I ate the Chicken Nacho’s and had a couple giant Margarita’s! They were amazing!!! Also the waitress was very courteous & friendly! I definitely recommend anyone who’s visiting Miami to go check this place out!

Yeah we got tourist trapped at Amarillo. Bad food, bad service and they scam you but not listing the drink prices. A coke and a ice tea was listed on our bill for $ 24! We argued them down on it but should have just left before we sat down.

$ 18 drinks, even for something simple like whiskey or a screwdriver. Waiter definitely didn’t care about our table and actually seemed annoyed we were there.

Very overpriced. Insist on seeing the menu before ordering. When we asked for a drink menu, our waitress said–«We have a full bar, you can order anything.» Which meant, «A margarita is $ 35(literally), a beer is $ 18.95 and a martini $ 15.95, but I don’t want you to leave because of the prices, so I’m not showing you a drink menu because I don’t want you to see the prices while sober.» Luckily we looked at the food prices while sober too, chicken with rice and beans– the most simple staple food for Latinos costs $ 23 here!(Those prices are truly accurate as of January 2016.) I had one martini and I felt like I had 3. Be careful, their ploy is obvious– get you drunk quickly so you don’t realize how much $ you’re wracking up. 20% tip is also included in your bill. One martini and one beer cost us $ 45.51.

First time at Amarillo, I would absolutely come back again! The Paella was delicious, the portions are very filling. and the bartenders make some killer margaritas. The atmosphere was pretty chill, the staff is so friendly and everything is clean and beautiful. We were delighted to seat outside and enjoyed the music they were playing, the patio is beautiful with lots of seating.

I thought I had remembered having a good time here last time I was in Miami, but I think I was terribly wrong. The menu looked decent at first glance. Tourist prices, but not too bad. Nothing was more than maybe $ 25 for an appetizer so we figured ordering the seafood platter would be a bit more, but no big deal. Nothing about the seafood platter was good. The lobster was as hard as a rock. The salmon and cod were so dry and tasteless. The shrimp were extremely tough. I mean everything about it was misery. Then, the bill comes. This platter was ONEHUNDREDANDEIGHTYDOLLARS. And a $ 50+ surcharge fee just for eating there?! Like whatttt?! Not a great first meal in Miami. so thanks Amarillo. I will be salty about this for awhile.

This was a horrible introduction to Miami. Do not go here. We ordered the seafood platter, with shrimp, salmon, squid, cod, and lobster. The lobster was disgusting. Not fresh. Tasted like egg whites. The squid was an insult to my palate, rubbery and over cooked. The salmon was slightly dry, but edible. After all, how hard is it to cook salmon? Shrimp was mediocre. The cod was also over cooked. The best thing on the plate was the mesclun salad. I’m not overreactingWe also entertained those gigantic drinks. Full of sugar and ice. Unfortunately, the price for this platter was not listed and since the entire menu is around 20 – 40 dollars we assumed a little higher than that. We were wrong. The platter was $ 180. That is a ticket to Miami. I am sickened with anger by this experience. I have lived in Asia, South America, and Europe and I have NEVER paid this much and had such a despicably horrid meal. This is an injustice to my palate. After I finish this review, I want to forget this experience. I feel as if I was brutally insulted by the restaurant. I would have been better off eating a hot dog for a dollar. This all may sound like an exaggeration, but believe me when I say the food is insipid, over priced, and disgusting.

I would like to give no star if there was such option. No price on the menu, and they charged $ 65 per drink! And they charge 20% service charge. I did not get any service whatsoever. Waiter was rude and the only thing he did was bring the food and drinks. We ordered paella for two and two margaritas and we ended up paying $ 220. Such a fraud.

Shady, shady, shady… Don’t stop here. A friend and I were walking down Ocean Drive to check out the scenery. Hosts on the sidewalk try to lure you in as you walk by. I ignored them like usual and continue walking, but my friend was lured in by the 2 for 1 margaritas so I complied. We sat down and ordered, then 2 gigantic margaritas arrived,(knowing that a second fishbowl of margarita was coming) I began to realize there was no way I could finish this one let alone a second. Then it started to dawn on me that we never saw a price list and I began to wonder what on earth the price would be… I was growing wary of finishing my fishbowl and we wanted to move on to another location so we asked for the check and I didn’t bother getting my second free margarita as I’m sure I’d end up fave down in the street if I drank it. The bill came back $ 91!!! $ 91 for each of us ordering a 2 for 1 margarita and no food plus a mandatory 20% service fee!!! Needless to say my friend was a bit upset with what he thought would be a deal turning out to be an extreme overcharge. Don’t make the same mistake, keep on walking unless you’re fine with feeling like you were taken advantage of. So far not the best first impression on our first day in Miami Beach…

Touristy place on Ocean Drive in the heart of South Beach with huge drinks: check. Exactly what you’d expect: overpriced, under alcoholed. Automatic gratuity. Glad I had my tourist fun but definitely wouldn’t go back!

