I love this place. I’ve lived around the corner from this grocery store for years. Their prices are dirt cheap, and the produce is pretty decent. The liquor prices are unbeatable. Incredibly friendly cashiers.

This review is entirely based on the way i got treated by ALBA a cashier at your store the shopping trip itself was pretty painless until i got to check out, the cashier ALBA was very rude i didnt get a hello or anything thats fine but she should have asked me if i wanted a bag or not she rang me up and thew all my stuff on the belt. I paid and expected her to give me my stuff in a bag, remembering that not all stores give you one bag i pulled out a quarter and asked for a bag, she rolled her eyes at me and had the audacity to plop the bag down throw my change and receipt at me and shove all my stuff further down the belt with no consideration, like here take your bag and your crap and get out of my face … she actually made me feel bad for asking and paying for a bag … the eye rolls and attitude were completely unnecessary she seriously needs to work on her customer service skills

I live close by, so this store is an inexpensive and convenient option. They also have really good – some of the best – tortilla chips. The chips are Superior brand home style ones and they are slightly greasy, a little on the thick side, and salty. In a word: perfect. The salsas they sell are good too – it’s a brand called El Campestre and the salsa Mexicana is spicy, a little chunky, and also has a lot of flavor. Those are the pros. The cons are the poor produce and long lines. I can never find good tomatoes here – the ones they carry are almost always really washed out and sad looking. You won’t get any organic or exotic produce here, although it’s a good spot to come to if you want Mexican ingredients like tomatillos, jicama, tamarind, and cheap peppers. The lines, especially if you come in the evening, are so long they will make you seriously consider leaving and going to another store. There is security, as someone else mentioned, but I wouldn’t call it «strict.» The guy stands by the door but has never asked to see or check anything of mine.

Come here because the prices are reasonable and the produce looks fresh. Cashiers aren’t always the best, today I was charged by a cashier named Alva., very ubprofessio, didn’t even smile, she threw the bags like she hated her job, and took long enough to give me NY change. I’ve been to the meat department and the bakery section and everyone is friendly. I guess it sucks I had to encounter this woman with such negative attitude.

Really wish that they provided more veg options. They don’t have vegetable broth or soyrizo which are usually easy to find at any grocery store.

Remember that terrible Super Mario Bros. movie that came out in the early-90’s, the one with John Leguizamo? Now, remember how in that movie the whole plot took place in a dark, grungy, dystopian underground world with all kinds of freaks walking around? This is that place. Let’s talk about the entrance. You can only enter this store on one side of the building. That means walking across the frying pan-hot parking lot regardless of where you park. I should also add that the parking lot is situated on a steep hill that many shopping carts are often carelessly left to drift around, many gathering speed and slamming into parked cars at the bottom. Once you pass through the prison yard security guard watching the door, you are finally in. The place looks and smells like a factory floor: a mix of dust, cleaning supplies, rubber, and farts. Gray cement floors, unpainted rafters, aluminum siding(indoors?), and a bunch of product sitting dusty in giant cardboard crates. Terrible spanish pop leaks out of the speakers like diarrhea. Fat toddlers beg for candy and end up screaming a lot when told«no.» This is the ambiance you will encounter at Superior. The food is a terrible deal. This isn’t like Food 4 Less where you can actually find some decent sales. It’s more like a Frankenstein hybrid of the worst qualities of different supermarkets. The prices of a Gelson’s, with the lines of a Costco, the décor of an Aldi, and the corn syrup and trans fat food heavy selection of a 7-Eleven. Checkout lines stretch longer than Space Mountain at Disneyland. They actually had self checkouts for a month but decided to remove them because… SUPERIOR. The 10 items or less line says«cash only» which makes me wonder what century we’re living in. Lastly, the place closes at ten o’clock. That’s right. Ten. Superior til the end.

I like the convenience of this grocery store because it’s nearby. The costs of food are cheap, but the brands they sell aren’t as great as other grocery stores. In other words, you get what you pay for. They’re really strict with security. They have someone by each entrance/exit. It’s also annoying that every cashier aisle that is closed off is blocked, so you’re literally stuck in the store unless you buy something or squish your way through people in line.

