Buffet City

I had a nice experience in this restaurant. The food was hot and fresh, also i like the seafood (crab legs, crawfish, salt & pepper shrimp) they served. The food were so delicious. Buffet city is the best restaurant i can find in this area.
The waitress gave me a sunny smiling and nice service.
The environment was quiet enough for me to enjoy my meal.
Well, I think i will go back there soon.

Nothing special during lunch. Same menu everyday. Food ok but if you’re sick of burgers and want to get in and out, this is the place.

A couple that I know recommended this place highly after we found our more usual Chinese buffet lacking. One of them was making the trek up to Costco so we had to pass near-​ish to here anyhow so we decided to check it out for lunch. Just a couple days later, they invited us back to do dinner with them.
Buffet City was, for me, a perfectly average Chinese buffet. It’d probably be a regular if I lived closer to it, though.
The hot and sour soup was on the spicier side, which was a welcome surprise because I’m used to less full-​flavored options on buffet lines. The Thai peanut chicken, while sweeter than I’m used to, was tasty. I felt like a monster eating them (I have a love for all things amphibious), but the salt and pepper frog legs were delicious. I also recommend their crayfish – just a little bit of spice and a lot of flavor.
It seems to be considerably less busy than many Chinese buffets I’ve been too, also, which is a plus. It’s always nice not to have to worry about kids running around and bumping into you or screaming up a storm.

I was pleasantly surprised as I continued my trek through most of Brown Deer’s surrounding «questionables». We tried to go to the «Best Buffet» first, but it is permanently closed. This place kind of stunk when you walked in, there is a not-​so-​attractive and very shallow large goldfish pond when you walk in — but once you pass into the actual restaurant it goes away.
HUGE BUFFET! There were at least 8 buffet islands, completely filled with over 10 options per. Everything from the americanized pizza, mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and garlic bread options at one, to the fried rice, lo mein, orange chicken and soup options. They had a hibachi chef in the back doing bbq and stir fry, as well as an entire island of seafood such as shrimp, mussles and scallops.
There were many vegetarian options, and the only one that I really couldn’t stomach was the veggie spring roll. It was just kind of sour. The lo mein, crab rangoon, soup, etc were all very good. Service was fast and splitting the check was no issue.
They ID with all card purchases, so hopefully you’re prepared for that! Not a bad option for a buffet in town.

The food quality and extensive election is very good for a Chinese buffet. Beverage service and plate clearing is slow. My biggest issue however: DO NOT CHARGE ME EXTRA BECAUSE YOU’RE SERVING CRAB LEGS ALL DAY WHEN THEY NEVER GET RESTOCKED. The fact that I probably won’t eat them is beside the point. If I’m paying for them, I would like the option to eat them.

BrownDeer is known for their Chinese buffets. I’ve been to most of them, the best and biggest is buffet city tucked in the corner by a fabric store. They even serve seafood and frog legs for dinner. They have a ton of options and tend to work harder at keeping the items fresh and hot. Their carry out is also a pretty decent deal.

I have avoided this place like the plague. but it was right across from Half Price Books. I had a hungry baby and my mom in tow. We were all hungry, and caved in since the Olive Garden was packed. Upon entry, I saw the dirtiest Coy Fish pond I have ever seen in my life. It needs a good cleaning, because it smelled very bad! All three of us were seated immediately, and were given our drinks within five minutes. When we were ready to eat, there were a number of options to choose from. I observed that the Sesame Chicken had been sitting out, and a fresh pan could have been brought out. The sweet and sour chicken tasted old. Almost like it was cooked, froze, then reheated to be served on the buffet. I am not saying that is what they do; but my mom and I agreed that the chicken tasted old. The General Tso chicken was not spicy as it should have been. The vegetable egg rolls tasted great, as well as the Vietnamese chicken. I had the requisite fried rice with roasted potatoes on the side. I did not try any fish, but they had a good selection of fried/​baked fish and shellfish. They also had fried frog legs!
I was not entirely impressed with my experience. If you are in a pinch, try it, but there has to be better options. Still looking for a great Chinese buffet in Milwaukee.