This was the first restaurant we stopped at while walking down ocean Blvd in South Beach. Initially we were enticed by the free shot of patron, but ended up staying for the paella, which was the best I have ever had. We got the Lobster Paella and two margaritas, which was way more than enough for the two of us! The drinks are massive and the food is incredible. Yes it is pricey, as has been mentioned in almost every other review of this place, but what do you expect? It’s South Beach! This place is well worth the money. Amazing atmosphere, great service, and outstanding food. We can’t wait to go back!

Is there anything less than 1 star? We order a plate to split so they charged us the plate times 2!!! The calamari was rubber we couldn’t eat it and when we mention it it was more of an awkward look and that’s that! I guess we fall like any other one that comes here and leaves the same type of review! Never again Amarillo… Never again!

!!! Attention!!! it is very nice restaurant. But they are scamers. They invite you for lunch — HAPPYHOUR. Every food for 9,95 $. And big drinks and coctails 1 + 1 for free. Every drinks cost 40 – 48 $ !!! So over priced!!! And than you pay 20% more for SERVICE — and that is not TIP. So first read and considered and than go inside. Bye guys.

Rip off. This place looked good. We ordered 2 burgers and a children’s meal. Cocoanut shrimp to start. Food was fine. Service was slow, we ordered cokes and waters. The water turned out to be bottled water. That surprised us, then we were surprised again when they cost like $ 6. The sodas were almost $ 5 bucks each, then they wacked us again for the refills. Everything took too long to come out. The final bill included a 20% service fee. We were told that wasn’t the tip. To top off the entire experience, the waitress wrote down my name, drivers lic number, birthdate, and lic exp. date on the receipt. This was because my debit card didn’t have raised numbers. I use this card all the time and don’t need that information. In a world where identity theft is a major problem I can’t imagine a business owner would want the liability of having all this information on file.

THEWORSTSERVICE! Actually they changed their business name for«Amarillo» they used to call«Papagayo» but the poor and disgusting service still. I don’t understand how this kind of places still open. They offer 2×1 in drinks to sit people but then they steal your second drink. Despite each drink is $ 35 they bill you 20% for«service charge», service charge that you never gonna have. The manager is negligent and the servers especially Ximena are very impolite and unprofessional. Never come again!

NOTE: I posted this before I realized that this restaurant used to be called Papagayo. It’s not Papagayo anymore… It’s Amarillo. It’s probably under new management/owner, or a completely different restaurant. So I’m not sure why my review is under the previous restaurant’s Unilocal page. Nevertheless, my review is not for Papagayo but for Amarillo. While visiting with friends in Miami, we stopped in at this place. While walking by, it looked like it had a cool, upbeat vibe. And by the looks of the drinks we saw them serving, we were definitely curious to take a peek in! Of course, I decided to Unilocal it first just to make sure the hype was real. But before we could say, «uh… maybe next time», hostess was selling us on all the changes they have made to their menu… telling us about their HAPPYHOUR special blah blah… Before you know it. we found ourselves seated at a table off of Ocean Drive. The ambience was perfect and the gorgeous day definitely livened up our mood to give this place a try. We’re glad we did. My friends and I shared the Giant mojito and giant miami vice 60 ounces with their buy 1 get 1 free as one of their Happy Hour Specials. I tried their Paella with lobster. Was delicious! Honestly, wherever there’s Paella, I just can’t turn it down. Portion size was pretty good… bigger than I expected. Had to share and it with my friend. Actually brought me back to Costa Rica where I had seafood paella for the first time. yum! Again, the vibe is upbeat and I think they may have lowered their prices cause we didn’t get an outrageous bill like the previous customers. Unfortunately, I didn’t hold on to the receipt, so I can’t remember the exact bill, but I’ll try to see if one of my friends held on to it and will try to upload it here. It was very reasonable in my opinion. Well, it looks like there’s definitely been positive changes to this place based on previous reviews. They DO have prices on their menu contrary to someone’s previous complaint about not seeing the prices. Perhaps that was one of the things they changed. Wanted to leave this review because I think they are really worth a try. It looks like they’ve made great efforts to listen to their previous customers, since my friends and I had a great experience here. Hope this review helps.
