This Pirtle’s location is strictly a drive through. They have the same good service, great chicken, and fair prices as all their other locations. I often get their chicken and rice with gravy bowl, as it’s really good.

This is the best Southern fried chicken on the planet. Not just chicken, though. .. I have loved the steak sandwich for a lifetime. Whenever I go, I may get gizzards, fried chicken dinner box, whatever but I always add a large gravy. It is a beverage! I put it on everything. I even added a little to my Thanksgiving gravy and gave it a fabulous taste no one could identify. I kept my mouth shut and enjoyed the compliments. This Memphis institution is as good as it gets. The crust on that chicken is to die for!

Please don’t ever go here around 9 pm. If you have a large order, they will not grant that order according to Walisha who was at the window when I ordered. I will never go here again, she actually got mad at me for ordering. I will be placing a call to the powers that be. #don’t work if you can’t take an order!

nasty, greasy… it’s not chicken, it’s vulture meat — the worst chicken in town… a good way to commit sepiku — yes, it will disembowel you and make you suffer a long and painful fate before your death. AVOID

This review isn’t particularly for this location, just solely based on the food. I will say this one is open later than the rest which is nice after a night. The normal fried chicken is solid a good 4 stars. Livers and gizzards are a bit greasy yet dry, very earthy and now I know I don’t like them — personal preference if chicken parts are your thing have at it. Now I read rave reviews about their steak sandwich and I have to say I was disappointed. The bun was a nice size and the pickles were pretty tasty. Coleslaw on it was standard grocery store, no real complaints though they could add a bit more. So the steak; it was dry. It did not fill the bun and was really uneven. Didn’t taste like beef. Gravy was overwhelming. I’m willing to try it plain next time though. Their other foods like sides are kinda meh to me as well, biscuits are not my favorite. Again I will say their chicken is really good, go for it, skip the sides though.

The chicken made at JPC is the best hands down. I love the biscuits and gravy along with the fries. Sometimes when I want to change up I eat the corn or rice with gravy. But my entire family loves the chicken, livers, & gizzards. The steak sandwich is another late night crave for me after I leave the club. I didn’t take any pictures last time I was here because I was running to the Memphis airport but when I return home to Memphis in a few weeks I will give a lot of pictures. JP has been around since 1957 longer than I’ve been alive I didn’t come along till 1980. My point is I grew up on this chicken and its one of a kind taste. I worked here as a teen. So I know just what to order because I use to make my own food at this location when ever my manager would allow it. I heard rumor that JP will have merchandise soon so I’m excited maybe I will get a tee shirt when I return home. If they have any… I give them five stars total. Because each time I visit home I have to make JP a must stop before I leave town. I crave this chicken at least 4 times per week. I may decide to move back home just to get this chicken more often.

Some people like this place, some hate it — I say go try it for yourself. I ordered the Steak sandwich since all the reviews were raving about it. It was… well, different. Had gravy on it, cole slaw, and on a bun. I was hungry and ate it, couldn’t really decide if I liked it or not. So I gave it a 3. I can say the place was not the cleanest, nor was it in the best area.

They should change the name of the place to Jack Pirtle’s Steak Sandwich Shop. The Jack Pirtle original steak sandwich is a thick chicken-fried steak, dressed with slaw, pickles and a gravy that’s laced with something addictive, spilling out of a toasty bun. I have no clue what they put in that sauce. But yum. Here’s my convo at the drive through: Voice: how may I help you? Me: a friend told me I had to try the steak sandwich. I heard it’s great. Voice: OH yeah, it’s good. What [do] you want on it? Me: I dunno, whatever’s recommended. Voice: Gravy, pickles and slaw. Me: Hook me up. Voice: $ 4.65 please. Drive around. A drive-around and $ 4.65 later, I pulled into one of the parking spots and got to work on this humble work of art. Tip: have plenty of napkins handy. If you’re new to Memphis, or long-time Memphis resident and just need a dose of 901 culture, Jack Pirtle’s is a must.

I went to another JP and they were out of steak sandwiches. So my husband drove me to this location. We arrived at Jack Pirtle’s only 2 minutes before they closed. The employees at this location graciously served us and were very kind. On a cold and rainy night, when I’m sure they were ready to go home, I was given excellent service. The steak sandwich was delicious. I always eat mine witha bag of Lay’s plain potato chips. It sets the taste off like nothing else! If you haven’t had the steak sandwich yet… don’t wait! Go get one. You’re likely to get excellent service with this gravied culinary marvel.

Gotta love some Pirtles. I would drink a 12oz cup of the gravy if they’d let me!
