Got takeout from here and was happy overall with the Crab Rangoons, Pork Fried Rice, and Hot & Sour Soup. Very hard to find great soup so very impressed there. Clean space as well– Will definitely be back!

Service is always great! Small place but done just right. Sushi always fresh and excellent, best Spicy Tuna Maki I have found in the area. Taken-out and dined-in. Great place.

This restaurant serves Japanese and Chinese food. The food was mediocre. Because of this, the food here is quite expensive for what it is worth. It isn’t anything to go crazy for or make a special trip for. I would suggest going to Needham to eat more authentic Taiwanese food and to Waltham for Chinese food. The thing I liked about this restaurant is that the service time is very fast, just like any Chinese restaurant. If you are somewhat in a hurry and want something light, this is a good place to grab food. As many reviews have said, this place is not authentic.

Read 1 star because that’s the default. I’d have preferred to not give this place a star at all. I ordered Vegetable Chow Mein which came with a side of plain rice and a spring roll. What showed up was 1 plate with rice piled on half a side and vegetables in a gloppy white sauce on the other. I’m no expert with Chow Mein and even googled it to be sure. Nope, that was most certainly not what it should look like. I gingerly took a bite only to find out there was not taste to it. No sign of the spring roll. When I questioned the hostess about why my meal did not look nor taste like Chow Mein, she insisted it was supposed to be this way. She offered to bring me something else if I wanted to order it. Her lack of concern could not have been more obvious. So definitely not what I wanted to hear. I was there with a friend and didn’t want to wait for another possibly questionable dish to show up so I decided to make the best of it by improvising my meal with soy and hot sauce. No spring roll yet. At checkout I saw the bill with a charge for the spring roll. Needless to say, I asked that it be removed. The hostess brought me a takeout box with a spring roll instead. I declined. It may be that this was a one off. Will I give them a try again? Most likely not, there are plenty of choices around.

Always skeptical of a chinese restaurant that also attempts japanese food. the chinese food was okay — not a whole lot of flavor. The shangai bok choy was not seasoned with anything but we did get a large portion. the chicken soup with noodles was soooo bland even a bouillon cube in water would get more flavor.

Awesome restaurant! I come here daily and get the same thing(kappa maki(cucumber roll)), and I have never been disappointed. The food is fresh and creative and full of flavor. The restaurant has a pleasant environment and is very quiet. Very quick at serving, but still top notch quality. The servers are very nice and welcoming. I really love this place, and I recommend any Japanese food lovers to come check it out :) !

We ordered Kung pao chicken and shrimp dumplings. Kung pao chicken could have been more spicy. First time ever I found green peppers in Kung pao. It wasn’t bad but wsnt great either. Shrimp dumplings were fine. I’ve had better. The ambiance was good. Cozy tiny place. Best part was the pineapple cubes they served at the end of our meal. I will certainly visit again.

Really great food. We had a mix of Chinese and Japanese. Honestly, I’m pretty picky about general gaus chicken, and I found it to be exactly the way I like it. The hot and sour soup was great, but the miso soup left something to be desired. The sushi was fresh and we are definitely coming back :)

This restaurant provides excellent service, fresh and creative foods and a nice environment to eat in. I have always found the sushi to be very good and very fresh. The waitresses are very pleasant and have always treated me and my guests in a very welcoming manner. The prices are good. As a matter of fact I would have no issue paying a bit more due to the quality and freshness of the food.

My initial review was based on one delivery experience, so I decided to give this place another shot. I only order takeout now, but their sushi is GOOD. No complaints there. I still prefer my Chinese food elsewhere, but for the price, this is now my go-to sushi stop.

Food here is definitely less«Japanese» and more«Asian-American.» Not necessarily a bad thing if you’re a picky eater or aren’t a fan of spices/seafood, but it’s definitely not authentic fare. Despite the moderate prices, large menu, and interestingly-decorated interior, the food was lacking in flavor, and more fried/greasy/uncreative. The sushi was pretty standard. Fish didn’t taste particularly fresh on our visit, or featured imitation/pre-cooked seafood, the kind you’d expect to pick up at a local grocery market. I tried a «spicy beef» and rice dish, which was decent, but definitely not spicy and pretty greasy. My date tried an eel dish, which was lacking in flavor(one of the worst he’s tried). Next time, we’ll take our dinner plans elsewhere.

I’m obsessed with this place. As a sushi fanatic, moving back from California has led to many disappointing sushi experiences in the Boston area. Shanghai Tokyo is priced very well and has the most incredible selection of rolls. Do not miss the Golden Dragon roll. So happy to have this place near by. The staff is also incredibly friendly.
