Tortilleria San Marcos

My secret place to buy tortillas… They make all sizes of tortillas that are perfect for the comal or burrito making. They make them right on sight so they are fresh and warm. I usually get the 10″ flour tortillas and tortillas de comal. It’s very inexpensive (always under $ 5). The employees are very nice. I usually pay cash and I’m not sure if they take cards. They also have some other groceries like chilis, spices, dairy, eggs, etc. In my opinion, it’s worth the drive to get fresh tortillas.

The worst masa for tamales ever. La «masa preparada» isn’t preparada enough. It’s quite dense and lacks the required amount of fat necessary to yield fluffy billowy tamales. The masa ruined the delicious fillings. #wompwompwomp

Thee best tortilla chips perfect para los chilaquiles! They’re crispy and not as salty as name brand chips. Super affordable too. They make their tortillas fresh and onsite everyday. I try to go Saturday mornings to get the freshest of the fresh. Although they don’t sell los paquetes de tortillas a la docena, I end up just buying their wheat flour tortillas which has only a dozen. I’m only one person, I don’t eat more than this. My mom swears by their masa for tamales, and we’ve tried different places sooo just saying :)

By far the best place to get your totillas de maiz, harina and masa. Since I was a child my mom would always buy her tortillas here. When she wasn’t up for making the masa for the tamales (let’s face it mom you were lazy or tired because of us, lol). This was place to get home made masa. They also have many authentic mexican groceries and mexican utensils for your kitchen. Stamped with ‘hecho en mexico’ and the seal of the aguila mexicana. Non of the made in china crap (no offense). They even had red heart shaped torilla chips. How awesome is that! Their factories are next door to the right and left of the store so your guaranteed freshness every time. One of the best known secrets of Boyle Heights.
