Karen is fabulous! I’ve never had such NATURAL perfect highlights in my life and I’ve been getting highlight for almost 20 years! I got an awesome deal on Groupon for partial highlight, cut, style and was highly impressed. I would recommend to anybody and everyd body. I will also be going back. If I was staying in LA, she would be my regular hairdresser. Not only is she a great artist but a super cool chill girl to talk to :)! The salon has great vibes and awesome people too!

This salon is in a really cute area! Love the vibe. I had my hair done by Karen and she was very friendly and considerate of what I wanted done. She pays great attention to detail and wanted to make sure that I left looking beautiful — and I definitely did! I got color, trim, and style. The ends of my hair don’t take color the same way my roots do, which she noticed right away. So we did a little reapplying and everything was just right. I was amazed by how silky and gorgeous my hair looked after she was done with me. Highly recommend her. The other people who work at the salon are friendly too, nothing negative about this place. It was very relaxing to have my hair done here. Will come back again.

Had my long hair cut by Kayla today. What a great experience — -she listened to what I wanted, gave me a shampoo with a just-​right scalp massage, and expertly added some nice layers to my straight style to give it a bit of movement. Looking forward to my next appointment!

It’s awesome. I went with a groupon and Karen (my new stylist) gave me the best treatment, and my hair looks super cute. Also the rest of the people is nice, and friendly.

Karen is fabulous! I just got back to town and randomly grabbed a groupon, what an amazing surprise. Karen did my cut, color, and styling and she was fast, knowledgeable and all around lovely. I am happy with my hair, and even happier I found my new hair-​stylist

I have been going to Shag for so many years and have never been disappointed. Talin is great, she listens and gives me and my daughter the exact cut we want and makes us look so good not only on the day we get our hair cut, but long after! I cannot recommend Talin and Shag enough!

I always have a wonderful experience at Shag. Peter is a fantastic stylist and colorist. The team here is always courteous, attentive and fun. I’ve been going here for years and it doesn’t disappoint!

Connie is an artist! I first came in to correct some balayage highlights from another place, and i absolutely loved it. She gave me exactly what i wanted. Now 2 months later she wows me again, she gave me full highlights and it looks gorgeous!

Ask for Farel, he’s fantastic — great sense of style and attention to detail. And he’s really easy to talk to… the time in the chair always flies by. My wife and I both love him.
I’m terms of the salon itself, I’ve had my hair cut quite a few places in Silverlake, but this is by far my favorite. The atmosphere is low key, yet youthful and hip and the design is shabby chic at its best.

I love this place! Never disappointed always greeted by friendly faces & My stylist Connie always does an amazing job always polite & knows exactly what she’s doing, not like some stylists I’ve been to in the past. My hair is very wavy & difficult & she’s finds a way to always bring the best out of it. She took 4 inches off & brought my color up a bit. It’s just the pick up I needed for the summer time. Thanks Connie & thanks Shag for having great stylists.

I’ve been here a handful of times now and tried a few stylists. They’re all great, but Julie is awesome! She did a great job with my hair and I felt very relaxed hanging out with her while I was in the chair. I highly recommend her!

Vanessa is a Brazilian Blowout genius! I would have never thought to get a Brazilian Blowout on my own because I have pretty nice hair as it is, however, it gets frizzy & a bit unmanageable at times & my hairstylist who is a color Queen recommended it & I am as happy as can be now that I’ve done it. Not only do I have great color but now I have even more beautiful soft, healthy, and manageable hair– if I do say so myself. I hope it lasts forever. I’m a walking build board for Shag because I’m constantly getting stopped and asked where I get my hair done, & send everyone right over to Vanessa. Shag is lucky to have a stylist as versatile & talented as Vanessa, because I don’t let just anyone touch my hair. Thanks Vanessa & Shag for keeping your doors open. :-)

Love the place, service, attentiveness, ease, and most of all, my girl Tara who knows how to handle my hair right. I have semi-​course, wavy and unruly hair, but she knows just how to cut, color, and style it up! She is stylish, intuitive, friendly, creative, and knowledgable which makes her service impeccable! Go see her!

Tara is my favorite there! I’ve been following her for years!!! Where ever she is, that’s where I’m going to get my hair done! She can handle a diverse clientele. For example, I have mixed kinky curly hair and she does me right, which is rare for a white girl to be able to handle. She is a funky, intuitive hair stylist and I definitely recommend checking her out!

I don’t understand why my hair came out so bad with all these great reviews. So upsetting. Needed a great new cut and color with a trip I’m taking, and here I am with a bad cut, not great color and my hair looks dried out and washed out. Very uneven. Straw like.(and I got a 60 or more dollars gloss!) Looked better before I came in. Wearing hats and ponytails till it grows out, and has ruined my looking good on this vacation. What the hell happened? Depressing.

Talin was great. She’s about as big as a hiccup but worked quick and efficient. However I never felt rushed. Hair looks amazing :)
The place is hipster, but look at where it is. For those complaining about the vibe, if you want a resort feeling, stop looking in silverlake and drive your happy ass down to beverly hills. Super nice and talented staff.

I came to Shag Hair Design for a bridesmaid updo for my brother’s wedding. Vanessa was my stylist and she did the most amazing beautiful sexy up-​do for me. I wasn’t really sure what i wanted at first but i let her know that I did want it loose and elegant. She gave me the perfect updo which lasted throughout the whole day/​night. Most updos Ive had before were very uncomfortable or too tight or bobby pins poking me but not this one! I will definitely be back for more updos, even maybe for my future wedding one day! Check her out on Facebook, «Styles by Vanessa Marie» that’s where I saw all of her gorgeous bridal hair style designs. She was also very affordable and quick, the up-​do only took her about 30mins to complete.

I highly recommend Peter. Not only is he very talented with lots of experience, but he is very conscientious… he listens. Peter really knows what he is doing. He makes sure to give you what you want. It is very important to him that his client gets exactly what they envision. Sometimes stylists will go nuts with their own vision bc they think they know best. You don’t have to worry about this with Peter. He will also ask questions to verify that he understands your requests. Bringing a few pictures always help too. He also keeps track of every process he does for you and keeps it on file to reference it for future appointments.
I started seeing Peter about 2.5 years ago. My hair was bleached out and fried. He nursed it back to health in 1 year. He helped it look presentable along the way, and now it looks great! I get complements on my color all the time. And best of all, I look younger with healthier and longer hair.
One time, I asked for brighter highlights than usual, and as an afterthought, I decided I wanted to have more roots. I called the day after my appointment to ask for the change, I wanted the roots more muted… and he squeezed me in the next day!!! He spent a few hours fixing it so it was exactly how I wanted. He labored over it for a long time and only charged me for materials. One time he had some leftover extensions at the studio (in my color) and he made a lil asymmetrical swoop in the front of my hair, it was so badass.
The other stylists are friendly too. Peter always has a assistant as well bc many new young hair stylists are eager to learn from him. It’s cool to listen to him teach his techniques to his assistant while he is doing your hair. If hair is the question, Peter is the answer.

I came in about 2 weeks ago for a trim with Vanessa. She was friendly and efficient. I was shocked when she told me she was finished and I loved the outcome!!!
I went back today for a Brazilian Blowout and once again WOW! I love it! The procedure was easy and I love the results.
The whole team was super friendly and included me in conversations which put me at ease. I dislike when people have conversations as if you are invisible but they were friendly and put me at ease.
I would for sure recommend this shop to others and I will be back in 3 months to update my Brazilian Blowout!
