The price is so cheap and food so kid friendly we loved it! And we had amazing service, very friendly and attentive. We got their pulled beef plate and veggie plate(for the baby), the choices of carrots(so soft and a bit sweet), mac n cheese, vegetable casseroles, soups etc are very baby/kid friendly. Our server was great, enthusiastic and caring, and our food came pretty quickly. It’s mostly comforting home cooked style food, nothing fancy schmancy, but the whole meal costed us less than at chick fila!

We’ve been several times, but the service has become too much to bear. Last time it took 15 minutes to get drinks and an hour to get food on a Sunday between 1&2 with about a half filled restaurant. We ordered kids’ refills once. Reminded the waiter next time we saw him — 20 minutes later. Got my first tea refill after I finished my food — an hour and 15 min. after my first glass. I’m pretty sure they just don’t staff well with the servers or the kitchen. Food is otherwise decent enough for us to return because our kids like it, but the service is too bad.

This place is not known for service but the food is edible. I use to dine in whenever I’m too lazy to cook. But now I order togo hoping to get better service. Togo service is not any better so I may have to venture out farther and different restaurant. I’m going to miss the pot roast!

If you are 96 on a fixed income(and don’t mind an occasional tape worm in your chicken fried steak)(see other review), this is the place for you! A great place for driving Miss Daisy and Old Man River.

Would you like your salad before the rest of your entrees? Yes, please. Would you like those one second or two seconds before the rest of your«cold» food arrives? This place SUCKS. They cater to older people who Blackeyed Pea thinks deserves«SUBPAR» service and food I’ve had better, hotter, more well prepared and served, food at a nursing home. If you are not a complete idiot and hope to make a little money in the food service industry, DON’T WORKTHERE. Older people are kinder with tips because of grandchildren, trying to make a little money, etc… get a better job. Older people still recognize rotten, cold food when they taste it.

We have discovered Black Eyed Pea in Missouri City. Don is their best waiter. He is fast, courteous and keeps checking on his tables. We will ask for Don when we go back to BEP. Food was great too!

When the waiter came to take orders, I ordered what every person who loves country food would get. The chicken fried steak. This being my first time eating there I wanted to see how it was. I took my first few bites and enjoyed it very much. Then I cut another piece like I did the other few only to find something sticking out of my meat. I looked closer and it looked like it had moved a little bit. So I set my fork and knife down and picked up the meat with my hand and started pulling it out, only to find that it was a tape worm that was sticking out of my food. I was highly disturbed and did not continue eating. I informed my waiter and instead of taking it to a manager he simply gave me my check. I paid and left with complete and utter disgust… I will NEVER be eating there again simply because of the experience I had today.

Ive worked here and let’s just say we weren’t the cleanest staff and if you don’t mind getting waited on by people with the work ethic of children that’s not so bad and if you complain to the manager if there is even one present to complain to you’ll get yourself a free meal just so they don’t have to deal with the fact that you have terrible service because they don’t care and don’t watch there employees but If you’re looking for a drink the bartender is great though and also your only hope for quality service since he’s the only one in the establishment that doesn’t act like a child or works like one for that matter also kelly B. Is the name of the manager so kelly c. Is probably her writing a good comment and the other one named Charles you’ll probably never see because he steals from the restaurant in the morning keeping all the cash payments and only ringing up the food payed for by credit cards leaven before it gets busy with a pocket full he was never slick the food is good depending on if its fresh and the cooks feel like giving a dam usually they don’t and lack quality handling of your food but besides all that this place is great I give it a whopping two stars just because of the bartender

Well, I always hate to write bad reviews so I decided to give this place a second try before writing my opinion. Unfortunately, the service here is awful. Both times we have entered the restaurant it has appeared to be deserted. No one behind the bar, no servers and no host to seat us. We haven’t seen more than two tables of customers there either. After waiting a few minutes someone finally comes and takes us to our table, then it’s another long wait for a server to come take our drink order. By the time they arrive, we’ve already decided on our food order so at least we don’t have to wait to give that. The kitchen is fairly fast so our order doesn’t take too long to arrive. After getting your food, your server disappears again until it’s time to drop off the bill. Everyone seems to hang out in the kitchen, so that must be where all the fun stuff is happening. The couple that was sitting in the restaurant before we arrived on our last visit finally gave up and hunted the server down in the kitchen so that they could pay their bill and leave. The food is decent which is why I gave them 2 stars. Nothing delicious, but it was edible and filling. My roast beef was tender and the cabbage had good flavor. They were probably the best part of the meal. The broccoli and rice casserole was made with instant rice, but I think most home cooks make it that way, so I guess the«home cooking» label really applies there. My husband’s chicken fried steak was mostly breading with a thin piece of meat, but he said it tasted okay and was not too tough. His favorite part of the meal was the mashed potatoes that were made with real red potatoes and had the skin in then. We both enjoyed the yeast rolls and cornbread that were served before our meal. The cornbread has a nice cake texture that is unusual, but we liked it. Don’t go out of your way to eat here, but if you don’t mind poor service, aren’t in a hurry and want a cheap, filling meal, this is your place.

