This is a small market as another reviewer mentioned, and not all of the produce is from their farm or even local.(Think bananas and avocados). However, the local stuff is generally really good. As summer to me means tomatoes, corn and peaches, I can personally attest to the quality of those. They have several varieties of tomatoes, including the popular Beefsteak and Bradley, and heirlooms like Purple Cherokee. They usually have Peaches and Cream and Silver Queen corn. The peaches are all freestone varieties, as far as I can tell. The melons smell good as well, and in mid-summer they have a good selection of shelled peas. Fall produce is pumpkins and squashes, which I have to admit I haven’t bought here. Pretty sure this isn’t organic produce, but not 100%. Doubt the non-local stuff is. They also carry some locally baked goods and a relish or two and a selection of flowers for the garden. As I said, I have always been very pleased with the produce I have gotten here. A full star of my review is for their location and convenience.

This particular Farmer’s Market is very small and operated by only one farm. Located in a back lot of Hillsboro High School across from the United States Post Office on Glen Echo Road, the Farmer’s Market has considerably less than any of the other markets in the city(12 South, East Nashville, and the main Nashville one). I am going to have to say that they should be happy that they enjoy a monopoly on this market. They have a limited selection of produce and I did not see any chance to buy proteins(e.g., meat) from them. Moreover, I have also never experienced a farmer’s market where the people running the market had absolutely no desire to help or sell me anything. Seriously, they were the most rude individuals ever. I mean, I have received better service and experienced better interpersonal relations shopping at Kroger AND even at Walmart than shopping with these people. The produce is fresh, but the people are awful(as is the selection). Seek a different market.

Located across from the Green Hills Post Office, this farmers market is open from April through October each year. They specialize in potted flowers, but also offer a great array of produce, including pumpkins tomatoes, apples, peppers, onions, sweet potatoes, okra, peaches, eggplant, and squash(depending on the season). Like most farmers markets, the prices and the quality are usually better than you’d get a a supermarket. But as far as I could tell, for the most part the Green Hills Market’s produce isn’t organic. Some of it may be local, but it’s definitely not exclusively local, unless they’ve started growing avocados and mangos in Tennessee. The staff is friendly, and I even saw one worker wearing overalls, just like a real farmer!(He was also smoking a cigarette while unloading flowers from a truck.) The Green Hills Market seems to have a loyal following, largely comprised of Belle Meade moms, which may be magnified by the fact that there’s a high school nearby.
