Glad it is there for when you need something in a pinch but the neighborhood would be much better served having a full fledged completely stocked grocery store here. The produce section is hit and miss.(Don’t come with too specific items in mind for a recipe or you’ll be disappointed) The liquor section(if you could call it that) is a joke. As many have noted the parking and shopping center in general is run down. Really wish a developer would come and revitalize this entire commercial space. There is so much potential and such a need in the neighborhood.

Washington Square Market. ok…so…a neighborhood market that I decided to visit to grab some containers that my friend had that I also wanted. Upon entering the market a weird smell slapped me in the face and I was thankful I wasn’t there to purchase food. I really can’t say much on the selection since my items were directly in front and based on the smell I was grateful. My checkout experience was average there were no lines. however the cashier didn’t even ask me if I wanted a bag. There is a parking lot that services the market, the swap meet, the post office and a few other stores. Overall, my expetience was ok.

They are good for anything thats Packaged. Such as ceral, milk, etc. But they are VERY subpar when it comes to produce. On multiple occasions, I have bit into an apple or a mango, mostly the apples though, and have discovered a rotten core, **PLAGHHH** !!! Don’t go there for the produce. Rather, go for packaged items or the Deli.

So I thought this place had better deals than another market that I went to. I was wrong. For some deals with coupons, make sure you read the fine tiny print. On some coupons you have to spend a minimum of $ 20 to use some coupon. For instance, the eggs! It looked like a good deal… but not until it was brought to my attention that you have to spend $ 20 or more. And the juice looked like a good deal. When I saw the actual product, it looked like it was condensed with loads of sugar and coloring liquid. Some of the fruit were cheap though. But you can probably get this price at other markets. I don’t think I’m coming back. Most of the stuff are from Mexico. So if you like products from there, this is the place for you.

Washington Square is one of Mid Cities best-kept secrets, but you have to do your homework. They’re prices are great for meats, eggs, fruits, vegetables and rice. However, can-goods, boxed meals, most drinks and frozen foods are cheaper at Ralph’s ect. WSM really comes in handy on those days when your pocket-book is light. You can get a pack of chicken legs, leg quarters ect for about $ 4. The location needs a serious upgrade though. It’s located in a shopping plaza that has seen better days. If you don’t mind the look, you can really save a buck or too.

This whole shopping center could benefit from a makeover. The parking lot is atrocious. It’s confusing. The security is a joke. All they do is sit outside on their golf cart and talk on their phones. I’ve seen them texting and have long conversations. They don’t secure anything. The market is decent. I’ve gotten one or two items there. The only reason, I go over there is for the post office. I used to go to the Payless but it’s gone.

They get a two rating from me, for just being here. Can’t beat not having a store in the neighborhood, when you need one. The only thing is, the prices here are extremely expensive!!! I mean, golly, geeze, wiz… If it wasn’t for being the only grocery store in the neighborhood, the prices wouldn’t be so outlandish… Oh and they don’t give cash back unless you spend over $ 10, which defeats the purpose of cash back. If I wanted to spend $ 20, i’d just go to an ATM.

Looks like I’m the first to review this place hmm… It was seriously walking distance from the spot but we always drove. I wouldn’t say it’s the cheapest place but they had a good variety of cuts of meat as well as a bunch of marinated stuff to bbq. Ranging from chicken, carne asada, fresh taco meat and what have you, it wasn’t too expensive and is sold by the pound. I would have to say that’s what this place is good for if you’re near by. They also have some decently priced fresh produce which is also good. You’re able to find a bunch of latin goods here.(Did I use the proper term here? Sorry I don’t mean to offend anyone). But this place isn’t crazy busy like a Ralph’s or anything mainly the locals. Other than that if you’re trying to get like a lot of name brand type products from a spot you’re better off to hit up the Ralphs on Venice Blvd. Place is fairly easy to find in the Washington Plaza on West Washington Blvd. Also you’ll see a bunch of a-frame signs along the entrance to the plaza with a bunch of deals they have going on. Need something quick and don’t want to drive far this place was the spot for us. P. S. don’t expect to find pesto and stuff like that here or variety of gourmet cheeses