Do you know how many people it takes to run a Chinese/​Hibachi/​Sushi buffet at night with one customer? Hard to believe, but it’s 7. You need 3 workers to eat, 1 cashier to eat, 1 to play with a baby, and 2 to yell things across the buffet to each other. OH! I’m sorry, it’s 8. There’s also one person to stand outside looking suspiciously at everyone. It’s a lot of hard work! I mean, they’re so busy that they don’t have time for the mundane details like: Running the Hibachi Grill, Stirring up the food so it doesn’t look like it was sitting since 10:00am this morning, Cleaning off plates from the 1 patron’s table, Refilling the 1 patron’s water, and Giving the 1 patron the check when he’s clearly done eating. Those are NOT mandatory for a buffet. No. They were doing precisely what they were supposed to!
Place closes at 10p, I went in at 8:00p, left at 9:00pm. Granted, I was a semi late arrival, but I was in no way, shape, or form, keeping these guys from going home! I left an hour before closing! Is Milwaukee not on central time?!
Honestly, I’m a little upset that their food was mediocre enough to deserve a 2^nd star. Whatever. Here are your highlights.
SOUPS
My big thing at Chinese buffets are their soups. In general I’m a big soup guy, so I make a beeline to the soup bowls when I enter. The Egg Drop Soup tasted a little bland and the flavor was just a tad light, but those by themselves were decent. The problem with the Egg Drop was that it was thick! It was about as thick as an egg! When I ladled the soup into the bowl, it didn’t splash, but it sort of wiggled, like Jello! Made it a little unnerving to eat, but it was edible.
The Hot & Sour was delicious! It had perfect consistency, tasted just a tad burnt, but it was sour enough without making you pucker, and the vegetables were still a little crunchy. This was definitely the highlight of the buffet.
The Won Ton Soup was straight up Pacific Ocean! It was so salty, I couldn’t take it! The wonton itself was decent though!
SUSHI
There’s basically 1 big tray and a clear plastic cover that sits on top of it. You lift the cover and take your rolls and go. No soy sauce tray (use a soup bowl). They had CA Rolls, Philly Rolls, and Shrimp Nigiri. CA rolls had the smallest pieces of imitation crab meat I’ve ever seen. The Philly Rolls were essentially cream cheese and rice. I know I had at least 1 piece that had 0 salmon in it! The shrimp nigiri was so disgusting looking I couldn’t even take it. It looked like the shrimp was shedding! None of the sushi tasted good. They were clearly there for about 96 hours before I took ‘em. I know, that was brave of me! I’ll probably be paying for it soon.
SESAME CHICKEN
Dry and old.
EGG FOO YOUNG
OMG! I put a piece in my mouth and I immediately made a sound and made that long face where you don’t want to chew anymore… think about the immediate reaction you have when you bite your tongue or cheek while eating. It was disgusting! It wasn’t foul, but it was so sawdust like, I can’t even really explain. I actually used the super salty Won Ton Soup to just wash it down to mask the nasty flavor. If the sushi doesn’t kill me, this will!
HIBACHI GRILL
The noodles and meats were all out there to rot… but there was no chef! I bet that thing wasn’t even on! I was going to ask one of the workers, but you know, they were too busy running the buffet by eating and yelling across the buffet, so I didn’t want to disrupt their entrepreneur-​ing.
BUFFET GHETTO
I guess it’s kind of a chicken or the egg question. This place is deep in a plaza that’s very depressing. Looks like the main attraction of this plaza, Stein Mart, is gone, so nobody wanders in here anymore. So… is it because the economy is so bad that business sucks and that’s why the workers are depressed and unmotivated? OR Is it because the workers are so depressed and unmotivated that business is so bad? I mean honestly, most of the food was halfway decent, about on par for a Chinese/​Hibachi/​Sushi buffet.
Anyway, the place did get the job done. I did leave satisfied, in terms of of my hunger. Not sure I ever really want to come back though.

The buffet is not high in cost if you go at particular times. There was nothing too exciting about this place and there was an Asian buffet across the street so one would think they would step it up a little. The food was okay but nothing to rant and rave about. Some of the food looked a little dry but I did not try that. There was a selection but being a vegetarian there was a pretty good selection. Would I go again if I was in Milwaukee again? Probably not unless someone suggested it.

A very large selection for salad entrées seafood deserts included fresh fruit and soft serve chocolate, vanilla, and mix. Soft drinks are Pepsi products. A constant supply of food pans were replacing the empty pans. Sushi offerings were rolled on site with a variety today the tuna looked dry and salmon and hamachi looked fresh. Wait staff quick at clearing and offering drinks. During the dinner they usually have 3 types of crab muscles and clams.
