I’m going to be honest: I had to pass by this place several times before one day I conjured up enough balls to actually go up an old stairway to an upper level room filled with pictures of strangers who’ve had their manes styled by Kami over the last 40 years. Seriously, the first time I didn’t know if I would leave with one arm or not — the atmosphere can be a bit, umm, awkward at first. So in you go and you’re met by an older gentleman who calls himself Kami. A native of Iran, he has been cutting hair for a good 40 years. This man knows Westwood and I’m not kidding. He will tell you stories that will keep you entertained for the duration of your cut. On his wall you will notice several hundred faces — folks he’s cut over a number of years. Scanning this wall, you can’t help but notice the fact that he’s cut the hair of folks like former UCLA chancellors Albert Carnesale, Los Angeles FBI Director David Bowdich, UCLA Police Chief James Herren and UCLA chancellor Gene Block. When this guy tells you he knows FBI agents he’s not kidding. He really does. Among the conversation and people watching from the 2nd story window while he’s working your mane, you notice that Fox News is always on. He is quick to let you know that he doesn’t really like Donald Trump but hates Hillary Clinton even more. When all is said and done, hand him $ 20 and you’re free to go. One thing that he does that I find a bit odd is that he wears kitchen gloves when washing your hair. I guess so his hands don’t go dry? I’ve just never seen that before. Oh, and don’t forget — at Kamis request and your acceptance, you too, will end up on the infamous wall at Kami’s her salon!

I wanted a quick trim on my lunch hour. I found this place and it was very close and walking distance from where I work, so I took a chance. Kami was very friendly and knew exactly what I wanted. I admired all the pictures he had. It was very interesting to see everything. He even told Me an adorable joke. He was awesome! I’d come here again for my trim. Thanks Kami!

When I called to make an appointment, the man who answered was very rude and acted like I was annoying him, I wanted to tell him never mind right then, but I didn’t and the haircut was okay

I’ve tried almost every place in Westwood, and I couldn’t pass up a chance to try Kami since he got great reviews on Unilocal. I scheduled an appointment and arrived 15 minutes early. He didn’t have anyone there, so he just took me. He asked what I wanted, and I told him: short on the sides, slightly longer up top so I could style it. As you look around, immediately your eyes are bombarded with small pictures of tons of people whose hair he cut. He pointed out UCLA Chancellor Gene Block, who apparently comes here regularly. He then said that Block is nice, but«too liberal.» FOX News was playing on the television, a pigeon was snacking on the windowsill overlooking the camera store, and sports memorabilia aplenty adorned the walls. Kami then inundated me a series of jokes and puns, which I absorbed with great tenacity. They were the cringe-worthy puns. You know. But I mean, it was pleasant talking to him. He tried to make conversation, and I tried to ask interesting questions. It was like a blind date, but not date-like, and not blind, and… Okay, terrible analogy. He kind of pushed some political ideals into the conversation, and regardless of whatever we believe in life, it probably would be best to have a haircut without that. But of course, I’m not saying he’ll do that with you. I shouldn’t have asked what was going on in the TV. Afterward, he took me to a back room filled with way more sports memorabilia and washed my hair, which was nice. What surprised me was the price of the haircut… It was over $ 20 when all was said and done. I don’t know why this place is listed as only one dollar sign on Unilocal.Compared to other places, it should be $$. The slightly larger than normal price, decent haircut, and strange conversation at times gives this place a three-star rating. Which makes me feel bad, because Kami seems like a pretty hard-working guy.

Great first haircut. Walked in based on Unilocal reviews. I can’t believe I’ve been in Westwood for 4 years without going to Kami. Very professional haircut. On par with $ 80 b hills salons. Funny guy. I’ll be back for sure

We love Kami! He cuts my high school age son’s hair and does a super great job. After one visit, it’s like he’s a member of the family. The shop is fantastic with photos papering the wall and Kami is a funny, smiling, exuberant man who lights up your day. My son wont go anywhere else now.