Great southern home style food. The best part… the basket of yeast rolls and corn bread they bring right away for free. Those rolls are so addicting! Service was great and the restaurant was comfortable and clean. You also can’t beat the prices… very reasonable. We will most certainly dine here again.

This is the 2nd year in a row I have come here for a meal on new year’s day. I got here about 3:30. Waited about 20 minutes to be seated. Once seated a repeat of last year began. After about 15 minutes the manager came over and asked if we’d been served. She took our drink and meal order. She didn’t quite get the drinks correct. Meals came in an okay amount of time although the guy almost served it to the table next to us. We asked for more rolls. After we almost finished our meal the manager came by and asked how everything was. We told her we asked for more rolls. She brought us some. About 10 minutes later the server came by with the additional basket of rolls we originally asked for. When I went to ask for our bill he was already gone. 15 minutes later we finally flagged someone down to get our bill. It turns out our server was supposed to be our waiter. I will not go to this location again as this is not the first time I’ve had this experience here.

Wednesday we walked into the restaurant at 7pm tonight there was not one clean table. They found us a booth that was only a little dirty and cleaned it for us. We called the manager over to complain and her only excuse was that the bus crew failed to show. She had been on duty since 5:30pm, an hour and a half and hadn’t bothered to make sure her restaurant was clean and presentable to patrons. It was too disgusting and unappetizing to stay so we walked out. I’ve been in the restaurant business and there’s mo excuse for the way that place looked.

This is the second time I have(reluctantly) eaten here, & it will definitely be my last. Although the staff is very nice, & the hot bread is delicious, it can’t make up for the terrible food. I enjoy BEP very much, esp. the one near Deerbrook Mall, but this location seems to really not have a reliable cooking situation. The squash casserole, & the broccoli casserole were extremely sweet, for some unexplained reason. We ordered fried green tomatoes, which were thick, hard, over-battered & bland. The fried pickles were also over-battered, & super-sour. The potato skins were the only salvation. The piece de resistance was the chicken fried steak that we all ordered. As you can tell from the photos, they came out thick & delicious-looking. Ah, that’s where we were fooled! Upon cutting into them, they were nothing more than a thin, slightly burned, & tough piece of shoe leather-like meat of some sort.(Mine tasted of liver) If I were Nolan Ryan, I would be embarrassed to have my name on this menu. I was really pissed to have spent 10 bucks on this abomination. Because it was a special celebration for a dear loved one, I didn’t want to call attention to our situation. I just walked out of there fuming. Again, our server was hard-working, & provided excellent service, but I can never eat at this particular BEP again.

Great service from Lisa. We had Cobb Salad and a Salmon dish. The greens in the salad were fresh and crisp and didn’t taste bad like it used to. It was delish. Mom’s salmon must have been good as she ate it all.

Good food. Nice flavors but it was clearly cooked earlier today. Next time I come it will be early. Fried okra is acceptable but all our food was reheated. So boo for not fresh food but yay for great flavors and yummy rolls. I forgot to mention the service. We went it and it was dead. Like 3 tables dead. We waited around for like 5 min before anyone came to seat us. And we didn’t get greeted at all. Just me, but when a restaurant isn’t seat yourself I expect to be greeted and not looked at and greeted with the question«table for two?» And walk off. Our server was unenthusiastic at best. No offers to refill tea/water/rolls. Anything we asked for came promptly but I got the feeling our server didn’t care about their job. They rarely came by.

Sometimes you are in the mood for just traditional southern comfort food. The Black Eyed Pea really fits the bill. We were wandering aimlessly trying to be inspired for lunch when we finally decided that comfort food fit our mood. We made our way to the black eyed pea, which we hadn’t been to in over 14 years. The last time I was there I don’t think I was even drinking age! As we walked in we realized that we had just dropped the average age of patrons of this place by quite a bit. They really need more handicapped spaces out front because this place is senior citizen hangout #1! We were greeted by a sour faced hostess who sat us right away. We were then greeted by a not very friendly waitress who proved to be quite competent at her job even if she wasn’t pleased to be there. We came for the food, and we were hungry! The hot rolls and cornbread that are brought out before your meal are DELICIOUS. It’s really worth going there just for those. They definitely know how to make some good rolls. We ordered the potato skins($ 6.99) for an appetizer. They are huge. There is actually too much potato in the potato skins, so you feel like you are eating mini baked potatoes. For my main course I had the chicken tenders($ 8.99). They were very good with a light country breading accompanied by honey mustard or country gravy. The french fries were over fried and the sweet apples were so so. My husband had the pork chops($ 9.99) which were good for him but overcooked for the typical person. He happens to like them well done so that worked for him. Overall this place was fine for what we were in the mood for today. I think it’ll be a while before we head back to the black eyed pea, because nothing was really above average except for those rolls. I swear there must be some kind of drug in those rolls that make you want to eat more and more of them.
