Mentor-Way Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Inc

I have a family member convalescing here at Mentor Way Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. I have mixed feelings about this place; the staff I’ve interacted with– Nursing, janitorial, administrative, were caring and proactive generally. To help the patients recuperate they have a parakeet named Applejack that entertains in the lobby. There are a few courtyards where patients can get fresh air and sunshine while out of the wind.
My concerns are with the run down condition of the facility. My family member’s room was without heat for 4 days during cold Ohio winter nights, despite bringing the issue up several times. We were not allowed to bring a space heater or heating blanket due to their concern with patient safety. The facilities staff didn’t seem to have a clue on how to fix the heater– what does that tell you about the place. Every appliance, stick of furniture, bed and wheelchair are beat and look awful. Many of the TV’s are without remote controls and a lot of the patients can’t get out of bed to turn it on or off let alone change the channel or volume without assistance.
Compared to two other Nursing Homes I’ve visited recently, this one is the last I’d recommend.
