Perhaps i am spoiled living in the bay area with great vietnamese food, but this could have been the worst vietnamese sandwich i have ever eaten. The good news is that most of the vietnamese sandwiches i have eaten in the bay area are very good, but the bad news is that this is still the worst vietnamese sandwich i have ever eaten. I ordered the chicken, but they only had pork. Strike 1. The pork was half red, half not red, and looked nothing like a grilled pork, nor a bbq pork… so i’m still not sure what kind of pork was in that sandwich. or if it was pork at all. Strike 2. Lastly, the portion of the sandwich was considerably smaller for the price than most of the other vietnamese sandwiches i have had. Strike 3. In the end, it was a filler between lunch and dinner that just didn’t fill anything… especially the expectation of even a half decent vietnamese sandwich. Happy Eating!

I really like the baguette. Its not hard on the outside. It has the right amount of hardness on the outside and its soft and warm on the inside. I had the chicken sandwich. It was the perfect size. I also tried the milk tea boba. I have had better. I don’t know why, but the boba was warm when I got the drink. Warm boba tastes very strange. Most of the customers there are buying lottery tickets and scratches. They all look very suspicious and ready to swipe your wallet. My boba and sandwich came out to $ 4.25. Not bad.

There are precious few places to get a cheap, good and filling lunch. LA Sandwich is one of the few. Shoved into one of the myriad shopping centers of LA’s Chinatown, you’d wonder how they manage to stay in business. I suspect, though, that lottery ticket mongering is one of the ways. That’s beside the point, however. There are only 6 sandwich offerings on the board and about thrice as many fruit and boba drinks. I had the #1 sandwich($ 2.25) – the house special – and not only are the meats good but the bread is especially crisp and warm. The kind of «crisp» that leaves tons of crumbs on the wrapper. The way a banh mi ought to be, for certain. I also managed to have a milk tea with boba – $ 2.50 for a large. It was a little sugary and the boba were a little too soft for my taste but it definitely wasn’t terrible. It’s not the best banh mi and it’s not the best boba. But for a meal under $ 5 you’d be crazy to expect that of LA Sandwich.

this is a solid banh mi. good baguette, light and crispy. high quality(at least for a $ 2.25 sandwich) luncheon meats in the #1 sandwich. good ratio of veg to meats. cucumber. i can’t wait to go back to try another one and some of their juices/boba.
