Everything I’m in L.A. I make it a point to come here. This is diffently my my favorite bakery in Chinatown. Beside their varieties of baked goods they also have really good shrimp dumplings, shumai, rice porridge, and egg rolls. Expect a line, but worth the wait.

First time I had Long’s Family Pastry(HUGE Steamed Chicken Bun for like 30¢) was back in 1982, and throughout the years… then decades… to most recently a couple of months ago. Every now and then this is my beck and call for specialty Buns and Dim Sum. Great selection of cakes, buns, over-sized dim sum varieties and it won’t break your wallet. The place has a nostalgic feel to it and hasn’t changed much throughout the period, except for the prices of course.

Pork buns! So cheap! The variety here is astonishing, I’m always tempted to go in and ask for some of everything. They could do a better job of filling their pastries, but that’s really the only bad critique I could come up with this place. Friendly attendants, they take cards(which is still not the norm in Chinatown) and everything is clearly always super fresh. What’s not to like?!

I love coming here when I need to get fresh, inexpensive pastries for the office. It’s an old school space for the community, where the OGs chat and drink cheap coffee all day. I love their pink boxes and the machine that exists just to tie perfectly taught strings around them. The sweet pastries are nicely balanced and not too sweet. I always get a sticky rice for myself– the fresh lotus leaf wrapper is so fragrant and the filling is savory, gooey and yum. With all the changes happening downtown, I hope places like this never go away!

They open really early, i.e. 7am, that’s why I chose this place as I have a flight to catch that morning. I wanted to be critical with the food(the cheongfun/ricecake is really thick and bland, not much variety). But I really glad that I went there. The food is really cheap. The siu mai is larger than usual and it’s honestly pretty decent. Other than the cheongfun, the rest of the food is worth a try. I even packed an egg tart, a meat bun and bo lo bun to eat it in the plane.

Place is ok. Half the stuff we got was good, other half was really bad or dry. The cream and pineapple sponge cake was yummmy. But the pineapple turnover was bad… no taste or sweetness and was dry. Cream pastry was salty and tasted like butter. Ehhhh.

I love this place. The Chinese tamales are to die for and the chicken bao is well worth the drive from the OC. Prices are very reasonable. Life is worth living eating delicious food like those made here.

My boyfriend and I went to this bakery last Sunday for lunch. It was packed with customers but the line moved on quite fast, like 5 minutes. We bought a variety of dimsum and baked goods. My favorites are pork siu mai and the chicken bun. The siu mai is as big as a baby’s fist and savory with flavor. The chinese chicken bun tastes awesome as well. The flour is sweet and soft as it melts in my mouth. We also bought a few ha kao, egg tarts, egg rolls, and sweet rice with chicken but they are just mediocre. So I don’t really recommend getting those. This place deserved a 5 stars not only because the food is extremely cheap but also of good customer service. I accidentally gave the cashier a twenty dollar instead of one dollar. Unexpectedly, she ran after us and returned me the bill. This is not something we encountered very often in life, especially in an area like China Town(based on my 6 year experience visiting this town, not trying to be offensive). Last but not least, we’ll definitely come back to this place!

We make the trek to this take-out dim sum place periodically and it’s well worth the drive. They have a good selection and the prices are very good.

Had high expectations for the bbq pork buns since their black bean hopias and sesame seed balls have always been consistently good. The bbq pork buns were bland. The bao(bread) was yeasty and soft but the filling should have had more flavor. Bbq pork is supposed to be really tasty but this wasn’t. They look good, probably even perfect. It’s all good until you hit the filling. I’ll stick with their hopias, sesame seeds balls, and other sweeter options.

I think the owner is posing as a Unilocal user named«YumYum» — I recently received a message, where this user harassed me, defended the shop’s «C» grade by saying most food trucks have«D» grades and said that next time I shouldn’t eat their food and write a review. I checked this user’s most recent reviews and they were all for some kind of bakery where the review starts out with«OMG I love this place!» This individual apparently owns/manages several different bakeries. Wish granted, «YumYum»! I will not be coming back to this establishment and am warning the Unilocal community with this post :) Good riddance!

