This course was a pleasant surprise. My normal foursome includes one friend who lives in Marysville. We usually Play Marysville Golf Club, but this place is a little nicer and I’ll happily play here again. Everything was in good condition and the club house is nice.

My first and only visit to Darby Creek Golf Course was excellent. I’ll add some window dressing in a minute as to why I was there. But here’s my take. The golf course was incredibly fun and wonderfully challenging. There’s a saying in golf that when a course takes you to every club in your golf bag — you’ve got a winner. Darby Creek does this with course design and I loved it. The Front Nine is known for it’s «links-style» layout while the Back Nine is mostly carved out of woodland property. That design is in and of itself terrific. Why? Because you roll from front to back you find yourself coming to grips with a touch of claustrophobia. Very few trees then. lots of ‘em. All the clubs! Long par 5s, short reachable-in-two par 5s. Short, mid and long range par 4s. Short, mid and long par 3s. Over water, around corners, up and down hills, chip-and-run, high over water, curve around trees… it’s all there for a golfer who loves to be challenged and likes diversity. The greens are sometimes flat’ish and sometimes very undulating. The fee structure is about average. The location is a bit«out there». Be sure you have a GPS unit in your car because signs for the course don’t pop up until you’re about 2 miles away and meandering through farms. The clubhouse is spacious, the pro shop helpful and the range is grass and decent. I’ve got to find time to return to Darby Creek Golf Course. My day was spent playing in a 4-man scramble event that took 6-hours to play using cart path only. And I still came away thinking Darby Creek was a very real golf experience. Play Darby Creek!
