It takes a certains Dawg to open a hot dog place in koreatown. Especially with others making comments about the overly stupid joke of koreans and dog. Ignore it, this place is a solid cheap food place in koreatown, and I hope it becomes a staple Recently, there have been a lot of new restaurants opening up in KoreaTown. Typically on the cheaper side theres been a lot of variety. This place may look«empty» but there are quite a few to go orders being made(makes sense considering the low availability of parking in Korea Town) So first off, King Dog is currently running a promotion of a hot dog combo for about 7.99. A giant hot dog, fries and drinks for this price is actually quite a steal. I’m not quite sure if you can interchange fries/tots/sweet potato for the side, but the french fries they provided are big thick cut potatoes. The fries on their own lack a little something, maybe some seasoning? But dunk those into the aioli provided and you’re set. that aioli is delicious. So here we go. We got the galbi dog and Kogi dog. Menu description wise, they’re basically the same. Unfortunately I am unable to determine my korean cuts of meat, but both of the hot dogs were great. Heres the thing though, like other reviews have posted, its the hot dog that makes the dog, its the topping and the bread. If they switched to a bratwurst style, i might die of happiness. For now though, the normal dog is fine, but when combined with grilled onions melted cheese peppers and a hawaiian bun, you got a winning combo. I’m gonna try the burgers next time, and if they do the same thing they did with a hot dog with a beef patty, we have a new local spot to visit. This place is a solid cheap eats. Its clean, decently quick, and most of all filling. Give it a shot, and make sure to down that thing when its piping hot. Parking tip: They have parking at Banchan, but that lot was really filled when i passed by. Theres a HK market across the street. Go in, get some groceries, maybe some instant ramen, then walk over to king dog. Spur that economy AND get free parking.

Solid hotdog spot for quick casual dining. Love the creativity and sweet Hawaiian rolls! AND even though it was a heart attack waiting to happy, I didn’t have any stomach issues after. But I think I need to chew more because my tummy felt like it was on overdrive trying to digest everything. The Kogi Hotdog is great, but the kogi meat was a bit chewy which is why I’m giving this place 3 stars. The sauces were great. Fries are meh. I’ll probably come back when I crave another high calorie meal. But I’ll try the other hotdogs that have bacon in it.

GREATPLACE! Had driven by it for a while until I decided to stop by. Although I’ve never seen people. anyone really, eating inside, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a tasty meal. We tried the Mona Lisa dog and the Hawaiian burger, both were really good and the ingredients were fresh. I went with a football player who can EAT, his burger filled him up. I didn’t think I’ve ever see that haha. I was really disappointed in the«For Lease» sign outside… I hope it’s not what I think it is. I would love to see this place thrive! Bottom line, great place, affordable, awesome food! Hidden gem in Koreatown :)

This«gaegogi» hot dog hole in the wall had potential when I first discovered it one freezing March evening staggering out of the pub next door. The menu is written on the wall. I pointed at what I wanted both times and the cashier said they where out of that item. The third and last time I walked into this place they finally had the item that I had been painstakingly craving for so long and it turned out to be an overrated dog not worth the $ 7 I handed over. While I consumed my overrated meal I along with several other paying customers could overhear a supervisor treating a subordinate like crap. That got me really incensed and I verbally made it be known to the supervisor that there are different more professional methods of bringing something to the attention to a subordinate. The supervisor apologized for the incident and probably proceeded to berate the subordinate in the back room away from patrons. Anyway, before this place became a Hot Dog themed restaurant it was a Pet Shop. If you look for this place on Google Maps you will see what I mean. The Pet Shop was closed down due to animal cruelty. Seeing as this is Koreatown… and the prior tenant was a Pet Shop that was charged with cruelty animal and unsanitary conditions… that is adjacent to a Korean BBQ joint… I can’t help but envision Fido being sauteed in green onions and red chili pepper powder. The ghosts of poorly treated animals past still haunts this place. Never again.

okay I sincerely think this place has promise. If they made one very important change it could easily be another two stars. Pros: Hawaiian buns fun toppings great combos reasonable prices smaller options for tiny tummies parking on the side Cons: poor meat quality CP and I tried the Korean dog, the breakfast dog and the western dog. All three were good. The breakfast one was the best(I think). But the biggest most glaring issue was the hot dog was so bad. It’s almost maskable surrounded by the delicious toppings and the Hawaiian bun. But when you get any bite that is just hot dog it’s this weird mushy meat without pop or flavor. It’s not good. Hot dogs are not exactly a high quality ingredient so if you’re going to charge people for it you have to go for the best on the market and this is definitely not that. If I’m craving a hot dog there are plenty of fun places with good toppings that offer a better quality meat. And they even have Hawaiian buns. King Hot Dog, please get better dogs!