The BBQ Pork buns are a real delight here. Everything else is a hit or miss depending on the day and time you come in. Sometimes they’re cold or taste different. But the BBQ pork bun has always been consistent, at least for me. Prices are hard to beat here so feel free to try some stuff and hope that you’ve come at a good time!

I always come back and try a lot of their goodies on my cheat day. Today, I decided to write a review to express how satisfied I was on this trip. The line wasn’t too long because the sales girls attending the counter were snappy, organized and converses English very well. I sat for a moment and ate while gazing through the entire area including their kitchen. It has improved a lot from the way it used to be. Clean and neat including those people working in the kitchen. The sitting area is still crowded but couldn’t see clutter of paper or liquid spills. I asked one personnel if they were on a new management but said«no». So I guess it is a good business move and I definitely recommend this place to everyone. Hope they keep it up.

Possibly the best pineapple bun, pork bun, coconut bun, egg tart in the US and for so cheap! Tried Chinese bakeries in Bay Area, San Francisco Chinatown, NYC Chinatown, DC… this one is my fave! As for service, regular Asian style… quick and gets the job done. Dont expect coddling. ;)

Dropped by late to pick up some moon cake. ‘Course they ran out of the popular red bean and black bean. Ended up with the Taro moon cake. The gal behind the counter told us not to get the Coconut moon cake, too sweet she said. Already guessed it was not selling well by the still full tray in the display. Picked up a few more items such as sesame ball, custard tarts, baked bun and spring rolls. Warmed it up for a few seconds helped make it tastier than cold out of the box.

I like this place cause the quality of the food and cheap price is a go-to place if you have to feed a big group for a semi heavy or lite lunch. They have the pastries but I usually go for their dim sum items and steamed bun. So cheap but great quality. OK, the bakery/restaurant isn’t the cleanest(some would say it’s a huge-understatement) but the food wins out. Located on Spring street and located just across CBS restaurant(another fave of mine).

Long’s Family Pastry is located in Chinatown, a block up from the famous Philippe’s French dipped sandwiches. My 4-star rating is based on the only thing I get from here, the Char Siu Bao(bbq pork baked buns). Compared to other Chinese bakeries I’ve went to, Long’s bao’s are larger and filled with more bbq pork than the others. It’s very tasty! Tip is to buy a few and freeze them. They reheat well in the microwave, perfect for a snack anytime!

Currently they have a B rating. More often than not they have a C. Their fried dumplings tend to be a bit greasy and heavy. I will admit their dumplings and pastries are larger here than the surrounding dim sum stores. If you don’t go early in the morning parking can be hard to find on the weekdays, especially during lunch. Saturday mornings are pretty slow and you can look over the selection longer. They have good pork shu mai and will give you a fork, hot sauce, and soy sauce to go with them. I have tried most of their items over the past 6 years and the quality doesn’t change much. It’s good in a pinch, and you can get a lot of food for a decent price.

Don’t let the environment fool you. Their pastries are delicious!!! I had a great experience every time I visit. The employees were very nice and helpful. If you visit, I would recommend getting the chicken bun and egg tarts. They both are fresh and tasty. This place is a must try!

4 ¼ stars. I’ve been a customer for years and really appreciate this place since the prices skyrocketed and or shrunken in size. Unfortunately, I don’t get to Chinatown often but since I was in route heading home from Santa Monica — so it was perfect timing. I purchased $ 17.00 worth of har gow, shu mai and various other precious goodies that were just delish. I couldn’t wait to get home and inhaled a few pieces in my car. This place makes some of the best zongzi(Chinese tamale) around and they are filled inside of the sticky rice with nuts, aged egg, sausage, and pork. Happy to see some great things haven’t changed — I’ll be returning.

Dalena: That single ham sui gok that I got was squishy, so I’m not going to order those anymore. It was a sad oblong shape. The shumai were the same as any other dim sum place. I would’ve gotten har gow too, but Elijah ordered before me and the stuff that he got made me lose my appetite. Your turn. Elijah: Okay, I’m not your average dim sum goer(which my girl despises) because I’m not a seafood person. It’s a cool experience though so if I do go, I end up pulling the one to three items from the carts that are seafood-free. This spot is a bakery that sells dim sum food, so it’s a walk up and order place instead of the cart format. I got two bbq pork buns, a hotdog roll, and an order of egg rolls(3). Everything tasted okay. Nothing bad, nothing particularly good. The bbq pork buns were the best out of the bunch. And everything was pretty cheap. That can be a plus. Mine and Dalena’s food, combined, was less than seven dollars. So as a cheap bakery, wouldn’t hurt to load up on some buns, or any other item for that matter, and surprise a group of friends or your office with that pink box that means good things are about to happen. The business itself was pleasant. Definitely has that neighborhood bakery feel, with the patrons and the staff. But there definitely is better dim sum out there.

