I live the beer selection, so many local beers. It’s in cooper young. The service is quick a d friendly. The décor is nice. I want to try more of their food. We ordered pretzels. I thought they’d be the big homemade ones but they were pretty much store bought chip style. I’d go back for more beer. They have wifi so it could be a nice place to get some work done.

This is one of those places you go to and usually there is someone you know already there. All the best beer on tap and even some food so you don’t have to drink on an empty stomach. Hammer & Ale seems to have easily become a Midtown staple.

I think we went at the wrong time(3pm on Friday). Visiting for the weekend, my wife and I expected the place to be busy with the sunny day, but we were the ONLY two in the place for about an hour. The beer selection is solid, but the place is a snooze-fest: it’s just a big shed full of kegs and stools. Also, I think they’re going a bit overboard with the«craft» mentality: «24 craft beers — craft food — craft atmosphere & craft customer service» — their actual Twitter bio. What is «craft customer service»?

This is a fun local place to check out. They serve plenty of local beer, and recently, some good sandwich options. They also have growlers. The owners are very friendly. They do have TVs if you want to watch a game, but the place is fairly small and can get very crowded and loud. The only thing I don’t like is their chairs. Even though they do have some couches, the majority of their seating consists of metal tables and stools which are not comfortable at all. My back usually starts hurting after sitting there for 30mins. But if you’re looking for a cool local bar to take your out-of-town friends to, this would be a great choice.

Keeping it simple, this place serves up plenty of local beer favorites and some worthwhile food. The staff was very helpful in selecting the pints and were casual and friendly. I had the cuban sandwich, which was so good, especially after a couple beers. This is kind of a smaller pub, but it wasn’t too packed for our group of 5. They do growler fill ups too! Also, I’m definitely trying one of their«beer floats» next time I’m there.

Super local beer and snack hangout! Great to stop in after a local 5k event! I discovered this gem at Christmas looking for a unique local gift to give others. I purchased there own signature growler, reusable bag, and gift card. It was the perfect gift for our friends!!!

The guys that own this place are amazing! The service is great, the beer selection is large and ever-changing, the sandwiches are killer. It’s quiet and down to earth, and if you really love a beer you can get a growler to take home with you. I’ve been a semi-regular customer here since the weekend they opened, and I will keep coming here as long as I’m in Memphis.

Um this place is the coolest and I’m honestly mad I didn’t come her sooner. You get to sample so many beers at such a great price! Super fun idea! I’m also prettaaayyy indecisive and I like having options! I think theres usually about 35 on tap, but they do change them out as the day goes on. The atmosphere is awesome and the bartender answered every single one of my annoying questions! Highly recommend it for a sunday fun day :)! Oh yeah… they only take debit and credit cards!

Really enjoyed going here for a few beers and watching some basketball. It’s pretty low key, which I enjoy. We got a few beer flights of mostly local brews, which the staff was very knowledgeable on. I would recommend this place for any beer lover or really just anyone who wants to enjoy some drinks in a chill atmosphere.

If you’re in midtown you have to check this place out! Obviously you have to be 21 to be here but forreal they have some great beers that you just can pass on tasting! The bar dudes were really nice and totally open to me writing a review on Unilocal. We tried two 4 sampler beers which were each $ 6.00 a piece which is really fucking good for a beer sampler plate! The restroom is chill and the whole atmosphere makes you feel like you’re just drinking at your house. I was thrilled to try this place and it was everything I wanted it to be. Chill. Sick. Fun. Try it!

«Credit and Debit card only, no cash?» I wondered about this for a while, even talked about it with my friends as I’d never seen anything like that before. Also, there was a nice Porsche parked outside. I don’t normally go to bars with Porsches in front of them. We wanted a quick beer, and have a debit card, so we popped in. It’s a growler place that sells single glasses of beer and small plates. First impression«it’s really quiet in here, and they’re watching HGTV on the 1TV here, and no music? That’s different» I also noticed that stereotypical lumbersexual standing at the counter, long beard, tight jeans, boots, flannel shirt tucked in, suspenders and hair messy, but so perfect. The guy behind the counter was really friendly and nice, from the 1 minute inside it appeared that we were not his normal clientele, but he was extremely welcoming and answered all of my questions about the beer. So you know, the prices on the board are for growlers, a single glass of any beer is $ 5. We bought our beers and sat down at a table. The 8 people inside were clearly very into watching some home renovation show on HGTV, I almost felt bad talking to my friends while it was on. Since it was a quick beer we wanted when we finished(oh, the beers were delicious, I had a Yazoo), put our finished glasses on the counter and left. Overall, good beer, fair price, friendly service. This just isn’t the type of bar I normally hang out at. I also don’t hang at sports bars, so whatever is on TV doesn’t matter to me. If I lived here I might pop in for a growler, otherwise I prefer my bars where people can talk without interrupting the HGTV renovation shows. If that’s what you’re looking for this may be the perfect place for you.

Wrote a review under the old name«The Growler.» Just wanted to make sure I put it here as well because of the great service I received: Stopped here on a cross-country road trip. Found it using Unilocal,so figured I’d review so others can do the same! Pretty good selection of beer, not fantastic. It’s too bad that per TN regulations, they can’t sell beers above a certain % ABV(I think it’s 6% or so). Regardless – really cool, rustic and minimalist décor. Open space, couches, and TVs that would be good for hanging out with friends, but it’s not loud. Owners are knowledgeable, friendly, and down to earth. We had a nice long convo with them. We also bought a growler to bring out to CA, and it had a tiny crack in it that nobody noticed at purchase time. It ended up slowly leaking beer all over our car and staining the cloth seats. I called once we got to CA, and the owners refunded our entire bill! The stain came out when we used that money to detail the car. Really nice«customer service.» This is our thank you. If we were in Memphis again, we would definitely stop by.

My favorite new place to grab a beer and a bite in Memphis. I love the atmosphere, and the bartenders/owners and exceedingly friendly and helpful. It has the feel of nice pubs I’ve seen up north. The menu isn’t extensive, but it’s all good. I plan to make it a weekly stop at least. Huge thumbs up.

A great place to grab a pint or two. A large rotating selection of local and regional craft beers to choose from. Beer, food and a great place for conversation. Especially if you don’t want to deal with the typical loud bar scene of other establishments.

Stopped by today before a dinner reservation. We had the flight, 4 different beers. Loved the selections and the cheese plate as an appetitzer for our dinner. Great atmosphere, will return!

The Hammer & Ale has a great… but smaller beer selection for growlers from most stores, the thing that stands out is the customer service. It is outstanding. David had the knowledge of a beer head but did not come across as snotty or overbearing. They also have a small plate menu(reasonably priced). I didn’t try it, but over heard others say it was good.