What the what is this?! A big, fat juicy hot dog with more meat on top?! My carnivorous self was so satisfied that I would drive a million miles for this place. Very unique hot dogs, based on korean type/style of meat– kogi & kalbi, wrapped up in hawaiian sweet rolls. Prices are about 4 – 6 bucks each and you can choose if you want the smaller or the larger dog. The location is in a bad spot, where parking is nearly impossible and where you might get shot, but hey, you might not… and you’ll get to enjoy the tasteful weiners!

The hot dogs and burgers here are loaded with toppings. They’re very rich and filling. Also, the pickled peppers at the condiments stations seem to have been soaking far too long in their tubs. I like hot-spicey peppers but oh my dear God I couldn’t taste anything afterward for two hours. The cheese fries cheese seems to be American. Nothing special. The sweet potato fries were overly greasy. The combos are priced exactly the same as the individual components purchased separately as of the date of this posting. I might come back once every few months for the burgers/hot dogs, but no more than that.

you come to koreatown for korean bbq, perhaps for karaōke too. who knew you can come to koreatown for hot dog?!? dang, it’s so delicious(i tried mona lisa – fried onions, guac, diced tomatoes, feta, bacon, «special sauce», come on, tasted like thousand island, yo) and generous all for around 6 bucks! this place totally reminds me of dog haus in pasadena, don’t care who came up with what first, i will definitely be back soon to try other hot dogs. p. s. they give you a plastic glove(same gloves you see in the kitchen) b/c the dog is overflowed with toppings. no thanks i said, plastic fork & knife worked just fine for me. hey! stop rolling your eyes.

It’s meat on top of meat, how can you go wrong?! I tried the Kalbi dog. Pretty good. Super messy dog-be prepared. It was like one of those Carl’s Jr commercials with the drips. Seriously out of control. ‘It’s not good if it doesn’t get all over the place.‘ This place has only been there a month. They have parking in the lot next door, free wifi. It’s super clean. Service was good. Nice people, pretty fast. Will have to try more things. I think I might skip the dog next time, though and just get a kalbi sandwich. You know, a girl’s gotta watch her figure. ;) –K

This place was a lot better than I was expecting. I was hunting for a good hot dog one day, and happened to find King Hot Dog, so I figured I’d give it a shot. The location isn’t anything special. Yet. It’s still relatively new. They were deciding where to hang photos on the wall when we were there, haha. But give it time. I ordered the Chili Cheese Dog and Garlic Fries. The cashier asked if I needed gloves — sure, why not. When the food came, sure enough, it included a pair of disposable plastic gloves. I’m guessing it was because the chili dog was covered in chili… but that’s the way I was expecting it. I can definitely say ill be back.

I’ve had King Dog bookmark in my places to try since it open its doors and today was finally the day! I ordered the Koreatown dog. The hotdog itself tasted a bit like a hot link it had that spicy kick and came with bacon lots of grilled mushrooms, grilled onion and red pepper on a Hawaiian roll. It was too big for me to finish so for $ 5.99 its a great deal. My son order the Galbi dog, hot dog top with galbi? Yes please! I think this is my favorite galbi fusion since Galbi tacos came out. He order the fries with his dog good size fresh tasty fries. The establishment is nice and clean. The crew working there are very friendly. Overall a good experience. I will come back to try the another of their yummy hot dog creations.

Came here and tried the galbi dog and their burger. They both come with hawaiian bread as buns… the wiener itself was tasty but here’s the problem… the hawaiian bread does not hold up the wiener that well as the bun gets soggy in an instant. so what are you left with?! the wiener in your hands… if i wanted a wiener in my hands i just go to the bathroom… i know the whole hawaiian bread used as a bun is their specialty but they need to have other choices.

I don’t really write too many reviews but I just had to say something after my trip to King Hot Dog tonight. Like one other reviewer mentioned… this is a total rip off of the Dog Haus in Pasadena. Anyone who knows me knows that I love me some hot dogs so I was hoping that King Hot Dog would be a great addition to my list but not sure how you can you like something when it’s a COMPLETE copycat of something else! It’s pretty sad when people can’t come up with their own ideas and have to steal someone else’s…down to the color scheme. Nice try guys but you’re no where near as good as the original. Needless to say, i will not be coming back.

