Nice little lunch find on Oakland Ave where Bella’s Fat Cat used to be. Has all the deli sandwiches you could think about ordering, breakfast served all day, beer, soda, shakes, custard, etc. I had the hangover burrito — cheese, salsa, your choice of meat(I had mine with sausage), potatoes and eggs. It was one of the best burritos I have had in MKE. Every ingredient can be found throughout the burrito and not just stuck in one place. The beers(even the micro brew ones) were $ 3.00 or less. I had the 312 but noticed you could get a PBR for a dollar if you ordered a sandwich… Open for Breakfast and Lunch… so if you are tired of the same old same old breakfast or lunch… get a good value and good food at the West Allis Cheese & Sausage on Oakland Ave…

Good deli sandwiches. Delicious hearty breakfast sandwiches. Ice cream treats for real. If you enjoy the Public Market location(and I do) this one does it one better by having seating and a few more options for your consuming pleasure. The offerings include ice cream cookie sandwiches and coffee. All the same cheeses and meats at the MPM but now with plenty of room to enjoy them the absolute second you buy them. No more delayed gratification.

This place has amazing sandwiches and is long overdue for a good review by me. As I’ve been reading the previous reviews, it appears that the owners do too, because a side of potato salad/coleslaw no longer accompanies your sandwich. Rather they give you a well-proportioned helping of delicious(house made?) potato chips that are seasoned/salted just the right amount. Really good. Also, every time I go(it’s been once a week, lately), my boyfriend and I get speedy service and the sandwich ingredients are always fresh and very flavorful. The prices are comparable to anything else in the area, for the most part, but I’d much rather spend 6 – 10 dollars on a lunch here than Noodles or Qdoba. It’s just fresher and tastier. I have nothing bad to say about this place… try it.

When you feel like taking the time to have some braunschweiger and onions on rye right before that afternoon meeting.

I had the meatloaf sandwich and it was divine! A thick slab of homemade meatloaf with some really good melted cheddar cheese and some«special sauce», I’m not sure what was in that sauce but it was tangy and sweet and complimented the otherwise heavy sandwich with a touch of tartness(think cranberry sauce on turkey with gravy). The selection of cheeses and beers is overhwelmingly large, and they have other treats like lasagna, mac n cheese, and even pizza dough you can take home to make a fresh pie. I might have to do some of my Festivus shopping here…

My husband and I disagreed on what rating to give West Allis Cheese, so we decided to split the stars in the middle. My husband enjoyed his experience and had little critical to say about W. A. C.(which is unusual for him). I however may have been having a hormonal pregnancy surge so take my review with a grain of salt. It was also 1:30 and I was starving — again not going to add to my positive attitude. :) Their meatloaf sandwich came highly recommended and I was disappointed when they were out of meatloaf. I ordered an Italian sandwich instead. The draw of that sandwich was the spicy pepper salad topping. I was disappointed in its spiciness. I found my sandwich and chips bland. I felt the building needed a bit of TLC as well as the bathroom. My last frustration was as I was shopping for cheese, I found some of it moldy. But, that being said, we enjoyed the local laid-back atmosphere better then any other commercial sandwich shop we could have stopped at in that same neighborhood. The staff were friendly. We were even addressed by the chef in the back on our way out. My husband had only positive things to say, so I will be back for my meatloaf sandwich on another day!

I’m extremely pleased to find a great hot-sandwich place right by the UWM campus. Their corned beef and swiss on rye was perfectly prepared. Nice and warm, the flavors were well-balanced and delicious. The mac and cheese with a little bit of chili on top was exactly what I was hoping for when I ordered it. It was simply perfect. It was also extremely heavy(unsurprisingly), and I could have easily split the dish with a second person and still come away satisfied. It would be nice if they had a larger selection of cheeses to take home, but the size of the shop doesn’t really allow for that. What they do have on hand is quite good, and it’s a convenient place to pop in and grab some decent gruyère or a cranberry-infused white cheddar.

As a long-time fan of WACS, I was super-excited that a location making sandwiches was opening right in my neighborhood. I feel like this location is forgotten about and worry that a lack of traffic is going to mean it doesn’t last very long. This location shouldn’t be the one you go to if you’re looking to stock up on tons of cheese — the smaller shop is focused on meal service and just doesn’t have the large cheese case that Water and Becher have. But they do have a small selection and we’ve never walked out of there for less than $ 40. I’m a die-hard devotee to WACS’s orphans bin. When they get to the end of a round of cheese, they package them up put them in a bin and call them orphans. Each piece is less than .25 pound, usually no more than .10 of a pound. You pay, usually, a buck or two and you’re able to sample all kind of cheeses that you may not have gotten out of the case. We often find the aged cheddars that are upward of $ 20 a pound. For a few dollars, we’re able to get a small taste of the amazing cheese without breaking the bank. Its such a great resource to expand your pallet in a no-pressure way. If you don’t like it, it was just $ 1 and it’s no loss to just throw it away. We often go on Saturday or Sunday morning and stock up, then come home with a box of crackers and nibble our way through. Its so much fun and so tasty. We’ve rarely been disappointed in a cheese and we’ve found a few we know we’ll go back and buy a larger size chunk of. The sandwiches here are divine. They’re thick, crafty-feeling artisan sandwiches. This isn’t just ham and mayo on some bread. They give you gourmet combinations and they feature a different one each day, making that one even cheaper. Last time we were there, the candid 20-something behind the counter admitted that they weren’t as busy as they’d like. He offered me 10% off to tweet and facebook about our time there to try and spread the word. It’d be a shame if folks let this location die.

First to review. BOOM! West Allis Cheese and Sausage Shoppe(shop-pee… yay!) has a deli on Oakland now. Get excited, Milwaukee! This is awesome news. Why is it awesome, Rachel? Pray tell us.(Okay. Fine.) Because, dear Unilocal-nation, because they have great artisan meats and cheeses and veggies and great sandwiches and now you have an excellent option that’s not Subway for a deli-icious sandwich in the UWM area. Cousins? Subway? WESTALLISCHEESEANDSAUSAGESHOPPE. Just like all the other WAC+SS locations, they have great Wisconsin-tastic jams and jellies and jerkeys and cheeses and pickled items and whatnots.(These make great gifts… and Father’s Day is coming up, yo!) I’m a huge fan of this trio of great artisan cheese shops in MKE. Unique and independently owned, spend yr money here when yr looking for an awesome sandwich, Milwaukee.
