No longer called ‘Plunge’, this is now called ‘The Rooftop’. No booze, no pool parties, nothing but a pool with some soft drinks and a lunch menu because they gave up their rooftop liquor license. We got the downlow from a departing former bartender that was relegated to making lattes for old folks wanting to enjoy a quiet afternoon on the rooftop of the hotel. The Perry is no longer going to be a full service hotel — no more food, no more parties. Pretty much like a Holiday Inn. The owners were dropping some cash to renovate but when the inspectors came, they said they had to choose between extending the scaffolding or shutting down the rooftop lounge. So it almost seems like they ran out of money and now have to make it into lower-end hotel/upper-end motel. Sad because I’ve heard great things about their pool parties and nightlife.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. This place is done 100% right, no cover, classy, upscale, and not overcrowded. I went before bar hopping so it was fairly empty but I do play to go back sooner than later I hope. Definitely a must see view and spot to stop for a drink.

Wonderful service… Started the night here for a girlfriends bachelorette party… The manager greeted us with bottles and great service to start of our night. It had been raining so he made sure that our table and seats were dry and comfortable for us to enjoy our time there. He chatted with us girls for a while, making us feel welcomed in a nice genuine way; a very classy man. The view at the rooftop is beautiful. The dj was playing awesome music… it was definitely a great start to our night!!!

*Classy *Trendy *Chic *Luxurious *Upscale *Quality These are all the things I think of when I think of Plunge. Located atop«The Perry Hotel» formally know as «The Gansevoort» is a gorgeous setup of a bar, pool, and lounge area. Encased with glass walls, it gives you a breathtaking view of the ocean. As if The Perry Hotel is not beautiful enough, having Plunge on their rooftop is just a bonus. The Perry hotel offers free valet for both its guests and guests that are just going to hang out at Plunge. When you walk in the front door, you have the main lobby and the front desk. They have the most amazing piece of huge wall art behind the front desk. It’s a bunch of decorative tiles that depicts palm trees, in blues, pinks, and purples. It just screams Miami. Every time I see it, I can’t help but think of «Miami vice», «Scarface», «Miami Beach», and all things Miami circa 1980s. I wish I can hang it in my room! The elevators that take you to Plunge is also located in the main lobby. There is usually a guy there checking I.d.‘s and keeping the line in order(not that theres ever a long line). Taking the elevators all the way to the rooftop, you emerge onto a huge space. First thing you hear is the dj playing tunes, next thing you see in a long bar with any kind of liquor you want. There are big lounge chairs, and beds inside cabanas with canopies. The best seating are the big lounge chairs that surround the pool since the pool area is elevated from the floor. The palm trees throughout the grounds adds a nice tropical feel. Plunge usually has a d.j. on the weekends and they turn it into a pool party. The cabanas and lounge chairs are for rent. They provide the lounge chairs with towels and blankets incase it gets a little chilly. You can also order food and drinks to your chair or cabana. When I went I was lucky enough to rent the lounge chair next to the pool. I also ordered and HIGHLY recommend the«Raspberry Lemonade». This delicious concoction made fresh by the bartenders is definitely the drink to get. I believe its made with sky vodka, fresh squeezed lemonade and fresh muddled raspberries. It’s one of the best drinks I have had in my life. You can order your drinks by glass or pitcher. I feel you get more for your money if you order the pitcher. The bathrooms at Plunge are also pretty cool. They are located on the rooftop as well, but are not enclosed. They are stalls(yes, they have doors) but out in the open. So get a nice fresh breeze from the ocean while taking care of your business lol. I love Plunge. It definitely has a great crowd and vibe to. Never trashy or un-classy. If you’re in Miami, I recommend coming here for one its parties, its well worth it, for the views and atmosphere. Tons of fun and great people. * I hear the night time pool parties are just as fun ;-)

Bartender David is by far one of the best bartenders I have ever encountered. This place is a true Gem and David makes it worth coming to. I visited at night so the pool was close however that was not an issue. The ambiance was still very enjoyable and the drinks were strong! The place was not overly crowded it had the right amount of people to make the place enjoyable and hot!