Horrible customer service. The lines are ridiculously long and they have only 3 cashiera open.

Filthy. Rude staff. I was told they don’t carry coffee filters. What kind of grocery store doesn’t carry coffee filters? Yes, the bakery is awesome and there are great deals, but not worth it to me if the store is disgustingly dirty, the staff is rude and unhelpful and they don’t carry basic supplies.

What a hidden gem! My bf lives in the neighborhood and we stopped by here to get some grubs for a potluck party. SO glad I did! No time for cooking, so I just grabbed 2 lbs of marinated flap meat at $ 4.99 a pound + a stack of tortillas($ 2 for 75!!!), salsa(there was a salsa tasting of like 9 different types on sale for $ 2 each) and some cookies = $ 15 contribution! I grilled up the meat and made my own little taco stand at the party! haha The meat was DELICIOUS and no other seasonings were required. We also picked up a roasted chicken for $ 6 and it was also great.

I grew up in Highland Park and this used to be a Lucky’s back in the day. I was in the neighborhood at a friends Christmas party the other night and we needed beer. Although Lucky’s was a landmark, I was glad to see Superior took its place. Lucky’s was really run down and didn’t carry all items. What would be normal shelf items in any other store was very expensive at Lucky’s. Anyway, this Superior is just like any other. I didn’t look at what specialty items they had, but all I know was I scored on a 12-pack of St. Pauli Girl for only $ 12.99. Can’t beat that! Friendly workers, security in the parking lot and plenty of parking!

The store did a big remodel a short while ago, and it is so much nicer now(I used to complain about how dingy the place used to be). So now the place looks good and is cleaner. and still has the great low prices. Would recommend, especially in the neighborhood. I used to go to Fresh and Easy in eagle rock more, but after its buyout I don’t like their higher prices!

There are some cool things you can find here that you wouldn’t find at a Vons or Ralph’s, such as an awesome meat selection(chorizo, marinated carne asada) and pan dulce(sweet bread). However, it was a little unorganized inside — my hunt for canned chicken broth the other week was an adventure, and took 2 staff members to find what I was looking for. Also, it sketched me out a little bit that the Cool Whip was just sitting out displayed on the floor without refrigeration. I’ve never seen it sold NOT refrigerated before, so good luck those brave enough to buy one of those mystery tubs… There is parking for the most part and high turnover for parking spots, but the lot can get a bit congested.

The deal maker of Superior is their TORTILLACHIPS. best in town. Seriously, there is a kiosk with a lady who fries them daily and bags them. They are thick restaurant style better then any other grocery store. The deal breaker of Superior, is that they tore down the original mid-century façade in replacement of a phony-baloney art & crafts façade that just makes it look like something you would see in a Ghelson’s in Palos Verdes. The original façade was that of «lucky’s store» and there was no reason to get rid of it! Boooooooo!

What a great market! First, there’s always parking. It’s clean. And, the people are always so helpful. I’ve been here several times, since we moved to the neighborhood, and the staff is always pleasant and happy to see us.

Since they remodeled it it looks great. I come here once in a while when I can’t make it to trader joes. They have a good selection of things, just wish their ice cream isle had a better selection. They have really good bolios to make some yummy sub sandwiches too:)

Clean, organized and great prices! The stock worker guy was very courteous and helpful. On the other hand, I was very annoyed that the lady that cleaned the floor could not yield to me and had to pass me. She tried to pass me again when she was helping out a customer as if I didn’t exist. In addition, the cashier #501 at the self check out was extremely rude, argumentative and ignorant. I pushed the attendant button twice for help and I had to look for her since she never came to my register. She didn’t know the code to the walnuts I was getting and she said it was my job to know the code, so I didn’t take them. Don’t expect great customer service but do expect excellent prices.

Cheap prices, which I’ve come to expect from Mexican supermarkets. I love that. And the location inside is pretty swanky; I expected less fancy digs. You could do a lot worse, and they seem to have a huge selection. Plus, I found mamey sapote there… and I’m a better man now.
