Rockin customer service, middle-class friendly prices, and tasty vegetarian dishes. Salsa tasted a little watery, maybe it was just a bad batch.

Here on a Sat. afternoon after lunch hour. The service is horrible. We have been waiting 20 minutes and the hostess had to take our drink order, although there are waiters milling around. Based on this I will not be back. The hosted. Also took our food order. Worst Mexican restaurant experience ever!

The food is great, and quite authentic. The service is good, and you couldn’t ask for a better view of Marquette! The price is right and the portions are pretty big! I definitely recommend this place if you’re ever in Marquette and are hungry for something more than a pasty ;)

Sol Azteca is a great authentic Mexican restaurant in Marquette. The food is generously portioned and is very well priced(I would say a bargain). They have a pretty large selection there and the lunch menu is very good too. The service is very good. It gets busy sometimes, but the wait is worth it. The location on the waterfront is great and interior atmosphere is very nice. The complimentary chips and salsa are very tasty. I usually get the fajitas, which have excellent flavor and is plentiful. They could provide one more tortilla with this dish as there is a lot of food! I love spicy hot food and the food is not spicy hot here. I have asked for hot sauce/salsa, but they only have a house chipolte salsa that is a little hot. Perhaps it is just the style of food or region they are from that super hot peppers are not the way they cook. They do have some jars of habanero sauce, though I was looking for some peppers. Overall, this is a very nice place to eat.

I had the Carnitas(pork) tacos. The meal came with 3 tacos, rice and beans. The tacos were very good. Rice and beans were as good as most Mexican restaurants. I had a margarita on the rocks. Decent. I like mine a bit stronger but it was as good as most Mexican restaurants. Next time, I’d try the top shelf Tequila. I ordered queso with our chips. Very good. We were here on a Thursday night. It was busy. Our wait was about 20 minutes.

Excellent service view and food. It’s rare to find a good clean Mexican restaurant and this is it.

We had a late lunch here and it was great! Kids ate every last bite of their chicken burritos, luckily ordered from the lunch menu as the waitress had my 11 yr old set up with the $ 11 something something which would have ended up being exactly what I found on the lunch page for a whopping 6 bucks! You don’t order a kid the expensive chicken burrito and then kick out and off everything but the chicken. Especially when his little sister is across from him saying«yep yep, that’s what I want too!» Unless of course you’re hiking up someone’s bill… hoping for a much higher tip… Anways, that aside, we also had the queso and a couple of bowls of salsa. The chips we’re crispy and fresh, still hot even! Steak fajitas were great and my chimichanga was very good as well. Can’t wait to return, this will definitely be a place we add to our restaurant list of must haves whenever we’re in town!

The food here is very good — of what arrived at the table. Problem with my visit was we were a group of 15 and were assigned a server whose first day was three/four days prior… with no additional assistance. Not only were orders wrong, but orders were not brought out together so the eldest in our group was served her dish after most everyone else had finished. One order never arrived, several others had to be reordered and we had two orders of fajitas, one never received the tortillas even after asking several times only to have them arrive when they were done eating. One ordered beef tacos only to be served chicken even after he repeatedly asked for beef upon ordering — ate them because at least he received his food! We asked for a manager to help fix our order problems. A woman who never identified herself tried to get food delivered to our table, but she too, kept bringing the wrong items. Since this is the UP, I kept our complaints within the group. We felt terrible for the new server. But seriously, the management here really should work on table assignments according to how big a group is. This young man should have at least had a helper! Our visit was at 5pm on a Sunday, July 12, 2015.

Sat on the terrace outside on a nice evening. Server was kind and the food was worth the wait, didn’t take long either. Had the beef burrito fajitas with a side of beans, rice, sour cream, cheese, and fresh shredded lettuce. Genuine ingredients made for a delicious meal. We’ll be back!

Beautiful restaurant. We loved sitting out on the deck on a perfect summer day. Chips and salsa plentiful and delicious. Enchiladas and burritos very good. Prices very reasonable. Kids menu was an excellent value – my kids eat a lot and were stuffed. Service was the fastest we’ve had in this city!

Sol Azteca has certainly gotten on the right track! The Loco is still on the menu and we just ignore it. I guess someone out there enjoys it! The margaritas are huge here. Sol Azteca has become super busy since obtaining their liquor license so plan on waiting for a table because they do not take reservations. There are plenty of seats by the bar while you wait though.

