Silk Plantation

This review is long over due. I would say this place has sweet prices! They are so helpful and always consistent in their customer service. It is a little busy on the weekends, so I suggest go during the weekdays, or if Saturday, early when they first open up at 8AM. The husband & wife team is really really nice people. I’ve been buying from them since 2007, and they always show consistency in their customer service. They never make you feel small, even if you buy only a few things or bunch. Top notch pricing on silk flowers & floral decors. Ask for Elaine, super sweet lady:))
I had gone to buy real orchids the day before from a flower shop in the downtown flower market (inside the mart) and this seller/​owner of the orchid shop had an attitude issue, and made me feel it was not worth the time to drive all the way from Fountain Valley (OC) to LA to buy flowers. She ruined my day & I went home actually feeling so sad. So I left without going to buy other things I needed to decorate the orchids. But I needed decorative mesh to to finish decorating over 27 orchids I had already purchased. So I called Silk Plantation the next day.
When I called Elaine, she was like a breath of fresh air! So kind and nice, and quoted a sweet prices for 12“x 20″ Yards of mesh for only $ 3.50! I had to ask her again as these were going at around $ 12 to $ 16 for same size roll at Michaels. She confirmed that the cheaper ones were at $ 2.75 and $ 3.50 for the more fancy ones. I couldn’t believe it! So I drove down the next Saturday morning, and bought myself over 10+ rolls, to save up for other occasions.
So it is worth the drive, believe me! I saved so much $$$ buying from them verses other arts & crafts stores. Their prices are hard to beat! Thanks again to Elaine & Vincent? (her husband’s name I think:)) sorry I can’t remember for sure). Hope you find what you need here!

I came here Monday morning, right around 9:05 am. I was actually trying to get to International Silk Inc between 6^th & 7^th Street and American Craft & Floral near 3^rd Street, but both stores were not open at 9 am. I saw this place opened so I went in.
This area is near skid row, right by the Midnight Mission. Be careful when you walk around this neighborhood because it can be scary. Parking can be hard here if you come during their busy time.
The store had a lot of silk flowers. Some of them didn’t look real because of the colors, but some were decent. I think if I had time, I think if I was still in the beginning stage of my wedding planning and gave myself some more time, I could done some damage to my bank account. I did not give myself a lot of time to browse through every corner of the store the store.
I knew what I wanted before coming into the store. I was making two baskets for the two flower girls in my wedding. I knew Michael’s sold one blue hydrangea for $ 6.99 and the ribbons were about $ 3.99 without the 40% coupon. I had an idea of the prices from Michael’s, but I didn’t not know the prices compare it to other stores in the area. I am not sure if I was allow to bargain in there, but I wish I had. I think the ribbon could have been a little cheaper.
I’m assuming since it was so early, the workers in there were helpful to me by asking if I needed any help. One guy helped me find the navy ribbon.

Ok, came here again to buy some more ribbons. I love how this place has a separate room for the small items to make it easier to find the ribbon that you want. At least two of the walls in this room are for ribbons. And, if you’ve read any of my craft store reviews before, I love the double sided dutch satin ribbons and this store has a good selection of it. Not only do they have a good selection, they sell it cheaper!
They have other stuff too of course, like apothecary jars, silk butterflies pre-​strung on ribbons, various styles of hanging «crystals», etc.
Parking is a nightmare!

A great place for great prices and an abundant selection. Staff seemed to not be too knowledgable, though… Parking sucks here too, but product is thumbs up!

The parking is HORRIBLE here! They only have about 3 spots to park and if you try parking in the spots for the other shops, they will call a tow truck. Bums constantly hang out infront and across the street. Fix the parking situation and you’ll get another star.

Silk Plantation has really good prices for the quality. They place looks totally unorganized BUT the people who work there know the inventory backwards and forwards. I can’t speak to the variety as I was on a mission for deep red roses — which are pretty standard. The customer service is good. They even helped to load everything into my car! The owners remember my friend who was with me. She used them for her centerpiece flowers for her wedding about 7 months earlier. I will be returning to purchase more roses.

Legally, they are DBA Plantation Corporation but customers would be looking for the sign on the building… and that sign says Silk Plantation Corp.
While Bee Floral next door has all sorts of beautiful silk flowers representing those from all over the world, Plantation Corporation/​Silk Plantation Corp has a much smaller selection of silk flowers. However, they do carry a wall-​load of ribbons and a small room full of glass vases/​glassware.
This place was a zoo on a Saturday and a zoo in a cramped place makes me want to get out of there.
If I had to choose, I would prefer to go to Michaels-​Moskatels over this store. That store is like the Costco of craft supplies with endless possibilities and you can get items in bulk. M-​M also has silk flowers though not as much a variety as Bee Floral or this place. But comparing ribbons and glassware, you probably need rolls and rolls of the same ribbon and 20+ vases that will look the same, right?
Parking stalls are available in front of the warehouse but don’t count on them being available.