The place itself was great; ocean views, great outdoor bathrooms, good size pool, and a nice rooftop bar. The bar had plenty of choices. Another plus is that free orange infused water was offered near the bar. However, I visited Plunge for WMC and although the music was sick and the crowd was vibbin we had a terrible experience with one of the staff. On first arrival we all sat down at one of the poolside couches and within minutes this thug-like character with a pony-tail and a brooklyn accent came over and demanded that we get our credit card out NOW! We all looked at each other like what the hell? When we asked him why he said that the couches cost $ 500 to sit in for the day. We were appalled. 80% of the other couches were empty and they dare to charge this much to sit in them during broad daylight? What a joke… We were on the guest list and buying drinks at the bar and they have the audacity to treat us like this. In all one star customer service plus a 4 – 5 star venue give this place a 3 star review. Improvement is definitely needed management.

Laid back, relaxed environment. If you’re looking for a beautiful view, surrounded by beautiful people, this is probably your best bet. The rooftop bar is classy and modern with great cocktails and lots of dark, quiet corners where you can whisper to person you’re with.

Always fun to hang out here, and the drinks are pretty good(expensive of course). If you come during the day you can’t hang out at the pool which is pretty lame. I have stayed here before as well and the hotel is always fun and enjoyable.

Great for a date not a party!!! This place is usually empty or slightly crowded… more of a chill spot! To find this place you have to go into the Lobby and go to the elevators… the door guy checks your id and brings you up to the rooftop lounge. Its such a breezy beach laid back lounge perfect for a date! if you want a real club head to Louis downstairs or coco deville. . I enjoy rooftop bars with the nice breeze and palm trees! This is not for dancing more of a relaxing place. Have a few drinks and head somewhere after… It’s Pricey… but good for a date.

I was not impressed with the Friday night, Saturday daytime or even the Wednesday evening crowd at this place. It’s either too loud or too boring. On Saturday there are WAY too many girls trying to act like they’re hot shit. Literally the guy to girl ratio is about 7 to every 1 guy: not a problem for the guys, but us girls would like some candy too. Drinks(as expected) are overpriced — try $ 13 for a small gawdy plastic cup(not even a glass one!), however I made my way up to the bar alone one night while I was staying in the Gansevoort and made friends with the bartenders who didn’t let me pay for a single drink! You guys made my night. Thank you :) I would recommend checking out the place for the nice pool and taking pictures, however you really don’t have a nice view of the beach.

didn’t get to swim, but just visited the bar. The view is awesome but that’s about it. The servers were polite and cute but the drinks are outrageously expensive and the clientele was snobbish. There are many bars in SOBE where you can have a better time. I just went for the experience of going to the Gansevoort. The NY hotel is much better.

What’s better than sipping cocktails and lounging by the pool at an ultra chic rooftop? Doing it at night of course. While the lobby of the Gansevoort Hotel reeks of a graveyard for cheap air fresheners, the fresh open air of the rooftop lounge combined with trendy, beachy lounge sofas and chairs are simply lovely. The cocktails aren’t out of this world expensive and the music really sets the mood for a great pre-game to the rest of an eventful evening. My only caveat with Plunge is the restrooms. I enjoy fresh air as much as the next gal, but I don’t care to take my «comfort break» in it. Plunge keeps all their sinks and even potty stalls outside. No walls. No ceiling. And it feels like no privacy. Boys also share sinks with girls, which I realize is not a new concept, but one I still don’t care for. Does my guy need to see me powdering my nose and adjusting my skirt? Or does he only need to see the finish product? Exactly.

ATTENTION UnilocalERS: Please disregard Nick K.‘s review of Plunge. Unfortunately, I know this man… and he once went a WEEK without showering during a week-long outdoor summer music festival because it cost $ 5 to use the showering facilities, and he thought that was overpriced. No wonder why it almost killed him to spend $ 9 on a drink at this GORGEOUS rooftop lounge! They don’t even charge a cover! Not to mention it’s located at the Ganzevoort Hotel in South Beach. Please be prepared to spend some money before you come here, and get a haircut while you’re at it. Beautiful atmosphere and clientele. I must have come on an off-night though, because the pool area was closed that evening. Nevertheless– still a really nice place to have some drinks, take some pictures, and meet some people before heading off to another destination.

