This new space is spectacular! It is huge and there is a parking lot in the back. I recently saw the Mark Ryden exhibit and it was the perfect set up for it. You can see my review of that here:

So although I feel that a more thorough review for an art gallery should probably come from a buyer or artist who has had to directly deal with gallery staff, I’m going to write a review anyways as a visitor who has stopped by twice now to view two different shows. I have not attended an art opening here, but instead have come during the day, in the middle of the week, which is when you’ll probably find no more than a handful of other people there. The first thing to know is that the entrance is in the back, not off Highland. This is also where you’ll find their parking lot. The space itself is grand — high ceilings, sky lights, lots of open space. It really has the quality of a mini museum. The staff welcome you at the front door, which is appreciated. And, unlike a lot of galleries I’ve been in around LA, they have clearly labeled, clean bathrooms. And fyi, they tend to show more paintings than say installations or video projects. As a result, I find the work usually shown here to be more approachable with little head scratching necessary. Stop by if you get the chance, this gallery won’t disappoint!

This high end gallery seemed like a bit of an enigma whenit opened near me. The inside is a standard open and well it space giving way for artists to showcase their work. I attended the Mark Ryden, The Gay 90s West show which was up from May 3 — June 28, 2014. It was an enjoyable experience. Not too crowded and not too many pretentious people mulling about. If you love art and/or are a collector, you have to make sure you check his spot out. Parking: they have a lot and there’s tons of free street parking.

Great new art gallery in LA. For the Kohn Gallery’s first show in their newly renovated space, I was lucky enough to catch the opening show by Mark Ryden«The Gay 90s West.» The gallery was very easy to find because of their huge glass display seen driving on Highland Ave. The show room entrance in actually in the rear but there was plenty of parking spots in the surrounding streets and alleyways. I’ve never been to there previous location but this gallery space had plenty of wall space for paintings and cement floor for sculptures. Now about the actually art show, I was blown away by Ryden’s paintings and objects. If you’re unfamiliar with his work he’s considered the god-father of pop surrealism. The show portrayed Abraham Lincoln, young pop females, and Jesus in a way only Ryden can envision. My favorite«attraction» of the show was the free coin-operated diorama. It was a great interactive piece full of mechanical objects. Next to the diorama was an unusual listening station playing multiple interpretations of that olde time song«Daisy Bicycle Built for Two.» Can’t wait for the next show here at Kohn Gallery expect another Unilocal check in.

We had a fantastic time at the Kohn Gallery. The first room is huge and then there are two smaller rooms. The space itself was bright and airy. It was not hard to find at all. There is a small parking lot in the back but it’s small. Parking is the only reason I’m docking a star. It’s small and when we came on a Friday afternoon, it was packed with cars still trying to get in and getting jammed. We were lucky and as I entered, three cars were leaving. But the lot is so small, I had to reverse out of the lot into the street to let them out. As I was parking the rest filled up with a line of cars looking for parking. The back street that it is on is cramped and filled so we were lucky, but I can see it being a hassle and just that thought gives me a headache. We came here for the Mark Ryden, The Gay 90s West Exhibit, and it was wonderful. You see the different sketches and planned layouts for some of the paintings and its brilliant to see the time and effort and thought process that was involved. Now the Rydens gallery stops running after June 28th, 2014 but I look forward to seeing what is next and will definitely stop by. maybe earlier in the day or more midweek when parking is better. Oh, and the gallery is FREE!!! Yippie!!!

Oh my gosh this place was absolutely amazeballs! I came here for the Mark Ryden exhibition and it was just fabulous! You walk in the whole room just opens up into this huge area of viewing wonderful spectacular art. The ceiling are like a billion feet high(not literally of course I have no idea how high they really are but they are nice and high) so it’s just light and airy and roomy feeling the perfect setting for an art show in my opinion anyways. Right when you walk in there is a small little room straight ahead of you and that’s where they have a video playing that incorporates a song off Mark Ryden’s sound track along with art it’s visually stunning and odd and awesome kinda eerie all at the same time. On a side note the restrooms are also in this little room as well. Then to right is where all the art action is as you walk through the different rooms and areas each room has a different type of feel and experience that is hard to put into words you have to experience for yourself but it is fantastic! My husband and I had a great time. Also the staff are really friendly and knowledge there are books of his work for sale they are pricey but if your really like Mark Ryden then that’s not going stop you at least it didn’t stop me! ;)

We visited the Kohn Gallery last week on a road trip from SF to LA. I just wanted to mention a few things because we had a couple snags getting there. 1. First of all, Google maps still sends you to the old location even though it displays the new Highland Ave address. This isn’t really a big deal because the locations are only a few miles apart, but in LA traffic and if you’re in a little bit of a hurry it can be frustrating. 2. Additionally, we parked a few blocks away because we weren’t sure if there would be parking, but there is a small parking lot. If you’re just going during a weekday to check it out, you shouldn’t have any problem parking there. 3. Lastly, the entrance is not on Highland Ave, it’s in back on Citrus.

A new 12,000 square foot space of decadent art. Moved from Los Angeles to Hollywood with 22 foot high ceilings. Their first exhibition is with pop-surrealist Mark Ryden. He is pretty amazing. Titled the«Gay 90s». Looks like he will run until June 28, 2014 :)
