Update: I just got a call from the guy who«just purchased what was left of Wipe and Restore.» Looks like those guys ran the business into the ground sooner than even I imagined. The new owner was calling to follow up on the repair work and make sure I was treated OK when I used them. When I said the repair diagnostic was right, but not the service, he said that was consistent with what he heard from other follow up calls he’s made. Wanted to make sure I knew he purchased their assets and not their employees. In light of the new ownership and staffing, my rant against Wipe and Restore is hereby suspended indefinitely. I won’t be doing business with the new owner myself because I’m moving out of town this month, but I don’t have any red flags about you all giving this new guy a shot instead of saddling him with the rants about the old owner.

I’ve had multiple services performed by Wipe and Restore. Both times I was served by a rep named Nick. While i found the services performed to be acceptable, the customer service was not good. Both the quoted price and time to completion were misquoted in each case and when I called to inquire, Nick seemed put out. I dropped my computer off on Tuesday, and Nick told me it would be ready on Wednesday. On Wednesday when I called to check, he told me ‘I told you I’d call you when complete’. He was clearly upset that I was calling to inquire and despite that the organization repeatedly missed meeting the expectations they had set to get the computer returned to me, calling to inquire was frowned upon by Nick. Technically, I think they were sufficient, but Nick lacks significantly in customer service expertise.

We’ve used this facility in the past with good results but I had a very different experience this afternoon. I brought in my laptop for service. The repair tech may be an A+ computer whiz(I didn’t give him a chance to prove that) but he was a verified F in customer relations. In our encounter there was no hint of friendliness in what he said or how he said it. A poorly contained, unprovoked undercurrent of animosity was evident. I became progressively more uneasy as this continued and I finally told him that I did not feel comfortable establishing a business relationship with him and I took my laptop and left. Perhaps he is struggling with some issue that I do not know about but what I do know is that he has to learn to be much more pleasant to his customers, or fake it the best he can, or just stay in the back and fix computers.
