East Nashville Farmers Market

For its location and what it is, I would expect the East Nashville Farmers Market to have much higher of a profile on Unilocal.Maybe people haven’t realized that it’s moved yet? Not to take anything away from the other popular farmers markets in the metro, the very name of this one would suggest much more traction than it currently has (online).
Let’s change this.
The ENFM isn’t the largest in the metro but its convenient location and healthy diversity of vendors makes it a must-​try in your ‘urban chic, shop-​local’ crusades. I haven’t gotten to the part of farmers market shopping where I venture far past food so this review will focus on all the farm fresh goodies you can gobble up. To start off, make sure that you spend some quality time at the Delvin Farms booth. I have yet to venture out to College Grove and, truthfully, I don’t know if there’s much picking you can do onsite. So, it makes it all the more convenient that I can drive 15 minutes from my house and pick up ridiculously fresh produce. The farm reps are always jovial, helpful and impart a lot of knowledge. Thanks to them, I’ve gotten a good sense of when to buy what and to stay away from certain fruits during certain times of the year, least my eyes be tricked by what my mouth and stomach would soon discover. They taught me how to pick the right cantaloupe, when strawberries are in season (not for very long so buy a LOT when they are) and the differences between certain squashes. And, for the record, their strawberries are organic and incredible. Eat Like Kings Bakery will be your new favorite source of giant chocolate chip deliciousness. (found something non-​food related) Buy some rose soap or charcoal soap from Little Seed Farm (farmers markets have ruined me from ever buying non-​artisan soap). In true Nashville form/​fashion, there’s live music to bop around to, dogs & kids running unleashed, food trucks depending on the momentum of spending money to make people not just go home and serve up the fresh food they just bought, and hippies a’plenty (more hippies than hipsters, although they’re here as well). The Wednesday hours may not be advantageous for all, but for this East Nashvillian, they’re more than fine. I’ll see ya there from spring to fall.

I just love our community’s little Farmers Market. The number of vendors has really increased, and there is a delightful mix of offerings. Fresh juice, baked goods, plants to eat, and plants to take home. There are soaps, holistic goods, food trucks (varies time to time), and live music as well.
What I also appreciate is location. It’s right next to the playground at Shelby Park, so it’s delightful to be surrounded by other families as my daughter runs and plays, stopping back from time to time for a couple of fresh strawberries we just bought at the market, and then back to play again.
Farmers Market Season is one of my favorite times of the year.

The new location is very convenient to reach by bicycle, just at the end of the Shelby Bottoms Greenway in Shelby Park (next to the playground). And yes, accessible by cars too :-)
