Some places I like for their convenience. Others for their location. This place I like only for the convenience of its location. It’s directly across from Niko’s and Family Wash, and it’s as good a place as any to pop in for a six pack, some smokes or, if need be, a quick snack. Smoke Depot is one of the shadier little places of business in the area. In fact, you’ll probably want to keep driving and hit the Citgo if it’s particularly late at night. The staff is nice enough, and the area is coming along, so it really isn’t dangerous or anything. But keep in mind – this is still East Nashville. It may be gentrified, but there are some parts of town where it doesn’t matter what band you’re in or who you know at the Red Door. Any of us can still get mugged. That being said, Smoke Depot has pretty cheap beer and cigarettes(classy, right?). They also sell a few dozen«tobacco» pipes that I wouldn’t buy if my life depended on it. Though some of them are blown into interesting designs(a goose, for instance), they don’t look like they’d survive a one-foot drop. So if you’re having dinner at Family Wash and need to pick up a forty or some squares, Smoke Depot is fine. I’ll just leave it at that – fine.
