Last night we dined again for Valentines Day, and Chef Yu delivered. We opted for the 3 course tasting and between the 3 of us(we had a visitor from NYC) we were able to try most of the choices. The oysters with the pomegranate were amazing, and the seared tuna with seaweed salad and roe was remarkable as well. I had the lobster entrée, which was cooked perfectly, and tried the steak entrée which was tasty. We tried all the desserts, and enjoyed all of them, but the banana crème brûlée was a real standout paired with the most amazing mango sorbet… How does one make a sorbet taste more mango-y than a fresh mango itself? Phenomenal. While the food was enjoyable, the service was a bit disjointed but somewhat expected on Valentine’s Day. Servers were pleasant, but may need some more experience. We will, of course, return.

Started with drinks upstairs(a great destination in and of itself). This led to our later evening dinner was quiet and quite wonderful. Attentive but not intrusive wait staff. The simple wedge salad was simple, but solid. The calamari had a surprising lightly sweet Asian twist that was delicious and made it memorable in the sea of calamari dishes in RI restaurants. The lobster roll(½ serving in the photo) also presented unexpected flavors, with wilted spinach, pistachios and pesto. I will be back. You should give it a try.

Ordered takeout on a Saturday night from this spot about a week ago. The burger was outstanding and the taco dinner was quite good as well. I plan on going very soon for drinks, it seems like an upscale place!

This little ’boutique hotel’ merely a stone’s throw from Aunt Carries down in Narraganset is a welcome shift from the norm in South County. I’ve been about three times in the much welcomed off season where you’ll find yourself one of less than a dozen people in the restaurant or upstairs bar. We usually go early for food and have hung out upstairs in one of their ‘Alcoves’ that can be rented(with a slight grimmace): «Enjoy a private space for you, your five favorite buds, and your team.» A sure-fire buzz-kill while sipping drinks and enjoying conversation to the booming ‘Hoots’, ‘Yeahs’, and claps of football fans nested in a ‘quiet’ alcove. That said, it’s a cozy space and it never hurts to have a gas fireplace glowing in the bar. In the restaurant you’ll find some nice touches like a heated bar top and view of the swimming pool but not the ocean since we’re surrounded by private homes and condos on the first level. You can tell they put in the work to create a refined yet unique atmosphere with purpose-built refinements. Being from ‘the beaches’, I’m not big on the M. Stewart upscale beach vibe with a table built like a surfboard or light fixtures that look like fishing(?) traps? Ok, cat’s going back in the bag… let’s get to the food! The staff is attentive and on-task. We’ve yet to experience any officiousness, attitude or snarkiness which is a thumbs up considering most of Chair 5 seems to be staffed by the 35 and younger set(I didn’t go around asking for i.d.‘s so it’s just a hunch on my part). The head chef, Basil Yu knows what he’s doing in the kitchen and was apparently enticed away from the Hotel Viking in Newport. He seems to favor juxtapositions of flavors and textures normally on par with places in the ‘the big city’ not a ‘beach bar/kitchen’ in Narragansett so kudos to him for pushing the envelope. Every dish is thoughtfully assembled and pleasing to the eye as well as the pallet. The pulled pork tacos stand out to me as did the root veggies and fries. The only drawback was an excess in saltiness I didn’t note on earlier visits. Desserts are one of Chair 5’s strongest suits! There’s a young pâtissier charged with creating some ‘tonguerotic’ plates that cannot be ignored. On our last visit, the special that night was a brownie sundae but not your average ‘ordered in’ assembly of component parts-this was concocted in-house. The brownies had a moist cakiness unlike the oft-frozen pucks you find at other places. The ice cream option was insanely creamy with dark chocolate or vanilla cream infused with just the right amount of fruit or sweetness. My guess is the fudge sauce was melted chocolate and not the insidious squeeze bottle of brown stuff from Pennsylvania. If you have time after a beach walk, show, or have just pulled into town for an overnight(wait, what am I saying? Don’t encourage the tourists!!) it might be worth stopping at Chair 5 for your closer or a quick bite and come away feeling sated and treated fairly in the wallet.

Great food, best wait staff ever, reasonable prices… we dined here last night to celebrate my friend’s birthday. The calamari was terrific, corn cobs excellent! Our dinners were good, too. Good fish tacos, burgers, and larger plates. Great portions to share. Menu and wine list are limited but there is something for everyone. Décor is very modern and hip, rooftop bar is on our go to list for a future visit! This would have been five stars but for the incredibly rude and super loud group that sat near us. The staff eventually moved our table to a different dining area which fixed the problem. We will be back to try more items from the menu.

Great experience. Attentive waitstaff, delightful décor, great cocktails, delicious food. We ate downstairs but there is also a really cool bar on the top floor. There are cozy coaches and an outdoor deck with beautiful views of the water. Much different than any other place around. A must try!

