More like 3.5 stars, but I’ll bump it up to 4 just because of the nostalgia value and the fact that they’ve cleaned up the place. I used to come here all the time with my family, but eventually we found ourselves frequenting 1st Street Burgers just down the street. I decided to try Tom’s again for all time’s sake, and while the food was still good, it just wasn’t stellar. I hate to say it, but I still prefer 1st Street Burgers. I’ll still gladly eat here if given the opportunity though.

I remember coming to Toms as a child. Their chilli cheese fries are amazing!!! They are a must have. Their prices are pretty cheap & fulfilling.

We were pretty tired tonight after work, so we took advantage of Unilocal’s Eat 24 app to order Tom’s Burgers for delivery. The ordering process and delivery: We ordered a cheeseburger special(comes with fries and a drink), a cheeseburger on its own, chili cheese fries, and 5 tacos dorados de papa(fried potato tacos). Ordering through the app was very simple and there were plenty of photos to see what our food would look like. The delivery fee was about $ 5, which I found pretty steep, but it was nice not to have Chinese or pizza be the only option tonight. Upon ordering, the projected delivery time was 45 – 60 minutes, but I received a notification that said our order would be delivered sooner than expected(approx. 42 minutes, sweet!) The app notified us when the food was on the way. The driver sent me a text message on arrival describing his vehicle and saying his flashers were on. It took about 35 minutes from ordering to get our food, awesome! The driver was very polite and seemed surprised to receive a tip. The food: I ordered my burger medium well, but it came closer to medium. The flavor was good. My partner ordered his burger medium, it came medium but he felt that the burger was seasoned too heavily, making it a bit on the salty side. He received tons of fries… like three orders worth, even though we only asked for one order. The chili cheese fries were okay. I’ve had more flavorful chili at competing burger joints. I probably wouldn’t order them again. The tacos dorados were really good and the stand out of our order. They came packaged in their own box, lettuce and tomato in its own box, two salsa cups separate, and a large cup of the dipping salsa. It’s great that they packed them wisely so that the cold stuff would stay cold/hot stuff stays hot. When we finished eating, we realized we had another box. We asked for 5 tacos, but we received about 12? I’m not sure if each order was more than one taco? Or if they sent extra because it was closer to closing time. Either way, we appreciated the extra food and look forward to the leftovers. Overall, we would definitely order again. I would love to try other signature foods from Tom’s, especially since it’s close by. If I could change anything, it would be the delivery cost. After that fee plus tip, that was $ 10 alone on service.

I ordered two cheeseburger specials to get delivered. The delivery was fast and the food was good. The only thing I did not like was the thousand island dressing. It was just mayo and did not taste like thousand. I bought a lot of them and won’t be eating them

I loved these tacos! Just so goood! They now take credit cards and the place is remodeled and clean new tables! I hear their chili and Pastrami are very good and I will try it next time! The guys who work here are very nice and professional! Thank you for being in my neighborhood!

I’ve been coming to this place since before I could walk. The food here is always been good especially when it’s hot. The burgers are great, the chili cheese fries are exceptional but the pastrami wins the prize hands down. The sandwich comes piping hot and the rolls are soft French bread. Only one other place has better pastrami and it’s a small chain nearby. You can call ahead to put in your order and it’ll be ready in 5 minutes. Order your fries extra crispy and cover them with ketchup off the pump bottle on the counter. The burgers come sizzling hot off the grill with thick slices of beefsteak tomato, lettuce and pickles. And this being East LA, yellow jalapeño peppers are included with everything Like I said before I’ve been coming to this place since I was a little kid, almost 40 years now. They’ve just had a major upgrade, all the tables and benches have been replaced with nicer faux granite table tops and wooden benches. The menu boards are now computer displays instead of the old snap-on letter white boards and rotate through different pictures of the various items offered there. And of course the big sign on the pole has been upgraded as well.

You cannot go wrong with their hamburger special. Dont complain about the fucken burritos and steak sandwich at a burger place. Dont be retarded. Its a burger place. Try their burgers.

Best potato tacos!!! This little gem is great if your group can’t decide if they want really good tacos or a really good burger! Fries and onion rings are always fresh and tasty! There is parking right off 1st street. They have great family specials(see photos) 4 burgers 4 fries and 4 drinks for 20 bucks! Every day of the week there is a special. I love Tuesdays it’s Carne asada taco day! They are also famous for their Carne asada dogs! It’s Carne asada in a hot dog bun! It’s for the meat and bread lovers of the world’s perfect meal! Service is great and fast. Beware potato tacos take a little longer but that’s the only set back! The guys who work the window have been there for over 20 years! Remember to bring CASH!