I went back to Sol Azteca with friends a couple of weeks ago, and my review of the food is still the same – some items are really good, and others are so so. However, they have gotten their liquor license, and I wanted to add that they do make a very good margarita. I went for the top shelf, and it was delicious with the tequila flavor upfront, not disguised by a cheap lemon-lime mix. Since it was early April, of course, we ate inside.(Not dissing Marquette, but you don’t do outdoor cafes there until probably June.) The interior is gorgeous! Just like Latitude downstairs, Sol Azteca takes advantage of the beauty of the old building, showing off the brick and steel structure. It’s a nice space with lovely views of Lake Superior through the big windows. A Mexican place like this is not what most people would expect in The Great White North, and it’s a nice experience. We’ll continue to go back.

Great location on the water. The dining room is really comfortable and open. Cheap and tasty lunch specials. Free chips and salsa. Great service. I will definitely come back here again. And maybe now that they have a liquor license I will get a margarita next time!

FYI: I don’t drink, but THEYNOWHAVE A LIQUORLICENSE The view is probably the best you will find in any Mexican Restaurant int the state, and it helps that it’s in my favorite city in the state. No matter the weather, the view is worth it. The food is great, the service is typical Mexican Restaurant service… good, but they seem to not realize that drink refills are part of the deal, but they are pleasant and the food makes up for it. I had the Enchilada’s Supreme and my wife had the Steak Fajita’s and both of them were good enough to make you eat way more than any healthy human being should. If you are in Marquette and looking for good food, a beautiful view, and you are on a budget… EATHERE

So far so good! Sol Azteca shows promise of being the hottest new venue in Marquette. The only problem? They don’t have a liquor license! I was visiting from Chicago, and I wanted to meet here with a friend. She’s super awesome and always on the go. I was hoping I could get a few drinks in her so she’d slow down for a minute. No such luck, she showed up in her pickup truck with horse feed in the back. Forecast called for rain! We didn’t order much. We just got chips and dip. The queso con espinacas was tasty and strongly mirrored what other chain restaurants offer for an appetizer. The view of the harbor was incredible. I wish they had just made the whole back wall a giant window. I cannot believe how much the waterfront has changed since I graduated NMU in 1999. Seems like Marquette is starting to look like a trendy little town! I have tentatively made plans to visit next year with one of my friends from Chicago. I really hope I get the chance to experience Sol Azteca in full swing!

A new restaurant that is obviously still getting things organized(minimal décor, no liquor licenses); however despite being nearly a full house, the food was fast and good. The complimentary chips and salsa were good, the salsa was flavorful(a bit on the spicy side, but not hot). I had the Camerones al mojo de ajo, my partner had Camerones al diabla. We were pleased with the amount of large shrimp in each dish. The child who hates everything said the chicken nuggets were the best she has ever had(they looked like standard gross breaded blobs to me, but take it from the pickiest kid on the planet, they are good). Both the adult dishes were served with a modest portion of rice, and flour tortillas. My partners also came with refried beans. The place was very busy and the noise volume made it somewhat difficult to converse. Overall the location is amazing, beautiful view of Superior for some of the seating, courteous service, and a good meal.

In what might be the best looking restaurant setting in town, a Mexican eatery now sits. They’ve only been open for about 6 weeks, and reviews so far have been mixed. It seems fitting that my feelings about are mixed as well. The initial service is fast and friendly. The follow-up was a little wanting. I had the Parrillada Fajitas(a sort of Barbecued mix-up of different meats) which promised chicken, pork, steak, chorizo, and shrimp. I’m not sure if there was any chorizo or grilled pork in there, but the steak, chicken, and shrimp were all ok. A little overcooked and under seasoned, maybe, but not bad. I felt like a squeeze of lime and a drizzle of hot sauce might improve the moisture and flavor. We waited for about 5 more minutes for our server to come back by(who only had one other table at the time) and asked for these additions, which took a little while, again… That was kind of disappointing. The house made hot sauce was really good, though! My cohort had some cheese enchiladas, and after trying to discern what kind of cheese she was not fully enjoying was, we asked. «Um… American… ‘white’ cheese???» was the response. Not the answer we were hoping for, but not overly surprising, either. All in all, this is the type of Am-Mex place you find in strip malls all over the country. And that’s fine. When they get their liquor license, I’m sure you’ll be able to have a margarita in a fish-bowl, made with a ‘mix’.
