area. We were scouting out camping spots and decided to stop and have a quick sandwich. We stepped out of our truck and were immediately met by a Russian attendant asking us what we were doing there that day. We told him we were going to grab a sandwich from our ice chest and check the place out to see if we want to come back to camp. Basically after a quick conversation we had to pay $ 7 to park and eat our sandwich as we walked to the boat ramp and then left. We were seriously there less that 20 minutes. We felt totally hustled. While we were walking around we saw him meet 2 other people who were doing the same thing before they even got out of their vehicle. It was very ridiculous. He also charged some people with a double jet ski trailer twice the boat launch rate because he said there were 2 jet skis instead of he normal single launch rate other places charge. He told some other people if they wanted to park to use the bathroom they had to pay. We won’t be going back!