So my boyfriend and I came across this burger place and decided to try it out. We saw on Unilocal that it had good reviews so we took a chance. Well BAD idea! This place is not worth it at all! I ordered a stake sandwich and it was horrible, it had no flavor what so ever. The french fries were not fresh and some of them were burnt at the ends, they tasted like the oil was old. My boyfriend decided to try a burrito and that was bad as well! It had no flavor at all! The meat was so tough to chew just like the stake sandwich. All in all a bad burger joint!!! We’ve been to some real good ones and I can honestly say isn’t one of them. Other locations we have tried have had really good Steak sandwich and Mexican burritos. We will not be returning to this place!!!

We Unilocal the nearest burger spot. My girlfriend got a steak sandwich and I got a carne Asada burrito. Both items were bland and the carne has a lot of nerve on it. The fries were also horrible. They tasted like old vegetable oil. I am not sure how this place got 4 ½ stars. Maybe they make good burgers but the rest of their menu sucks. Honestly I’m not even interested in trying their burgers after I tasted the items I purchased from them. High life in south Pasadena is way better

East L.A. has many great restaurants including hamburger stands, but Tom’s hamburger stand I remember since was a child. My parents always shop at first street department store after shop we to Tom’s burgers for dinner. It’s been many years I haven’t to Tom burgers since even I can’t remember. I love pastrami very much I have to couple of places try their pastrami, some were good and but others were disappointed due to too salty not enough meat or flavor. I order the pastrami combo then open the wrapper wow it have lots of pastrami meat I was surprise then, I tasted the pastrami it was very good but it wasn’t salty. That’s good but it need more flavor overall, Tom burgers have been on location first street for 50 years.

Onion rings… Perfectly legitimate good to the last bite out of the greasy brown paper bag delightful. Another staple of my childhood growing up in the area and as far as mom and pop burger joint goes this sets the standards that all follow for me. The burgers are solid quality, the fries are your standard fare. Hot/chili dogs are almost as good bang for buck as costco hotdogs and the pastrami or a steak sandwich hits the spot as good as any other spot.

I’ve been coming here since I was 5 years old or before I can remember. The best East LA burgers and pastrami sandwiches!!! Still same quality and great taste that I’ve been coming back for year after year. The burgers are griddled and have shredded lettuce and mustard(no catchup). They dip the pastrami bread in a dark Au Ju, oh so good. Don’t order the Mexican food here. I’ve never tried it but come on people, it’s a hamburger stand that’s been around since the early 1950’s. They specialize in burgers, pastrami, fries and onion rings. And please don’t forget to ask for the little yellow chilies(pickled peppers), they complement the food perfectly. p. s. cash only…

This place tricked me(well, kinda sorta). Here I was on 1st Street looking for a specific taco shop when I should have been on 4th. Since I was on a tight schedule, I saw this place with its spanish-covered windows and pulled into the small parking lot that’s shared with an automotive place of some kind. Anyway, I saw the name of the place I was about to eat at and said out loud, «Holy fecal matter, Batman!» A place that’s named Tom’s Burgers probably isn’t the first place that one should go for a burrito. It didn’t matter(fecally speaking, anyway) as I had an important appointment to attend that may or may not have to do with me directing midget pornos in the L.A. area. I ordered a carne asada burrito(with beans and cheese only), in Spanish, which confused the person at the counter. After ordering, there was a good five minutes of silence in the kitchen. This silence led me to believe that they were about to serve me some pre-made carne asada. Thankfully, I finally heard the sizzle on the grill so I loosened the knot, took the noose off of my neck, stepped off of the table and sat down like a good little boy. Less than ten minutes later I had big plate of food waiting for me. In addition to the burrito, it came with rice and a salad. Even if I LIKED all of that crap, I didn’t even have the time to eat it all. I cut it open and noticed there wasn’t any cheese — no time, must press forward. Within five seconds of picking up the first half, it completely fell apart on me — no time, must press on by eating with a fork. The burrito had a case of the drips which covered both of my hands. Carne asada burrito with beans and(no) cheese only # 90 —
The taste was slightly above average. The bad thing about their carne asada was the amount of fat that was included. I had to spit out three pieces that were in no mood to be chewed. But the worst thing was the fact that I almost choked not once, not twice but THREETIMES on other fat. I had long, stringy pieces of fat hanging from my teeth(yummy visual, huh?) which dangled down my throat. After the third time I stopped eating since I value my life slightly more than a burrito. As I left, I still had little pieces of fat dangling from nearly all of my top teeth WHICHDROVEMEUPTHE F***IN’ WALL. I always give an automatic 2 stars when there’s no floss around and for attempted involuntary manslaughter.
