It’s CLOSED! d Not sure when it closed but we were going for lunch and when I called the number was disconnected and directory assistance offers to send you to other similar businesses. Too bad. I liked the Indonesian Gado Gado salad. Wonder if it will reappear somewhere else.

It’s now closed. I went by last weekend, and well, there is no longer a Newsroom Café. Sad really. I hope a new place with as many vegetarian options and a full bar opens in WeHo again!

While the service was generally slow and mostly indifferent, I’m sad to see this place go. We just moved to the neighborhood and were looking forward to going there, as we eat healthy and they had a lot of good choices for the eating plans we are on. Jack and Jill Too is not a reasonable alternative. CLOSEDCLOSEDCLOSED. BUMMEDBUMMEDBUMMED.

Newsroom Café has finally closed for business. Opened in 1992 by Chef Eddie J. and sold to the current owners in 2006 who never felt the need to replace the hands-on Chef Operator. It’s truly amazing they were able to keep the doors open for the last eight years.

Newsroom is a pretty good spot. We live south of here a bit, but it’s located on a neat part of Robertson. I usually order the tomale con huevo for breakfast or early lunch… A poached egg over a tomale. Is come out great one time, and the tomale a little tough another. Tasty nonetheless. The real story here is their mint green tea. I could drink that $&!% all day. So darn good. I love sitting out in the patio in view of the street to watch the passersby and their designer dogs. Once saw a couple paparazzi having a full blown argument in the street nearby. I like entertainment with my meal. MINTGREENTEA. Get it.

Had the newsroom scramble(came with toast and potatoes) and a couple of mimosas. The food was average and service was slow, even though we got there right when it opened and there were hardly any other diners. Will probably be back but only because it’s the only place open early and close to work.

I do have to make the absurd comparison between the Newsroom Café and the Ivy for this review. On one particular stretch of Robertson Boulevard in Beverly Hills, there are two restaurants across the street from each other. One is the Newsroom Café, it has good food, and quite a lot of vegetarian and Vegan dishes, and great coffe and shakes. The other is The Ivy, a celebrity beehive that sees a constant stream of high end cars pull up and discharge folks who pay through the nose to be seen eating in public, actually you have to be seated in the patio ‚(this way the paps can photograph you from across the street) andon top of that very average food. Let’s get back to the news room, if you want to see Celebs, you’ll find them here too but in a more casual and not pretensious setting.

This place has a cool laid back vibe. It was the first place we went to after arriving in Los Angeles. We both noticed Mexican vegan dishes which looked good. We had fish tacos and seafood quesadilla. My gf also got a watermelon margarita which was amazing. Would definitely go back. Good unpretentious restaurants in Beverly Hills are definitely finds.

I want to still love this place, but I’m taking Newsroom out of my restaurant rotation. Food can be hit or miss, and while I do have a couple of items I really like, the menu just doesn’t have enough great dishes. Service is always below average despite the fact that it is NEVER crowded, especially for dinner. The other night, our waitress brought out four glasses of wine to our table. Each glass was a different shape and size, which is fine, except the amount of wine inside each glass differed greatly. When I commented that I had received nearly half the wine that the gal across from me received, she just replied, «girl, it’s been a DAY,» and walked away. How does that affect the amount of wine she poured me? I had a DAY, too, and needed a full pour. There are better spots in town that will actually value your business.

I pop in here occasionally for a cup of coffee and something to nosh on between meetings. They have OK coffee(not a very large cup) and I like their blueberry almond muffin, which is full of ripe blueberries and has a nice crunchy top. I’ve never been in the«sit down» section… have just used their takeout counter, but everyone has been friendly and service is relatively quick. You could do worse for a cup of joe and a decent muffin. A little pricey though — bit more than you’ll pay at Starbucks.

If your hungry and you don’t want to wait for the Ivy, this place is probably your best bet. Its really health conscious which goes against what I think a newsroom would sell(quick food like bagels, coffee, pastries. etc). I ordered the avocado bacon chicken burger. It was about $ 13 which seemed a little overpriced. The burger was ok. A piece of lettuce was wilted. I got some chips on the side which were tasty. My friend got a salad and the stub of the lettuce was in her salad. They have a huge variety of juices to choose from. We opted on not ordering any and just drank coffee. Service was ok. Its a nice place to sit and people watch on the patio. They also validate here which is helpful.

This place is pretty horrible. I’ve been a few times and the food isn’t fresh, they have too many choices on the menu(always a red flag) and the place always looks and smells dirty. Avoid the restroom, it smells like a truck stop. Unfortunately, I was looking for a quick bite while shopping and figured I’d just try some scrambled eggs with salsa. My friend ordered an omelette. Pretty standard. How could they possibly mess that up? They brought my friend her omelette with hair on it and they brought me a dish that wasn’t even close to what I ordered(a tamale instead of the eggs and salsa dish). After we sent both back, they came back and offered us a 15% discount. Yes, 15%. They should have offered to pick up the entire bill. Will never be coming back here. Ever.