The family and I have eaten at just about every restaurant in the area. So we decided to give Chair 5 a try. The hotel décor is really nice and bright. They have a roof bar which have great views and a two little spots with a couch and TV(great to let the kids hang out while adults grab a drink at the bar). They do have a few kinks to work out. There is no system in place for letting you know when your table is ready. The restaurant is on main flr while bar is on 4th flr so you have to trust they will call you on cel once table becomes open. The wine selection was limited and a little pricey. They have a basic but really good kids menu(Mac n cheese was excellent). We ordered the calamari and kale/quinoa salad which both were phenomenal. My wife got the fish tacos and I got chicken platter. It was two fried chicken strips with corn bread, egg salad, and slaw. Cornbread was ok as was chicken. Slaw was good but for the price it was way too expensive. Should’ve went with fish tacos that were good. Overall it’s a great place with friendly wait staff so I would give them 4 out of 5 stars. They have to get a system for table waiting, more extensive wines and price accordingly. Even though it’s high season you can get less expensive drinks and main dishes elsewhere. Def will go back.

Amazing little gem. I guess they just opened, but love the food. We also stayed at the Hotel(The Break). Very well priced menu, great selection of local flair and beach gourmet good(hint of Asian influence). For as good as the food, ambiance and service was, very reasonably priced. There is also roof-deck bar. Only open until 10, but perfect for great food and drinks to wrap up the day! I expect places like this in Boston or NYC, not a in sleepy town like Naragansett. Loved it!

I went here last night on the first night that the rooftop bar was open, mainly to see the décor and the view. We ordered a cocktail from the drink menu that sounded great, but it took a very long time to arrive and when it came it was in a nice, but PUNY glass for $ 10.00. I think they will be smart enough to improve drink size because South County people aren’t dumb enough to come back time and time again for teeney-weenie drinks. It is a special-looking place, so the price isn’t out of line, but you can’t make people feel ripped off. Our waitress was very nice. So was the valet guy. They need to intersperse some little lights around the rooftop bar so people can read the menu or the waitress should being you a little flashlight when she brings you the menus. I will definitely go back and will order a beer if I look around and the other customers are still being served Patty Playpal-sized cocktails. Why would I go back? I think because the management will learn that this may fly for tourists who don’t know better, but once August is done, they might want to be known for having good drinks to go with the prices. The view? It was so dark due to it being late that we couldn’t see the ocean, but it was still fun to look down and see the positioning of the Bön Vue Inn & Aunt Carrie’s. You could also see inside some people’s houses across the street. I’d love to go back at sunset time and see the ocean. Nice art on the walls, too. One thing I thought was very funny was that on the top level, but indoors, there is a FIREPLACE that is pretty, but actually emits heat and it’s August! 6 feet away is a full blast air conditioner. I think they must have the fireplace on because it has a very nice effect, but it really is stupid if you think about it. I think they should figure out a way to get the mechanism out of there during the summer and maybe putting a little video screen of the surface of water or surfers on waves in the fireplace… then in the winter, put the fire-producing mechanism back in a turn off the a/c. It just was funny to look at that area of the second level and see the fireplace and a/c so close to each other and both going full blast. No matter what my review says. I think this place will do well because it is so pretty and the view is interesting. The«swells» will come and soon Chair 5 will be packed and it will be too hard for me to come. Oh, one more thing… I had injured my knee and was dreading going up to the roof but love rooftop views. It was nice to have an elevator. Lots of the rooftop places around here require you to go up a bunch of stairs(Phil’s, Tara’s) …this was a nice break for my knee. I’ll give it a week and try again. Wonderful summer breeze.

We had an incredible experience at Chair 5 in Narragansett. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We ate at the bar and the two bar tenders, Jen and Amber, were fantastic. The food is excellent, try the wings they are delicious. Everything we ordered was perfectly prepared and came out of the kitchen very fast. We go to Narragansett 3 or 4 times a summer and we will definitely be back. Make sure you try this place out quickly because once word spreads it’ll be packed.

What a beautiful space and the food lives up to the surroundings. Fish tacos, lobster mac and cheese, savory and wonderful. The toasted marshmallow ice cream sandwich was fantastic. I’m going to stay here just to go on a pretend vacation.

~~Oh yeah, first to review~~ So, the GF and I decided to try the Break Hotel and the restaurant within(Chair 5) a shot on 6÷30÷15. They had a soft opening over the weekend and the restaurant was open for the first time this week. The inside of the hotel is wicked nice, very boutique look. In my opinion, the main draw if you’re a local to come here will be the roof deck bar which as of 6⁄30 was not open. Not sure when it will be 100% open for business but we got to check it out with one of the staff members and it looks really cool. Nice views of the beach, comfy seating, cool looking bar. As for ‘Chair 5′ I had the fish tacos and my girlfriend had the burger. You get two fish tacos to an order so it’s not a huge meal but they’re pretty filling and were tasty. Between the two dishes, the burger was far superior and the fries that come with the burger are seasoned really well. Cocktails were good albeit pricey. At $ 10 a pop, they can quickly end up costing you more than your food. As a beer buy, they do have a decent list of crafts to choose from. Service was great, I only hope they can keep the same level of attentiveness and quality of service up when they start to get busier. 4⁄5 stars because there’s more I want to try. A good experience at the roof deck bar will likely bump this to a 5⁄5 review and their desserts sounded really good as well. To me, the ‘main courses’ list were a little on the high $$$ side but who knows, if they’re prepared well, they might be worth it. TL;DR version: I’ll be back. Environment was different and new. Food and drink options were good and I am excited for the roof deck bar when it’s fully open.
