Fun time was had by all! Art walk + exhibits + old bank vault theatre + home-grown talents of the Latino Theatre Company = Gold. A big group of us enjoyed watching the LTC’s $ 5 best-of compilation of juicy moments from their latest plays. My favorites among the LTC’s sketches dug into funny, topical LA moments, like a hip vegan downtown dweller naively sampling a bacon wrapped hot dog, and a wacky bicyclist who crashes into Carmageddon. They had something for everyone.(I didn’t get their karate slapstick skit but it made my companions shake with laughter). Serious subjects too like Juarez and Diane Arbus got filtered through the LTC’s absurdist lens to create an emotionally intriguing mix-tape sort of evening. I liked the actors’ joy in what they did. It felt raw, unpretentious. They broke the fourth wall to get our posse — who stuck out from the rest of the crowd in our decidedly square oxfords and cardigans — involved in the whole mix.(One of us even got tossed a hostess cupcake and some milk during the Tijuana barmaids sketch.) I want to see these guys working their comedy muscles again! Maybe next Art Walk.