Okay I read all these not so nice reviews and went anyway. I live close and the location is wonderful. Glad to say the food was darn good and super healthy. The grilled artichokes are amazing as was my entrée a grilled veggie and cous cous middle eastern thing. Everyone that goes here needs to remember it’s a super healthy food place. No heavy fats or over salting. Its wonderful for vegetarians, vegans and special diet people. Patio was perfectly sunny and breezy. Waitress both pretty and efficient. Lots of celebs walking by to shop Robertson and amusing wanna bees in full regalia. No it’s not trendy or a pickup bar scene but this food makes you feel good. Give em a chance everybody. It’s just not high tech food.

I had the Its Alive! salad tonight, which is like the third time I’ve had it. it was so disappointing. The leaves were incredibly old and dry. Instead of sunflower sprouts they gave me bean sprouts. It was generally inedible as far as salads go. The one redeeming factor was their wheat-free essence bread — they don’t make it though, they buy it — which is sprouted rye kernels and filtered water(i called to ask because it’s that amazing). two chunks of it come in the It’s Alive! salad and it’s utterly delicious. The texture is almost like angel food cake. Also, i ordered with a bunch of people from and our order took over two hours to arrive — they say 45 – 60 minutes. Yeah we were a big group… but still. Very disappointing to be at that level of hunger and then get the aforementioned salad. The acai berry smoothie, however, is still off the chain.

I’ve had a lot of lunches at newsroom. Some are better than others, but you know why this is a 4 star review? Because they actually CARE if one of your meals isn’t up to par with what you expected. I recently went here again for lunch and decided to eat whatever the hell I wanted instead of my usual steamed veg lean protein healthy type meals. I got a glass of wine and a ribeye(mid rare) with potatoes and vegetables. The steak was like shoe leather. Truly awful. BUT the server saw me cut it and try it and immediately saw that it wasn’t good and MADE me let him switch it for something else. I had some vegan drumettes and they were fantastic. I also usually like the soups here. They also discount 15% for Cedars employees.

I see why some people love it and why some people don’t. The dishes on the menu sound very healthy. Everything is organic, and everything is done by a healthy way. Yes, the juice is delicious, I had the pineapple one, really good, and reasonable price. Well, overall the price is reasonable. But then, my order of omelette was a nightmare. It was just soooooo bland. No taste at all. I guess that’s what most people complain about. Yes, it is healthy, at least it looks like. But it sacrifices too much about the taste. It is kinda like my cooking level: no oil, no salt. I think if someone lives nearby, they will pay a visit here when they want a healthy breakfast, but I don’t think I will come back for food that I can make by myself at home.

In keeping with their name, I spotted a rack full of magazines for purchase in the indoor section of the café. Our party was quickly seated in the outdoor section we preferred. Browsing the extensive menu, I was impressed by the selection offered. I ordered one of the off-menu specials: a salmon sandwich, tomato soup and a small caesar salad. I have to say I was expecting more. Although the salmon was cooked nicely and the soup seemed to be freshly made, I did not find the food very tasty. The caesar salad was unimpressive. On the upside, the service here was nice and efficient.

Oh boy, can this place get busy. I don’t always say that there’s a reason for everything, but there’s a reason that so many people flock here every day. With vegan options, drinks that are $ 4(yes, you heard me correctly) during happy hour, very tasty coffee, and what I thought truly was the«Best in LA» artichoke, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be here! The watermelon margarita is, indeed, very good, as are the guava options. The real star is the Bohemian Martini, though – how can you go wrong with grapefruit and St. Germain? Obvious genius. Those two words can pretty much describe everything about this place. If you’re solo you can grab a magazine and waste the morning here on your own – if you’re in a group, you can happily drink away the afternoon at no great cost to your wallet.

What’s not to love? Fresh fruit and veggie juices, vegan friendly menu, and located in a very LA neighborhood complete with paparazzi. Don’t mind the photogs. They’re starring at Britney Spears across the street at the Ivy. But if you think that Newsroom is full of LA pretentiousness, think again. This place is pretty down to earth. Service is friendly and really helpful when it comes to asking them my overwhelming number of «is this vegan?» questions. I’ve had my share of mixed opinions about the food here: The Ultimate Maui Veggie Burger without the bun is vegan. But I found it to be mediocre and unmemorable. The veggie soup it came with, I did not like at all. But the Wild Mushroom Ravioli does not contain cheese or cream or butter etc. and it is super super delicious! Tossed in a red sauce, I was craving this for days! Also, take advantage of the juice bar! Tuscan Touch is a mix of carrot, Italian parsley, and pear. It is the most amazing thing I’ve ever sipped from a straw! I would go back just for the juice bar alone but I might as well get the ravioli while I’m there: D
