So I stopped by on March 23 to get more yummy stuff… the store looked empty and the lady there said that they are closed, and will be closing for 1 month. I’m really really hoping that they will indeed re-open and soon, like by the end of this month! I seem to be the black plague when it comes to restaurants/establishments I like, because for some unknown reason, every time I fall in love with a place, they inevitably close…

The food here is so delicious! :) The food made here is really healthy for you and I love it how they dont use MSG. They sell very yummy korean side dishes and korean food. I also to-go the korean side dishes such as spicy octopus, marinated garlic stem, very tasty anchovies, and many more. They also have daily specials every day and my favorite is the braised beef stew… so delicious! Come try this place out and you won’t be disappointed! :)

Okay, I like Korean Food. I lived in K-Town a few years ago, and still go there often. It’s a great part of town sans the gentrification, but anyways. This spot has to be the best Korean food I have ever had in my life. Not that I’ve had so much Korean food, but some really good bbq and soups and noodles. But this instantly felt like I was eating food from someone’s grandma. I understand the language of «grandma food» that is universal, food cooked with technical skill and love honed over years. I don’t have to be Korean, or Guatemalan or whatever, I can taste grandma in any food, even if It’s not my cup of tea. The shop was empty and just these two unassuming women cooking. I asked if something was beef(I don’t eat beef or pork) and this can make eating Korean food, tricky. She smiled and shook her head and I realized there would be a language barrier. So I just pointed to the egg and rice since the chicken plate was too large. I was pretty hungry but thought some egg and rice would suffice until I get home for dinner. They kept smiling and saying Korean food, so I knew what it was about. I’m just like yes. My meal cost my $ 3 very simple with some kimchee on the side. I was surprised it was $ 3 I know it’s just rice and egg but everywhere seems to charge you $ 5 for anything these days. It looks like they charge for time/labor/ingredients which I think is fair and can appreciate. Then one of the women serving my food yelled out«Korean soup!» So I asked her how much and she just shook her head no. I figured this place was brand new, I had never seen it before and figured it must have opened some time this year. So I thought how sweet of her I can taste some soup too! Then when I sat down they came out with some cold noodles! I was embarrassed at this point because I only spent $ 3 and I have this meal I can’t finish. It full on felt like I was at a friend’s grandma’s house and they were like«eat this!» «eat this!» Everything was soon good. The rice was the perfect texture and, the egg was amazing. The seaweed soup I saw had beef in it, but even though I don’t eat beef I HAD to have the broth and seaweed at least. How could I go to these women, even language barrier aside, and say I’m sorry I don’t eat beef. I was full on in don’t be rude to your friend’s grandma, you can eat some this time! mode. And it was amazingly good seaweed soup. Seaweed and broth was divine. I usually pass on cold noodles but these were wonderful. Slightly sweet but light flavor so nice. I just got on instagram to help a friend with a project, not because I was interested. But a pic of their food was my first instagram pic. When I was done they asked if it was good with a thumbs up, i gave them two. And they started saying«Internet!» I said«Yea of course! Unilocal,Internet you got it.» I showed them that I took a picture and one woman showed my phone to the other. They were happy about that. I asked for a lid to take the rest home for a snack later. They packed me up with another portion of soup! Definitely embarrassed I said I would share it with my friend. They then said«Come every day!» LOL if that was their plan it worked! So that’s what they were plotting with all that love, well they got me. I don’t live in the area any more, but when I’m in the area and hungry, which happens on some consistent basis, I will go there and bring friends.

I know that I can’t be the only one at Korean restaurants to stuff her face silly with banchan before the arrival of the main entrée. Rather than admit that I’m a banchan glutton, I’ve convinced myself(and my friends while at it) that I’m simply appreciative of the good stuff. Thankfully, with the arrival of The Foodshop, I can be reassured that I’m not the only one(phew!) – like misery, banchan gluttons love company. From my review thus far, it would seem as if The Foodshop solely serves as a banchan bar, but that could not be more false – in fact, I’d go as far as to say that they specialize in home cooking. Korean home cooking, that is. The mains offered seem to change daily. When I visited, they didn’t have the galbi jjim. Rather, they were serving a seafood stew, bulgogi, and chicken teriyaki. Prices are extremely reasonable($ 6.99-$ 7.99, I believe), and the food is served by the three most adorable Korean grandmas, and I mean that in the most endearing way. With that being said, however, you should know that there is a huge language barrier. Before purchasing any portion of banchan, I highly suggest sampling. I ended up committing to every one I sampled(what else is new?), but it never hurts to know what you’re getting yourself into. From my rather extensive sampling experience, I’ve concluded that the absolutely adorable grandmas don’t really understand much English. «Taste» seemed to be the most effective word to secure a sample, and«yes», to secure a box of the stuff. The prices of the banchan ranged immensely, from about 2 bucks a pop to over 10. I’d assume that the price of the input(ingredients, time, and labor) had a large part to do in the price difference, and yes, it was totally necessary to state the obvious there. If you’re not totally ready to commit to a rather generous bowl of banchan, I’d suggest the sampler. If you’re anything like me, however, the portions in the sampler are far from enough – especially when it comes to my favorites(the lotus root, soy braised radishes, and the seasoned pickled radishes). I would throw out more suggestions, but in complete and total honesty, you can’t go wrong here. Everything is made from love and scratch, which is never a bad way to go. If the length of this review isn’t an accurate reflection of my excitement and obsession, I don’t know what is. Come with your appetite and your google translate app, and I can guarantee that you’ll be leaving with enough goodies to even satisfy the most gluttonous of Korean food gluttons!

I’m lazy and I don’t like to cook, but I want food that tastes home made for a reasonable price. Foodshop really fits the bill for me. The menu is always changing, so I don’t get bored of the same stuff, the food tastes like legit korean food my mom would make(if she could cook well), and the price is super reasonable.

Taste just like how mom would cook it. Other korean restaurants styles have become very commercial and very Americanized. This restaurant taste very authentic. The owner culinary skills are by far at a high level than most korean chefs in Koreatown. Market banchans are made cheaper and not always ripped to the perfect flavor. My go to Spot for some home cooked style cooking. The owner is the sweetest lady ever. Reminds me of the owner at dooma noodles. Will be back soon!

Today, I drove by The Bun Shop and I discovered a brand new banchan(Korean side dishes) spot in K-town. It is a really cute little shop where you can take-out or dine-in. The interior of the place is very sleek and modern. They change their menu daily on the chalkboard, so everything is FRESH And stays nomnom! Even through they change their menu daily, The Food Shop still have a large selection of Korean banchan! Endless happiness! I opted to buy mul-kimchi, kimchi, galbi jjim, and fish egg! When I was driving home, the galbi jjim smell was hitting the spot. Soon as I got home, I opened the galbi jjim and ate it all, lol I wish I brought more… I tried the other side dishes and they were all yummy. It truly reminded me of the Korean food in Korea! I usually cook Korean food at home, but now I have an excuse to take out instead. Thank you Food Shop for your banchan. Now, I can retire my second job of being a chef at home.

It’s such a neat concept — you can get as little or as much of various banchans, as well as soups and main entrees. We had the sample platter where you can choose up to 6 banchans and it comes with soup and rice. We also had one of their daily specials. All were very tasty, very authentic. Whenever I feel like some quick and homecooked Korean food, I know where to go!

This place is awesome! They offer extreamly high quality korean food with reasonable price.(actually it’s too cheap considering the quality of their foods.) Never use msg or any other harmful ingredients. Definitely my No.1 place in Koreatown. If you are looking for TRUE taste of Korean food, I would highly recommend this place! Plus a girl who worked there was cute.