Oh my goodness. I’d rather attend my mother’s funeral than spend an evening at the Gansevoort roof top bar. Let me explain why: 1) $ 9 cans of Presidente. Yes, that’s right, $ 9. I’d hate to see what a non-watery beer costs. I could probably buy a keg of Presidente from the shady liquor store further inland for $ 9. When I do, I’m going to crack the shell over the Plunge ‘tender’s face. 2) Reserved tables are great, aren’t they? Especially when you are sitting at a unreserved table that suddenly becomes reserved. Excuse me, bouncer, but I believe I was enjoying my $ 9 Presidente before you ruined everything. Gross. The only redeeming thing about this place is the shark tank in the Gansevoort lobby. The only problem is that I considered taking a plunge and ending my life after spending an hour on the roof.

F YOU for adding a 20% tip onto a drink order at the bar. (1) Shot,(1) corona and(2) vodka drinks deserve a $ 10 tip???

Plunge at the Gansevoort is a must see for anyone looking to have a sexy South Beach experience. The views from the rooftop lounge are gorgeous day or night. The design of the entire place is impressive, from the cabana couches to the outdoor main bar to the open aire bathroom stalls. Check with the concierge for events taking place there. The Plunge often plays host to cool evening parties, daytime soirees, and even Sunday night movie screenings. The drink price tags will definitely put a dent in your wallet though and I doubt that they have any sort of real Happy-Hour. Seriously, Gansevoort. What’s up with that? Just for that I’m docking you a star. Help me Unilocal you and I’ll give you your 4th star.

*Great view of the beach — CHECK *Gorgeous pool and cabanas — CHECK *Cool music and DJ — CHECK *Great drinks and good bartenders(not to mention cute ones too =oD) — CHECK What else could you ask for? This place is awesome — the view of South Beach is gorgeous. Too bad you need to be a hotel guest to use the pool during the day(go figure). However, to chill here at night is awesome! I must admit it wasn’t very crowded when we went only because it was a bit windy. But it was still awesome! The bartender made us an awesome mojito too. Oh it is pricey — but that’s expected. Loved this place!

We went on a bad night. The wind was blowing down our cabana, but we received no apologies. Instead, we received a $ 230 receipt for some nibbles and a pitcher of mojito. No one was there, but maybe a few couples and tourists. Where is the eye candy? Where is the music? The pool was not lit up either. We felt lame and left. Must have been a bad night.

Dear Plunge, God you are so freaking sexy, you’re a sexy freak! Went to a WMC Pool Party here on Friday and had a phenomenal time. DJ’s Chachi, Enferno, and Jason Smith all took to the turntables while we were there, spinning one phenomenal set after another. The crowd was diverse and everyone was having fun. That’s what I love about WMC… Music is universal, so wherever you’re from, whatever you’re doing, everyone just comes together at the sound of the Dark Beat. :) The bartenders were all on point, as were the many cocktail waitresses that were walking around, ensuring that no one’s drink was ever empty. The prices weren’t too bad either. I think I paid about $ 7 a beer, which for SoBe isn’t bad. What I did find pricey though was the bottled water. $ 6!!! For that I just kept drinking beer. :-) Thank you Plunge, for a fun, day in the sun, musical adventure. I walked out of here with 6 new free CDs! LOVE! xoxo, Sabrina*

I went to Plunge for an event recently. And although there was a wait at the door, it wasn’t anything too bad and besides I met people in line. Once you head upstairs the view is fantastic. It’s normal for hotels to have outdoor loungey pool areas where the pretty people sip and chat away day or night. And there are some cool rooftops around no doubt however Plunge overs a much welcomed hybrid. As fellow Unilocalers mentioned the bathrooms are a must visit, ah yes a deluxe stall in the sky especially cause as you walk up you get to take in the views, hello city view. The pool itself is pretty and long. Definitely an aesthetic pool, where you can soak up the rays and the atmosphere while mingling and sippin. Usually I’d rather hang at one of the poolside beds and watch the world go by but this time I decided to wander around and I can tell you this is the scene most people associate with Miami. Yes, even a crew from Bravo TV was in the house or should I say the lounge. You know if Bravo is here it must be fab right ;) of course there were whispers that this is for the upcoming show that follows a group of locals around… think Housewives of Miami but instead of housewives, maybe nightlife impresarios? Who knows but hey it’s been a while since Miami had a new reality tv presence. Maybe Miami is lacking in the drama dept? ;) So yes those wanting a view and a scene, take an elevator ride up and Plunge right in. PS — as you can tell from my pics there were a few raindrops felt through out the night. so check the weather before you head out. And ladies it can get a little windy out there so just a little to consider before getting dressed.