This place is right across from CBS, which is my go-to dim sum place. I went there for the egg tart. It was 70 or 75 cents. It tasted okay. Wasn’t the best egg tart I had.

Just yesterday(04.27.15 at 3 pm) I went to Lucky Deli at 706 Broadway to get baked BBQ pork buns. The lady behind the counter immediately helped a Chinese Lady that was standing behind me. So I let her know what she did was prejudice and that I would take my business elsewhere. So this is how and why I found Long’s. Unlike Lucky Deli, Long’s Family Pastry is clean. And the employees here are very friendly, whether they’re English speaking or not. They are very polite. Lots of choices to chose from. And Long’s is clean, very clean. I have found a new place to purchase baked BBQ pork buns.

I always like coming here to get my steamed chicken bao and Napoleon fix. The steamed baos here are fluffy and moist. They have a lot of filling inside and we always get two boxes every time — each box holds 5 baos. Get the chicken ones, they’re the best. We also get the sesame seed balls, Hom sok gok(minced meat with fried she’ll outering) and some slices of rice cake. I love the Napoleon — puffy pastry filled with cream, assorted nuts — yum!!! Been eating that since I was a kid. They didn’t have anymore today and so no pic :( Granted it’s a «C» based grade — but it’s always hella packed and as long as they make my Napoleons, I’ll always be a returning customer :)

Zero ambiance, scary place but the place in Chinatown for Cha Shu Bao. The place needs a update, everything is old, but they have an «A» and the bakery items are the best and Inexpensive. Bao, either steamed or baked are .80 cents… Shu mai or had gow? .39 cents each. If you have a gathering and need some cheap good eats? This is the place. The Asian Portos, except without the glitz and glamour of Portos… Not for everyone, but if there is any Asian food need, cheap. this is the place.

This place was great! A ton of varieties of dim sum and bakery items. We ordered like 6 different things and it still was under $ 10!(my kind of meal!) Everything was super tasty. No clue why the health rating isn’t high, but whatever. I didn’t get sick. I survived and you will too. We even ate in-store! I think it’s actually a B-rating now… but I can’t say for sure. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking. We got the egg custard, the chinese tamale, baked pork bun, and sesame ball. All were super good and I would definitely recommend every single one! If you like cheap, fast, delicious food, this is it.

Feel bad for doing this but here it goes… First off they’ve got a ‘C’ health score. If you go to either or and enter their street address, the business pops up(LONG’S FAMILYPASTRIESINC) along with all their health code violations. Red Highlighted Violations Denote High Risk — their high risk violation being: HOLDINGOFPHF — OUT of compliance for improper holding when food is found within the specified temperature range of 50°F — 130°F or Liquid pasteurized eggs on cook’s line held in the range of 50°F — 130°F exceeding 2 hour preparation time. And Food contact surfaces: not clean and sanitized. Hello Food Born Illness! Their highly acclaimed Egg Tarts tasted heavily of eggs, gross, tart shell wasn’t flaky but mushy, the flaky pork cake was insanely dry, and coconut cream bun consisted of super dense filling, not cream, but flavor-wise this item tasted better than the rest. I could no longer rely on those of you who sent compliments stating I should eat here.

Unilocal 2014 Challenge #56/100 $ 3 zong zi? $.70 egg tart? $.30 sponge cake? Count me in! This is strictly for take out, because the restaurant has a «C» grade on the window. They have very cheap priced foods(and probably other dim sum that I don’t even know of). Too bad I didn’t go in– my mother did. Otherwise I would have gotten other foods. It is difficult to find parking here, as you have metered street parking and one small lot(it’s LA– what do you expect?) It’s harder to find and I guess you really have to have recommendations to go here, but once you get here, bring cash. You will enjoy the delicacies that are here: D
