LAWD, havith mercy! Ivar is not the place to be. The first time I went, was about two years ago and I thought it was cool except for the fact a fight broke out on the side of the club by the second bar. Maybe six months or so later, a boxer threw a party there and a friend invited me to go. I thought maybe that fight was an isolated incident. WRONG. Another one broke out by the first bar. It was ridiculous. I’ll never set foot in this club again. The crowd it attracts is just…

This review is for the event called Deep. Valet parking directly in front $ 15. Or you can go down any street and get valet parking for $ 10. The line was not long when I arrived. This was a quarter before 11pm. They didn’t search me, no hassles, no BS. I was totally expecting the worst when I found out this party was in Hollywood. Once you pass the entrance you arrive at the ‘Deep Lounge’. Jeremey Sole, Garth, etc. The music was good and there was a bar. It was at one point. Up the stairs of death you arrive in the hot house. All those dancing feet made the temperature rise. A large bar fully stocked with tasty beverages if you start to feel a bit parched. I was happy to see that there was a section of the dance floor on the side reserved for the DCP(dance circle people). How nice to have them off the main dance floor and placed in a play pen. Every party should have this. Up more stairs is another lounge. A smaller bar and a few couches and tables. There is where I declared my dancing space. Most folk stayed downstairs in the middle of the chaos as where I like to go unnoticed. Plus there was a fan in full effect upstairs. It barely did much but the breeze was entertaining. Beer was $ 6. All of them… I don’t remember the price of the cocktails but I’m sure they were over priced, and yes, they were weak as heck. I learned vodka shots becomes dangerous at 1:58am. Last call should be banned. She was walking sideways and was heated down to the core. The place was packed beyond capacity. This is what happens when you pull in good talent. A few local dj’s and one hot ass house gangsta from SA. Black Coffee was the reason for the season. Hot hot hot! He turned the place out. I left after 3am and folks were still going strong. I wanted to stay until the lights turned on but damn… I needed food. * unedited version:

Due to the Lameness in Cabana Club the past several weeks, I went ahead and signed me and my cousin up for other guests lists which included, Ivar, Beso, Cabana, Highlands, and whatever else we could find on-line. Ivar was one of our choices and I did not get a confirmation that our names were accepted. We came here because our usual club CABANA on Ivar was once again looking like a disappointment judging from the line of people(people looked like dorks). Where are my usual group of people? What is going on?! So since IVAR was on Ivar, we decide to see what was going on. The line of people was mostly Spanish, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Black folks. NOASIANS, so we were bought! Nothing against Asians as we were Asians ourselves, but if we wanted to party with that type of crowd we would’ve went to V20 in Long Beach! We got in line, we parked around the block for like $ 10 and walked ourselves over. It was a pretty interesting walk. Got in line and there was a private party, the promo girl said even though there was just two of us, we’d have to pay $ 25 to get in! We told her we were on the House list and she said that it was still $ 25. She was probably trying to make some money off of us. We got to the cashier and they DIDNOTACCEPTVISAMASTERCARDS, Cash ONLY!!! We told her it was our first time and that we were«VIRGINS» to their club, so she let us in for free! WOOHOO! The outside patio has a bar, and a DJ who was playing Techno/Electronica Music. The bouncer was not letting anyone in the club yet and it was 10:30. WEIRD. So we just stayed in the outside area and smoked and went to the bar. Drink were expensive and they did not have a wide selection of drinks. NOCHAMBORD. Yeah I like to switch it up sometimes. Finally the bouncer let people in, only to see that it was a 2nd floor to the actually main floor. This area had a bar, a bathroom that was co-sex(nasty too!),.looks like this is the bottle service area. And still the bouncer didn’t let anyone down to the main floor till 11ish. Drinks again were expensive! When we were finally able to go down, the music was good. I was pretty drunk by then, i think it was the whole bottle of Crown we drank on the way to Hollywood. We migrated a few times to the outside bar. The go-go dancers were dancing to the techno music, NOBOOTYATALL! HAHAHA Pretty funny. We were friendly to one of the bartenders there who so happened to work at a bar in long Beach previously. He hooked us up a few times. We continued dancing, there were photographers and video cameras taping girls dancing(damn i hope no one recognizes me) hahaha. I felt like puking later, so we ran to the bathroom, no toilet paper! DAMN gross bathroom, so then the puking begins. Our bartender hooked me up with a water bottle, woo hoo. Danced again. After a while we decided to leave and go to VICE. It was a FUNTASTICNIGHT!

Jamaican Gold is more like JAMAICANPLATINUM! hahaha I think the people who’ve made reviews for Jamaican Gold are just unfamiliar with Reggae culture and are looking for more of the HOLLYWOOD scene. That isn’t a criticism. merely the other side of a biased opinion: D. If you knew anything about the Reggae clubs in LA Jamaican Gold is probably the most upscale and diverse. I’ve been to after hours where women don’t have on their shoes and are wearing tank tops and shorts with no air on a HOTHOT summer night and the drinks were being sold through a small hole in the wall. Where you would crticize their skankiness I would praise them for their confidence. Where you would fault them for their aromas I would praise them for ability to disregard everyone else and ENJOY the music and JUSTDANCE. That’s the problem with people who come to reggae clubs and don’t enjoy Roots or Dancehall –for the exception of two or three songs played by the mainstreem– They come with the Hollywood scene and focus solely on image unable to fathom that maybe these peoples clothes are a reflection of their culture. They wear their high heels with their toes hanging out trying not to break sweat hoping their makeup doesn’t melt off. Jamaican Gold is about the music, the vibe, the people you meet, and the conversations you can be enlightened with if you don’t brush them off with the assumption they’re trying to get in your pants — I know this, because I too made this mistake when i first started going there. It’s about POSITIVEVIBES and I believe Jamaican Gold successfully does this. If you don’t radiate this but some other type of judgement or lack of of interest for reggae, then Jamaican Gold is DEFINITELY not your place to be.

Was just there on a friday and night and it was insane. Sexy ladies everywhere, and looking to have a good time. I like thats its a mature crowd with no underages sneaking in. Bottle prices are good. Great hookup spot.

Went here Saturday 1÷16÷09. This place is gonna be my new fav spot! We arrived at 10:30 and the line was about 60 people deep, but moving pretty quickly. If you arrive before 11, they allow you to hang in the outside patio area. It has a bar &DJ. Long white cutains hanging to add to the dramatics of still being outside. At 11, they open the doors and let you inside the real club. It is two stories with a balcony that looks down below to the dance floor. There are large ottomans for bottle service and a few extras for people that didn’t order bottle svc. Nice for the ladies after 3 hours of being in heels. The crowd by the end of the night is about 75% black, with an equal distribution of latinos and whites making up the other 25%. Earlier in the night, it is more racially equal. The music was the best I had heard in a long time! Hip hop and they kept the dance floor packed ALL night. The place gets super crowded after 12. Unfortunately, it also gets really really hot! Managment should invest in some major ceiling fans with those poles that hang them low or something. That dance floor ends up being quite the sweat fest. Everyone was dressed really nice. Ladies: short party dresses. Men: sneakers were allowed. Solid A-, would have been higher if the venilation was better! Celeb sighting: Rashard Lewis of the Orlando Magic

Ivar/Jamaica Gold …this is one of the worst excuses for reggae/dancehall I’ve seen. The songs they choose to play are from 1980 – 2000. Which I love, but it’s pretty much the same set every week. I think the atmosphere there is sort of dead beat despite the pretty bartenders and floor staff. Every one standing around seems more intent on getting drunk and looking for who they’re going to go home with or looking elite, not about the music.