I’m not from around the area so I decided to try this place based on the positive Unilocal reviews, and I was not disappointed! Kami was a very personable guy that listened to my hair requests and concerns. I wasn’t sure how to cut my hair but had a general idea of how I wanted to style it. He offered me his feedback and the execution and end product exceeded my expectations. The venue itself is relaxing and cozy, not a typical barbershop or salon. If I’m ever back in the area and need a haircut, I would definitely pay Kami another visit.

Haircut was decent, but pricey for what is was at a student rate of $ 20. Had to endure 30 minutes of Fox News and Kami talking about why Obama sucks. I came for a haircut, not unsolicited regurgitated political talking points. There’s a salon or barbershop every 30 feet in this neighborhood, so I probably won’t be back. Got the back of my shirt soaked washing my hair after the cut. Seems like a good guy who’s very much into the community, but 30 mins of politics that I didn’t want to hear or talk about and a few uncomfortable comments about Muslims(him not knowing I am one, obviously) sunk it for me.

Went here today based on Unilocal reviews and was not disappointed! I arrived early expecting to wait, and he was ready to go! I got a great hair cut and wash for just a few bucks more than one of the shoddy chain stores. The shop is very neat, with tons of pictures and memorabilia, and a back room with plants and a skylight. TV was on, he was very friendly to talk to, and told me a few jokes to boot! Definitely will go back.

I’ve been going to Kami for 34 years and I’ve never had a bad haircut. He’s always in a good mood with plenty of jokes and stories. And, he’s ALWAYS on time. If your appointment is at 2:30, he’ll be ready for you by 2:25. He’s now been cutting my wife’s hair for the past 10 years or so, and she continues to marvel at how she pays less today(and receives a better cut) than she used to pay 20 years ago at other salons.

Kami is one awesome dude. Thanks to Barbie C. for referring him. He gave my mane a lot of attention for a very decent price. My now mess-of-a-mop reminded me that I am long overdue for another cut. Oh yeah, and he cuts everyone’s hair, so stop by if you wanna catch up on your UCLA coach/chancellor/LAPD gossip. :D

As John Wooden is the«Wizard of Westwood» for UCLA basketball, Kami may be his equal for hairstyling in this part of town. Upon your visit to his 2nd floor salon, you will see his historical imprint on the multitude of UCLA faculty, staff, students and sports figures that seek his precision cuts. And whether it’s the inside information from his clients at the Federal Building, the Westwood Village gossip, or updates from the Lakers organization, Kami’s engaging personality will keep you entertained throughout your 30 minute journey. Oh and don’t forget his quickie neck massage during your shampoo!

On the walls is a collage of faces, hair styles, smiles, all the people who visit Kami, a gregarious man from another generation who tells jokes and loves America. He’ll ask where you are from, then point to a picture, a professor, a coach, a person whose hair he cut. And you can watch peer into the world of the Westwood Village from his second floor window where people rush to the ATM or avoid the homeless. Kami will wash your hair. He’ll style it. From up here, Kami asks you to smile, holds a mirror to the back of your head and asks, «How does it look?» Then off you go, back into that funny little place feeling like something special happened. Maybe more than haircut? I don’t know. Find out for yourself.

My absolute go-to hair guy! I’ve been his client for 3 years now and Kami is by far one of the friendliest and pleasant people to be around and he can make your hair look more gorgeous than you imagined! Incredibly reasonably priced, too. Basically, he does the hair for half of the UCLA student body. As you walk in, you’ll see the wall absolutely plastered with pictures of people whose hair he has cut in the past. And I’m talking about, the chancellor of UCLA, the head basketball coach, half of the basketball team, half of the dance team(has anyone ever seen how flippin’ amazing their hair is? yeah, that’s all Kami), and so on and so forth. He takes a picture when he’s done and next time you come in — voila! — there you are on his wall. It’s absolutely impossible to leave this place without a huge smile on your face! I am absolutely amazed that I’m the first reviewer considering his client base. Definitely check him out — one of the best parts about Westwood for sure!
