I’ve lived in the Montrose area for 25 years my entire life and George is the best barber in the northern LA area. He gives great haircuts at a great price and uses a straight edge razor. Any one who needs to look good for the holidays, family get togethers, etc George is your guy.

Stopped using this place after Marco left. However I think I saw Marco at the barber shop just a few doors up from the GPD sub station? I was just walking by and looked in the window, there was a woman cutting hair and maybe Marco? I didn’t go in. I go to Sport Clips now.

A ridiculous farce of a barber shop. Twice now(four weeks ago as well as today) the ONLY employee of Tony’s couldn’t manage to show up by 9:45, though the posted opening on every sign is 9:00. I waited the first time until someone showed up… but today, when the 45 minutes was over, it was time to leave. For good. I can’t possibly be the only customer who’s never coming back. Marco worked here for years and was not only incredible but ONTIME. But 7 months after he left, things have only gotten more and more slipshod. Do NOT recommend.

I don’t really know what’s going on with this place other than everyone I have been by here to get a cut, it’s totally empty. Despite the sign that says«Walk ins Welcome», I have been by here on more than a few occasions to get a haircut, however, there has never been anyone there during«open hours» and the place is locked tight and the lights are out. No signs posted to explain why. Very frustrating. I recommend calling in advance to verify that they are indeed open before taking the trip there.

Unfortunately, Marco has retired, and no longer works here. The guy who still does just does buzz-cuts with clippers, and doesn’t use scissors like Marco used to do. What a bummer, but the old guy definitely deserved to take it easy!

the best barber joe, i drive 10 miles just to get my hair cut. worth every mile. The best taper I have ever got from a barber, from him and his brother Cecilio. Both give great hair cuts.

This place is great. They know how to properly fade your hair. Price was good as well. $ 20.00

Went in this barbershop for the first time ever and I really liked the way he did the job he is very friendly and honest with me I will always give him my business. Not only do I have to drive far to get a Barber to use a razor blade I am very satisfied the way he had cut my hair!

Been here twice now — both times when my regular barber is on vacation. Really good haircut with well mannered young barber. He is good with the clippers AND the straight razor. Uses after shave also. Unfortunately it’s expensive at $ 20. Drop the price a little and I would go here more often.

the old man is always sitting down reading while the younger guy is working. two kids were already in the shop when i walked in. while one kid was getting his haircut the other just sat and waited the entire time while the older gentleman lazily sits and reads. anyways, i walk in and sit down thinking, «what is going on?» 5 minutes go by and a older customer walks in and gets seated immediately by the lazy barber. this has happened twice to me so i can’t help but brush it off. this customer didn’t have a head full of hair so it only took the lazy barber 10 minutes to finish. by the time he pays another man has walked in and sat down. the lazy barber walks back and points to this man i’m sitting next to letting him know it’s his turn. i left the building.

First of all, this place is NEVER open to their hours! I have tried to come here 5 times! 5 times!!! And they were closed all 5 times. What kind of business runs like this? I have been here once before and just got my haircut on the sides and the owner still charged me 20 bucks for a 15 minute job, wasn’t that good either. Skip this place, it will save you time and money. They need to figure it out, I can see this place going out of business in a year or so. TERRIBLE

I really wish I didn’t have to leave a rating, since I think my experience might be a fluke, but here is my word of warning. Today, being that most expectationy of holidays, I decided to get some extra special manscaping in the form of a straight edged shave. I’ve heard my friends rave about the experience before: oh, how smooth it leaves your skin even in the face of the the most ornery of untamed follicles, oh, how classy the whole experience, and how oh so manly. I was into it. When I got called up, I played the intro to Madmen in my head, leaned back, and let the maestro conduct with his straight-edged baton. At first, it met all my expectations. chair leaned back, check; warmed foam lathered all over my facicle, check; even warmer(borderline hot) towel placed strategically on my face, opening all them stubborn pores, check. Cue the troubles. 1. The actual shaving seemed to drag on for a hair(heh) too long. Now, to be fair, I’ve never had this kind of shave before, so my frame of reference may be skewed. But 20 minutes seems a bit excessive(not counting the prep and the post-shave time). George, the owner, was not the one taking care of me and I suspect the other fellow was less experienced with a straight edge. 2. My facial hair pattern looks like something the Doppler 9000 spat out, hairs twisting out in every which direction. That said, my neck was feeling exceptionally raw by the end of it. But maybe that’s just the way it goes. Again, I have a weak frame of reference on this. 3. Frame of reference or not, the worst part was he missed some significant spots! Under the nose and at the corner of my mouth! For those who have missed this area and found themselves tonguing it in shame, you know the exasperating feeling. I only really noticed when I got home after running the other errands of the day, or else I would have asked him to clean it up. I’m no perfectionist… lord knows I miss a patch or two when I’m shaving myself. But that’s exactly why I went to a professional. At $ 35 a pop, I definitely expected a bit more. TL;DR: pro-tip: when getting a straight edge shave, wait for George.

I had never had a traditional straight razor shave before, and as part of a personal tradition of doing new things on my birthday each year, I said«what the heck». Since Tonys is close to home, I scoped him out and asked around, and got several good recommendations, as well as the Unilocal reviews. George the owner did my shave himself, and walked me through this since I was a newbie to the traditional shave process. At each step he explained things, even that since my face was a straight razor virgin, that I would experience some chafing, which was true but not objectionable. The shave itself is unlike anything else-usually I am scratchy by 5PM, but this day I still had smooth face until bedtime. Incredible! George is a great guy, quiet and polite, very professional. The shop is very manly and old school, a great old-fashioned island of manhood. The shave was just incredible! With the hot towels(not too hot) and the whole process, it is like getting a «mansage» of the face. I was so relaxed afterwards, it is hard to explain. Not something I would ever do frequently, but will do so the next time I really feel like pampering myself on a day off.