I’m an event planner and the bride and I looked at some dresses this past Saturday across the street from this place. We were starving and decided to stop here. The hot dogs and the burgers were so goooood! They havea special sauce that I even put on my fries! Staff was very friendly and cooks had great personalities. Definitely will not be my last time here! Place was clean including the restrooms. Everyone of all ages will enjoy it.

Had the Kogi dog with garlic fries and it was awesome. I wanted to try the Galbi dog but they were out of galbi which sucks but the Kogi dog did not disappoint. Warning, if you are not a big eater, just order the dog itself and not get the fries. OMG, I was full with just the dog and could only scarf down maybe 10% of the fries. They give you a lot of fries, but it does need more seasoning and wasn’t much garlic taste to it which I love. I think they should roast the garlic and make it to a garlic paste than just fry the garlic which would taste so much better. About the dog, man, they gave a good amount meat that it fully covered the dog which I am not complaining about. The meat was flavorful and had some good crispiness from how they cook it which was yummy. I also ask for bacon on it which I couldn’t taste as there was just so much meat. Next time, don’t really need to order any extra toppings on it, its just not needed. The cashier who was an older Korean lady was also nice and courteous when I ask for more seasoning and garlic on the fries after I took the order and re-toss the fries for me again. Everyone should try this place since it was so good.

Passed by this place couple times and finally tonight I had the chance to test it out for the first time. Its pretty noticeable seeing how its on a major street(Western Ave). After viewing the menu the item that caught my attention was the Korea Town Dog, This thing is loaded with the works. And along with that you get a plastic glove to use pretty neat =D. Its help so that you won’t get you hand that messy. Will certainly head back for more rounds. Seeing how Kalbi Burger is not in Korea Town any more this may be the place to go to now. O yeah they do fusion dogs(korean style): galbi, kogi, & kimchi

Ok, so I just finished my first King Hot Dog hot dog and it definitely won’t be my last. DELICIOUSLYGOOD! I live couple blocks away from this joint and saw its progression from construction to grand opening. Before it even opened, King Hot Dog was a place I really wanted to try because 1) hot dogs are bomb, 2) the place had a sign that was very inviting/appealing, and 3) I’m all for small businesses. On the menu are a variety of hot dogs and burgers, each with its own unique twists. There were kimchi dogs, bulgogi dogs, hawaiian burger, etc. I decided to try the galbi dog. The bun had a sweet sourdough/cinnamon taste to it which I like. The hot dog itself was pretty good along with the galbi. Add some grilled onions on top and some special sauce to finish it off. I don’t know if they put drugs or some kind of special MSG on it, but damn was it boooooooomb. It was big enough to fill me up, but not to satisfy me. When I eat, I effing EAT. Price was around $ 6.50, which isn’t too bad… I guess. One thing that kinda was whack was that the joint didn’t accept debit card. I asked why and the cashier, who was an old lady that was SUPER friendly, told me that they would be accepting it soon. Luckily, I had cash. I think credit cards are okay(I saw someone use it). Just be sure you have some cash on you when come to eat here. With proper management, upkeep, service, and marketing, King Hot Dog has all the potential to become an LA favorite. I’m without a doubt sold and will be a regular here. Ooooh, and this joint has two giant T.Vs.

Simply the crispy onion topping they put on their dogs merits them a 5 star rating! It’s that amazing! I have never had a topping quite like the crispy onion topping. It’s pretty creative and well executed! Not oily at all! King Hot Dog has recently opened its doors. I have been keeping my eye on it for a while now and hoped and hoped it would be as delicious as it turned out to be today! I had the Mona Lisa dog. The secret sauce they put on it was OK. The dog itself is pretty big. They add arugula to it! Can you believe that? Nice! The dog also includes feta cheese. Sadly, they did not put enough on mine to make a difference in taste. Wow! There’s also bacon on it. I had them take out the avocado and tomato. The dog is tasty and filling. It’s $ 5.75 which is a bit expensive but worth it since it’s filling. So filling I could not finish my regular size garlic fries $ 2.20. The portion of fries they serve is pretty good! The garlic fries are OK. The fries themselves are pretty big and still have the skin on them which is great. Some of them were a little bit too soggy though. They should drain them better. As for the garlic flavor, well, it’s too subtle. Kind of disappointing. I washed it all down with a bottle of Smart Water $ 1.49. King Hot Dog has free wifi! They have two large flat screens and the place looks sleek for a hot dog joint. The lady at the register is really nice and has a big warm smile. I will definitely be back! They do not have a parking lot so you will have to park on the street. It’s not impossible but you may have to walk a little. I’m lucky that this place is in my neighborhood though so all I have to do is take a short walk here!
