It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the hatchery has a bit of flair. It’s a breakfast, lunch and brunch place. They developed a new menu a few months ago. The menu is not only better, but it’s in nice card stock and it’s visually pleasing. It’s definitely the best of the few options as far as breakfast in the town, but there are issues. Price is very high, they don’t take cards, and the service is very slow. The food is worth it once it gets there and by all means you can have a couple drinks to pass the time.

This was a great experience and very good meal. Our server was so nice. When we are up here to ski we never venture off the mountain for breakfast. We had the opportunity and what a great breakfast. I had the poutine and it had a great sauce. My husband has the biscuits and gravy. 2 biscuits was too much! I think 1 opened would be better. We missed out on the Bloody Mary because we were there so early so we will have to go back :)

This place is hands down the best breakfast place in the area. My wife and I just returned there after some time and we were delighted by the completely revamped menu. Everything is homemade and sure tastes it. Even the maple syrup is family made. The cinnamon bun French toast is ridiculously awesome. My wife had the poutine… AMAZING!!! Homemade pop tart… whaaaat? We tried it and believe it or not, it’s reason enough to stop at this place.

Went here 2 times and service was so slow the second time we walked out but not before thay tried to charge us 6 bucks for two tiny cups of horrible coffee. Yes, there was only one waitress but she only had 4 tables. Go across the street to Café Delight for a great, and quick, breakfast.

I’m not sure if I’m just spoiled with NYC food but I swear nothing here is up to par… I just wouldn’t recommend eating around here…

Great place for breakfast or lunch… Came two days in a row and the manager welcomed me back. Highly recommend the Bloody Mary, French toast and Belgian waffles.

Service was horrible. We sat for 20 minutes before somebody came to our table. Really expensive, nearly double average breakfast prices.

Large menu with some pricey items. Corned beef hash not out of can but from chunks of corned beef but creative spices may be off putting to the traditionalist. Nice choice of bread. good range of specials to choose from. But…décor can use a face lift, and make sure you have cash as they don’t accept credit cards. If you are on a budget go across the street. Note the location is at main st. Cka

Food was delicious, we had the Ver-monster and the Turk-oui sandwiches. Atmosphere was great sad the staff was helpful. You won’t regret it.

CASHONLY! The food is better then the Jackson Inn breakfast for the same price. Big portions. Right downtown.

The huevos rancheros were really good. It tasty and a relatively good portion. My boyfriend got the hash plate which was a bit smaller portion than anticipated. The hash was not as good as we’ve had at other places, but it was still decent. A reminder that it’s cash only! The staff were relatively friendly, and the place was not too crowded when we went(Sunday at around 12pm). Though we came in the off-season, so I can imagine it probably gets more crowded during the ski season.

Cozy spot. All around great breakfast food. Blueberry pancakes hit the spot. Prompt service. Definitely a place to hit while in town.

Four years after my review, I wondered if I was being too harsh on this place. Perhaps. We came in recently, and the food was… pretty much the same as I remember. Which isn’t such a bad thing. The spanish eggs had great homemade salsas. And the bacon is still delicious. But this isn’t gourmet breakfast. More like a diner fare. Certainly good, but nothing to rave about. The better breakfast near town seems to be VT Apple Pie. And a reminder — STILL cash only after all these years.

Definitely no frills dining but really tasty food and great service. I had the Spanish eggs and was impressed by the house made salsas. My partner had the special crab cake benedict. The hollandaise was delightful, very flavorful and light. The homefries were great! We also had a mimosa which was a surprise and a perfect orange juice/champagne ratio. Cash only. Bring your ID for booze.

These people only get a1 star because I am NOT allowed to give a 0-star. Bacon was rubber. Scrambled eggs were a flat disk from a pan. No substitutes for toast and home fries on breakfast plate. Food came out fast. Tasted«ok»… Serious lack of attention to detail. 0% chance I would willingly return. Then at the end when it’s time to pay I find out that it’s «cash only» and of course there’s no sign telling me before I entered the restaurant it was cash only. This place sucked.

The rundown: –Cash only –typical diner fare, although I noticed crab cakes on the menu which seems odd for a VT diner –friendly enough service — not necessarily cheap, but considering the large portions, it was a decent value –VT omelette was delicious, but I think they might use an egg substitute or thin the eggs

Adorable place. Total hole in the wall. Circa 1984, if that. Food was good. Very good. We went for lunch in early May and were the only people there. Pretty sure the only people in town too! We shared a salad and a sandwich. The salad was big– marinated mushrooms were super yummy– and the sandwich was grilled to perfection. Don’t expect five stars and expect the chairs to be wobbly, your hand might stick to the table, but those who work there are very sweet, the food is good, and they want to make you happy!

The service was excellent; they seated our party of 7 within less than 15 minutes, and they were cheery and polite even when they were slammed. With three different servers, our orders were taking quickly and food was delivered in a timely manner. The food was solid. Not amazing but very good. I’d give them 5 stars, but it was a little expensive for VT. For example, $ 2.25 for coffee is a little steep. And, as I said before, the food was pretty standard.

Had breakfast here twice while up at Okemo. Nice place, good service, and with a fine breakfast. The bacon is cut nice and thick which I really like. If I had any complaint, it would be the coffee. Not that it’s bad, but if the it had been on par with the food, I would have enjoyed my meals at The Hatchery even more. A few reviewers have stated that they prefer the place across the street, Café at Delight. I’ve also eaten there and while their food is good and their prices a little cheaper, I didn’t really find their breakfast better than The Hatchery. Given the choice of the two I’d return to The Hatchery.

This was an unexpected gem! We were looking for somewhere that served booze with breakfast(the locals we asked thought we were nuts) and noticed a hard written sign in the window for mimosas and bloody Mary’s…SOLD! While The Hatchery could certainly benefit from some aesthetic updates, we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the menu. I firmly believe all diners should offer the whole menu all day, and the Hatchery did! We got one of the specials — eggs Benedict over crab cakes. Reasonably priced, good size — 2 ample crab cakes with 2 eggs, toast, and adequate hollandaise. I’m far from an expert on eggs Benedict, but there was not a crumb to be had after a few minutes. We also got a cilantro omelette, which had a cilantro pesto… delightful. Omelette was cooked well, came with toast and home fries. Also, they had five or six hot sauce options… glorious! The chicken artichoke sandwich was perfect. I despise a two inch thick chunk of chicken breast on a sandwich, and this sandwich was PERFECT with an evenly thick slab of chicken breast, artichokes, avocado, bacon… I drool a little thinking about it. Came with chips. The coffee was good. The service was fine. The hot sauce options were exceptional. We were definitely surprised at the«trendy» ingredients and availability of «not-standard» diner fare.
